ShatirLavan is your armour all one piece
My armour is 7 pieces of sintra and several pieces of leather to connect it all.
Here's my finished armour. The paint is a spray bronze hammered finish, dry brushed over with gold.
nice do the plates move?
They have a little bit of movement. I'm really anxious to see what others are doing with this project though. Let's see some progress guys!
That looks fantastic! Wish I could make something like that, alas, I have no cash'olla. Only problem is that it looks like it's more steel colored than gold.
HOLY C R A P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!
can i buy that from you?????????????????????????? THAT IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!
Umm, I could sell it and make another for myself, but don't you want to make your own armour, dude? That's where the fun lies: making something yourself that you can be proud to put on display.
Ummm.... I do want to make some myself but.... I made my Mando armor out of a trash can......... I would probably try to make it out of a trash can but it would be less than 1/2 as cool and I'm not the best at painting things.... I'm new to this kind of stuff.

Just do what you can buddy. It takes a lot of practice to get good at costuming. The only way you'll get skilled at it is by actually making costumes.
ok then. I just got money so I'll start tomorrow. Just wondering, what kind of paint should I use
Krylon spray paint seems to be the one of the best choice. Paint it all gold and weather (or weather later on) then after it compeltely dries, use painter's tape over everything, then stencil and cut out the chest pattern in the tape, and paint the black parts. I haven't make armor before, but there are several uses for this procedure, though it's definetly not the only choice, it just seems to be the easiest IMO. Once you all painted, the painter's tape is off, and everythings dry (perhaps not all that order) spray it all over with a lil bit of Krylon Clear Matte Finish to dull any gloss from the other paints.
For weathering, there are several routes you can go. Rub-n-buff comes to mind. You could also LIGHTLY spray from black, brown, brownze, or whatever weathering colored type of paint over the armor.
If I'm mistaken at all here expert armor builders, please tell me so I can slap myself silly
thank you. I just got the templates printed! BTW does anyone have a template for the back plate?

I just took some big sheets of paper, folded them in half, and started drawing shapes on them that I hoped would work. Luckily, one of them did. You could use a Fett backpiece for starters, then play around with it.
Ok. I got the templates ready and took some pics. When I made my Mando armor my mom wanted me to take come progress pics but I never did, so I'm gonna try to take some this time around and I'll be sure to post 'em! BTW how did you attach the leather straps?
I AM SO PISSED! MY CAT JUST PUKED ON MY TEMPLATES FOR THE ARMOR AND MY LEGACY COMICS, ALL 6 OF 'EM!!! FORTUNATLY ONLY THE COVER TO #1 WAS DAMAGED, BUT STILL! NOW I HAVE TO RE-PRINT AND CUT OUT THE TEMPLATES!!!!!!!!!!!
ouch. Ya I know how pets can be so mean sometimes. You think they do it on purpose or something...
Yeah I know. But this time it was the cat I like, not the evil black cat. I'm nice to him.... I got the templates done and am going to pick up my stuff for my armor at about 7 or 8
If you look at Cade's shirt (don't have a pic handy) where the part connecting his armor plates goes over his shoulder his shirt is ripped. I'm wondering what type of material that is. in #3 after he is done talking to a certain ghost he doesn't have his armor on and his shirt looks kind of shiny.

Pulled an all nighter. Soon I am leaving, can anyone tell me where I can get the Krylon spray paint?
Well I couldn't get to a Home Depot so I checked Wal-Mart for some paint. I found the Krylon spray paint and my friend found a spary grip to attach to the paint can and make it easier to paint. I'm starting right now on the armor.
I also got some dark red cloth for the arm bands, now I need gloves and some pants. And boots, and shinguards, and his big jacket.
i'll get a back plate template up here probably in 2 days, i will make 2 versions, one with 2 peice and the one peice
that is some awsome armor!
Fantastic! Sounds like your having a good time.
Ya know, I'm trying to work on a lil prop business (still going through the preproduction stuff). I'll take a look aorund and see what I can do about the Rawk Chopped Special. If someone oculd get me as much photo resource as possbile (like a scan of every picture in the comic of it, no joke) that would VERY helpful. I ask for all of them since comic artists don't always keep things uniform thorugh the comics. Thanks a bunch!
Also, is this a two shot only gun (double barrels), or does it have a magazine of some sort? The explanation is quite vag about that.
edit: Of course I just realized something: In the Legacy 0 issue, the page that has Cade's Rawk Chopped Special (RCS) there's a picture of him with some gauntlets. To me, the right arm gaunt looks like Klingon gauntlets, while the other seems to be a data pad with two straps at the fore and back end of it which ais wrapped aorund the arm. Now I haven't read the Legacy series (shopping at eBay time) but that's what it looks like to me: (and yes, that's the best picture I could find that I could actually get)

Weird, my issue 0 has different pics, I hadn't seen those gauntlets before. I had only seen him wearing the red wrist wraps like you wear in martial arts under your gloves. Interesting to note that his armour is closer to Fett armour (ab piece especially) and he has what looks like a neck seal.
Like we said, comic artists ain't always consitent...
Yay I got my chest plates done! I'm in the proccess of painting. I really want that template for the back so hurry!
Holy ****.... How do you attach the plates???
like to eachother? front side to back side?
For the front plates I used wide strips of leather running down the inside. Each strip connects 2 segments. The leather is contact cemented to the sintra. of course you could also use extra material from the armour, it just wont be as flexible. For attaching over the shoulders, get someone to hold the armour against you, while you take a piece of leather and hold it where you want it strapped. Measure the length of leather you need, then attach.
Looking great so far..
for an airsoft conversion, there are 2 that you could use , one for the grip and back part, and the rest for the double barrels, but there's still a bit of greebles to sort out. I think makign it ouw od wood, PVC, ect would be the best way to go if you want to get an accurate looking one. However this is based on the judgement of only seeing ONE side of it, so if someone could please scan all the reference available in the comics, that would be great! Just pm me so I can give you my e-mail address. I dont need far shots, just the best refernce pics that you think I could use. Again, thanks a bunch!
What are you guys doing for A shirt?
I'm just using a black tanktop. I'm not going to bother ripping the edges because I still want to be able to use it as an actual tanktop, and not just for a costume. I've got my red wristwraps done, and I'll work on the sash soon. I'll get some more pics up at that stage.
Ladies and Gents here are the templates for your back plates... i do so hope they help. if they are to big for yea (these were made for medium size) let me know and i will shrink them
there are 4 templates, the one marked E is if u want to do a 2 peice back armor (which is longer then the one peice one). Input is always wanted so these templates can be made better. once these and the chest ones are finalized by you guys (by that, if everyone agree's they good) then i go ahead and repost the finalized copies.
Edit: these temps were to wroung and too big. redoing for your conviniance

o and if u want me to start helpin with the Rock Chop shotgun... let me know
i just need pics and the size u would want
Templates look good, ner vode. I'll try and gather some pictures for the Rawk, but I don't quite have the inclination to start building mine just yet. I'll see what progress pops up here first. Plus I have lots of my blaster building materials at my parents' home 800km away, so I'll need to pick some of that stuff up when I go home for my reading break.
Hey Shatir, that armour is looking reall good! Thanks for the info on attatcing the armour. I had thought of making a vest like with Fett armour, but that will be too difficult, so probably will copy ur idea and attachet it all with leather.
I think i am going to skip the back plate, i'm not making a Cade costume, and my character wont ever be shot in the back, and more importantly I cant take too much stuff with me when i go to C4!!!!
Well hope fully if i dont have to many distractions (women) when I get home i should be able to sand and shape my armour this weekend!!!! Lets hope!
redone back plates. should fit mjuch better i think. if not let me know and i can change them back!
when and were is C4?
C4 is May 24-28 in Los Angeles. I bought some leather and started work on a Cade belt tonight. I'm not in the mood to upload pics at every other step, however, so I'll get a whole bunch of pics up at the end of the week.
Sry I didn't get my pics up, my internet wa screwed up yesterday. It's my Birthday today! Yay!
Awesome costume. I'm working on one myself for D*Con. I was planning on doing the breastplate out of leather myself. Anyone else going that route? Just looking at the pics it looks more organic to me.
I'm also planning on taking a few liberties with the Rawk. I'm approaching this costume the way one would if they were doing it for a movie. Going to use the airsoft pistol grip shotgun as a base. I'll be posting pics when I get going.
So, here's what I have done so far: The armour is for the most part done, though I'm thinking of a couple of tweaks, the wristwraps are done, the belt is done, the sash is in progress, I need to iron it so it stays wrinkled.
Holy ****! Other then the fact that you need a different pair of pants that;s awsome. Um 2 things: WHere did you get that red shiny cloth, how did you attach it and Maybe.... nvm. It's awsome BTW you look evil in that pic, Red eye and all
sweeeeet. is the cloth that shiny? or was it the flash
I got the shiny cloth at Fabricland. It is shiny, but the flash did make it brighter than it really is. It's not really attached, I just had it tied in the back. I still have to find the way I want to attach it. I may just put elastic inside and connect the ends.
And without further delay, here are my own Cade Skywalker armor templates, these are my V2.0 templates, with like, well, most bugs cut out the works. Im not 100% happy with them, but I still I like them. If you guys see ANYTHING that I can improve on, tell me, because I'd like to only cut out one permanent set. I also relise I need to add, mabey an inch or so on the wrap around peices, I just didn't have any larger peices of paper.
And sence I know JK3 will more than likly read this, I'd like to let you know, that I have a take on Jodo Kast that no one has attempted yet. After I get some sintra, you should be able to look foreward to some pics forth coming, but sence Im not going to C4, I don't have a set date I need to be done by...They should either have a West coast Celebration, and an East coast one, or not have one at all.
Here's the templates -
nice job, i would sugest makeing the Chest peice a little bigger. Did yea try my templates? cause i really want to get those right to, got any critasism (sp) about them?
o and maybe the back strap could be longer
Those lookm nice! BTW Shatir when I saw that picture of you it was totally De Ja Vu! loq
EDIT - Shatir, if you could tell me how wide your chest peices are, I'd certainly appreciate it, so I could compare them to mine, to see if I should/how much I need to alter mine's size.
Each chest plate is approximately 8.5 inches at the widest point.
Do you have any pics on how your armor is set up? I beleive how I'm going to do mine, is that Im going to make a backing peice that conects both chest peices, and the center diamond (like yours if Im seeing it right), and then down from that, I'm going to "hang" the stomach peices so they'll be moveable, (or at least flexable to a degree.) from that under peice. And I'll do the same with my back plate to make it easier to move around in.
Yes, that's the method I used to connect the chest pieces and diamond. I used leather to back them. The stomach pieces hang, yes. Though they are not directly attached. A piece of leather connects one stomach strip to another, so that you end up with overlapping strips of leather in the back connecting the stomach pieces. It's not super flexible, but it works for now.
aaaight so i need to
A)ab plates bigger.. like wider right?
B)Lengthen the peices that go under arm, widen to?
yea sorry the temps didn't work. hopefully i can change that and get u a set that will work
Shatier, anything else need modding for templates?
P.S. the medium can be blown up if needed, but i have a feeling that doesn;t work well either?
I'd say increase the chest plate size by about 10%, but other than that I think your templates are an awesome place for everyone to go from. People just need to adjust them to how they fit individually. I'd say the way your templates are now are great for folks a little on the thin to average side of things. Personally, I'm a little burly, so I need that size. Bigger guys than I will have to make them bigger still. Really it's up to the individual to find their fit.
Yeah, Im a bigger dude too, but I'd still recommend making at least the top stomach plate larger, and perhaps the other two as well so they all match up more in size. Don't worry about them not working for us, Im sure they'll work for others still, but having larger sizes are always cool (So us bigger guys don't feel left out )
I cut out come just "junk templates" for peices to see what evrything looks like when its together, so I taped evrything up (The paper templates) and aside from bowing out in the back from the wonky shape I cut out, the front looks fracking awsome. I'll post a pic. here tomorro morning if I can before I leave.
I'd like to first let you know, that I WON'T be using these strap peice tempates as my final ones, I just cut these out so I could attach them. And like I said, my back tempates didn't work, so I didn't bother showing them, I cut them to straight.
I got my Vader shins in the mail today, and put an initial coat of paint on them. I've got a lead on some pants over on the 501st Boards.
Here are my shins, all painted. I've attached elastic straps with parachute clips, and backed the shins with foam. The only thing I have left to do is spray them with a clear coat.
I'm very anxious to see everyone else's progress.
I bought some awesome leather pants last night for Cade. I got a sweet deal on them too. Regular $325, on sale for $100! And that's Canadian Dollars too! Hehehe. I'll take some pics in full gear, but not until I see some more progress by the other folks working on this costume. Come on guys, do you really want me to be the only Cade at C4? (Plus maybe you guys have some ideas I can sneakily acquire for myself).
Well mine aint goin to good right now I'll update soon.
Im not going to C4 so I don't have a set date to be done by.....But if I where, I'd be working on it right now.
anything new on this?
I went home this week and got my shoes that I'll modify. My red waistband is shabla osik right now, I need to figure out a new way to work it. I'm in the middle of midterms too, so...yeah. Not much time for costuming, but I'll get some pics up in the next week or so.
It's looking great, did you make the belt ? cos i'm also trying to make one for my Imperial Knight outfit that im working on.......
Yeah, I made the belt myself.
Here we go boys! New pics!!!
Looking better all the time my friend......
Thanks vod. I still need to figure out a better way to do the wrist wraps, since they fall down a bit. And I haven't figured out a way to make the waist wrap work properly, that's why I'm not even wearing it in those pics. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Also, I'm thinking the armour is a little to small for me, so I may end up redoing it. If anyone feels like buying that chest armour, PM me.
My friend says that's HOT!
I love it
I was wonderin if you had the coat and the shoulder plate.
that is quite the interesting costume you have there.
Your costume is looking fantastic ShtirLavan.
Well my progress has been very very slow, partly due to laziness and party due do not having the right tools. But I finally have my armor molded, it looks really messy and isn't at all even, but i think i can get away with it in the paint job.
I am planning to paint it red and black, chest pieces red and stomach black. One thing I am really unsure of is what paint to use and how to do the battle damage. I'm living in Madrid, so if there is anybody out there from Spain who can advise the best place to get paint from it would be very appreciated!
Pics to come soon
