officialy started my custom
Everything is very preliminary at this point, but I would still love to hear your opinions. (good or bad. As long as it's creative criticism. :) ) Lots and lots of work left to do. But I thought at least someone might be interested in what I have so far. Basically all I have at this point is a modified sketch using WOL's templates and an early poster board mock-up I'm making first to later use as a template for the final armor.

Then today, on another message board, I came across these gloves that I'm going to get for the outfit.

And in the process of searching for a place to buy the gloves I came across this jacket from the same manufacturer that I'm thinking about using for the top half of the flightsuit.

Re: officialy started my custom
This is going to be so ****ING AWSOME!!!!!

Re: officialy started my custom
Looks good, my only advice is to ditch the idea on the right shoulder. From what I see it looks as if it limit movement of your arm.
-
Re: officialy started my custom
nice gloves overall this will be one sweet suit
-
Re: officialy started my custom
This looks like it will be definately interesting. I kind of agree with arctroopmega5, the shoulder does look like it may be in the way...maybe instead of getting rid of it completely you might cut it down in the front a bit.
Can't wait to see some progress on this once you start. What do the gloves and jacket run?

UNLESS, maybe you have it solid so you can brace, say, a large bazooka-ish rocket launcher of some type?

That was my thought after looking at this. I was thinking that it needs an extra layer of padding of some sort. Although if you had to use a rocket launcher or heavy weapon if it is to powerful wouldn't it break the armor off? This slight change in chest pattern show that you are no ordinary mando so some extra armor attachments and/or special weapon is to be expected. I look forward to your future progress.

Re: officialy started my custom
Perhaps, if the right shoulder does interfere with your movement, you could cut it off and and make a different, separate shoulder armour piece and attach it to the side of your arm, like shocktroopers, kind of.

Re: officialy started my custom
Looks like a Predator/Mando hybrid. I like it!
-
Re: officialy started my custom
yea the sholder may cause you not able to move your arm very much, and the collar peice does thhat choke you? Awsome idea, lookin really good
for the shoulder you could make a hinge system? like people do to put on the gauntlets, have a hinge at the top of the flap in front so when you do move your arm it can move with you

Re: officialy started my custom
wow! that's a really cool looking concept!
Can't wait to see this come together :thumbsup

Re: officialy started my custom
Thanks for the comments everyone.
As far as the shoulder goes. From what I've put together so far it doesn't seen to interfere with movement too much. If I do find it hinders my arm when I get done with the mocking up I can modify it at that point.

You hit the nail on the head

I've seen the gloves listed for $150 and the jacket for $320. However I have also found them listed on ebay for much less.

Re: officialy started my custom
crazy awesome gloves man, a bit bulk tho, still cool
-
Re: officialy started my custom
Looks like the jacket and gloves are made for Motocross or something like that, no? The gloves kinda look like Mandalorian Crush-Gauntlets, it'd seem fitting as aggressive as the gloves look already-but I'd put a couple of well placed spikes along the knuckles somehow. Just a thought... You've certainly gotten a good start, and I'm sad to say that your Mando is far more original and creative than mine! I can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: officialy started my custom
The gloves and jacket are designed for street bikes. The idea is that the titanium plated are strategically placed so that if you wreck the plates grind away as your sliding down the road instead of you.

Re: officialy started my custom
what brand are those crush-gaunt looking gloves? they're absolutely fantastic! The brand looks to be "NCON" from what's written on them...
-
Re: officialy started my custom
The gloves and jacket are both made by Icon. Specifically the Timax line.
By the way, what the heck are Crush-gauntlets? I assume they crush things?

In the EU, Crushgauntlets are Mandalorian designed powered gloves attached to the normal wrist gauntlets, they increase a mando'ade's grip strengthening it to crush metal, bone, almost anything he may get his hands on.
they're pretty much outlawed, even by Mandalorians simply because of how dangerous they were. rumor has it Vader's gloves were modified Crushgauntlets, but it's more likely that they were just his own robotic limbs...
listen to me, the walking star wars encyclopedia... :D
and from what i'm seeing from most online stores, Icon has changed the look of their Timax gloves slightly, they look more sleek and manufactured and a little less cool if you were to ask me. so look for an older pair.

The Right shoulder piece is a bit odd, you may want to consider it connected only to the neck piece, like the clone commanders

I mean attaching them be snaps on the neck piece and back piece
-ps, i suck in ms paint so these are hand drawn, hence the roughness

Re: officialy started my custom
guys, It's a custom! He can do whatever he wants! So what if it's a little weird, that's good! That's just what we need around here, a little more creativity. And by that I mean, I want to see some more creativity that I know you guys have!

Re: officialy started my custom
My "creative criticism"...
As a sportbike rider I have the Ti-Max gloves as my heavy cold weather gloves...
And while they are awesome cool pieces of appearance...
They are PSYCHOTICALLY uncomfortable until they are WELL broken in. I've had mine 2 seasons and they are STILL uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. They're bulky, heavy, tight, and honestly - difficult to have good tactile response.
Also - they run small. So if you wear a large glove to start - expect to have to but an XL or prepare for discomfort even moreso as you break in the large.
As for using motorcycle stuff for your custom... I say go for it.
In my recent weight loss extravaganza - I'm planning on using some of my old gear I wore exclusively at the track (all black riding pants and jacket that zip together that are just SLIGHTLY too big now but can still be sinched to fit) to attach my armor too. It'll look very rugged. Very "battle undergarment" in feel, look, and rigid nature) and is sort of pre-armored in certain spots (shoulders, forearms, thighs, knees, etc to add that extra "masculine bulk" that sometimes a good mando needs for intimidation factor. Definately a divergence from the default flight suit look.
Heck - go down and check out some of the Alpinestars and SIDI racing boots. You want some futuristic looking stuff that is practically costume worthy footwear... that's it.
Not a ICON fan by any means when it comes to first choice of gear when I'm on the bike --- but when it comes to "cool" / "bling" factor... they make some nice looking stuff.

Re: officialy started my custom
I like the armor design. My sister and her husband each have a set of those gloves, although there's are blue and gold, we've nick named them the "transformer" gloves. I look forward to seeing your finished gear.

Re: officialy started my custom
Armor design is nice. Like the layered look for the abs. Have to agree with some on the shoulder tho. Looks as if made as one part with the chest arm movement will be limted or slightly uncomfortable. Think it might do better to layer it some how to have better freedom of movement. But as others have said it's yours and can do it as it suits the look you want. On the whole that's just gonna look mean.
