Ordo Te'skotah's Armor

Yeah I was gonna ask if you ran it under a planishing hammer or english wheel. That answers that. Good work, polishing usually takes long than the shaping. Thats a lot of work. Your sheath sounds like a good plan.

Fresh from my workshop...

This one is 100% from scratch. I used scrap high-carbon steel from the handguard of the cutlass I made the "Mandalorian Short Sword" from for the blade, I worked it slowly and carefully so it wouldn't lose it's temper. The bolster is carved aluminum, copper retaining rivet, antler handle, with an amethyst set in the tip of the pommel. This is my first attempt at both a Knife from scratch, as well as detail carving in antler. This one will be my "utility knife", likely in a boot rig.

This piece was rather complex to pull off. I got it cut, assembled, hammered out, and applied the black base coat. Unfortunately, my digicam is still dead, so I didn't get progress pics. I had to take this pic with my webcam, so please forgive it's poor quality:

Bocus is doing a metal set on the Mercs board, and I have to say that all the sweet looking metal sets here and there are about to make me convert!

Your doing a very impressive job.

Lots of update stuff today. 8)

Mandalorian Boot Knife Sheath:
(By the way, the Knife will now shave)
I also constructed this from scratch. Leather, Copper nail and washer rivets, sewn with waxed twine. The Coat of Arms is carved from a slice of antler, and the skull beads are from Tibet, hand-carved from bone. The back of the sheath has a dual rig system that will allow it to either be worn on a belt or strapped to a boot. The Coat of Arms is my registered SCA Coat of Arms, sans the colors. The colors on the real coat of arms are "Argent, a Maltese Cross Sable within a Border Purpure", or "White field, black maltese cross, purple border".

I also hammered out the left Shinplate, unfortunately, I didn't snap any progress pics of it. I'll get progress pics of the right one. Here it is smoothed out, with the basecoat applied:

I changed some of the contours for comfort and safety reasons, flaring the edges outward much like medieval greaves often were. I also used the same riveted construction as I did with the codpiece, both for continuity and durability.

I finished the codpiece, continuing the color scheme and weathering patterns:

And no armor is complete without a set of "cat scratches". I finished weathering the shoulder bells:

Next up, I'll be working on the right shin, weathering of both, and I'm thinking of making the thighs out of leather with a metal strip or two to match my plan for my vambraces. Also, someone brought me a piece of 3/8 inch plywood, which I'll be making a small round shield out of later on today.

well, the helm will be the heaviest piece... and I may try and make a lighter one for trooping, I'm not sure yet. But the rest of the armor's not that heavy compared to my old all-steel SCA armor, so I'll be in good shape. I also started lining the plates with closed-cell foam. I'll be able to take quite a beating in my armor when it's finished. :cheers

As JK3 said above, its looks SWEET :cheers Do you have any round about estimate of how heavy all of it will be?

Not a clue on the final weight yet... but I know it will be lighter than what I fought in before, so it's all good 8)

Found a black leather vest in my closet that I had forgot about... Since it was a western cut vest, I had to trim it down a bit and add to it. All leather. I sewed up the front, cut the sides open along the seams, and trimmed the little V's off the bottom of the front, rounding it out a bit:

Then I cut shoulder flaps and a front panel out of leather and sewed them on, also hemming the rest of the vest. The front panel is so that there will be one continuous texture under the plates:

Went around the edges, trimming the uneven spots and dual-stitching the added pieces for durability. Here's a test fitting of the chest armor on the vest:

182.jpg

I added underlap flaps to the sides (the flaps are attached on the sides of the front, and the back of the vest will overlap the flaps.) They'll be held in place with both velcro and buckles. Plate test fitting #2:

I know the V neck isn't proper. The collar plates will be attached to my gorget, which will cover the V neck, while allowing the neck to remain large enough for me to slip the vest on. The plates will attach to the vest with copper nail rivets, which I'll paint and weather to match the rest of the armor.

Got the Chest pieces attached to the vest. Still have to paint the rivets:

I also still have to get velcro for the sides, attach the bottom side buckles, shoulder bells, etc.

Finally got new batteries for my real digicam. I know the picture collage is large, but I configured it lengthwise so as not to mess up the width of the page:

I picked up some velcro for the sides, finished sewing up the edges, modified the shape of the shoulders, and finished attaching the chest/belly plates. The shoulder bells and collar aren't permanantly attached yet, but they're taped on to give a rough "finished" look. The collar will actually be on a gorget that will overlap that area:
