Very funny vod....like I said it is South Mountain here in Phoenix AZ
yeah looks like make out point to me.![]()
see its not just me![]()
Alright you keep telling yourselves that...LOL!
Your gun is cool! I like it. And beautiful mountain pic, btw.
That's why guys take girls up there for making out...
It is very "movie romance" isn't it?![]()
hey did you ever find you a helmet???
No I have not gotten a mandalorian helmet. I was supposed to get one at the begining of last month but was put on hold because of some problems.
remember you can use a Jango 2 piece, they aren't THAT bad, and they actually are more structurally sound than the Delux.
That is my intentions. I do plan on using a Jango 2-peace; I found one for a resonable price and have it saved up that way I can get one for the armor.
Now I can finally say I have a helmet. And this credit is all on L3g3ndQ for sending me a mandalorian helmet. Saved me some money in buying a replica and waiting three to four days for it to arrive. I was patient with this one. Now all I have to do go through is some modifications, paint, and a t-visor and it will be at the ready. Here are some photos. I recieved it today and L3g3ndQ thank you very much vod for helping me out.

Hey no problem!! B^) like i told you before i was lucky enough to get that extra helmet in the mail and i just couldnt keep it for my self so i thought i would pass it on to someone that could really use it! quite surprised it got there so quick!! i wish the stuff i order would arrive that fast B^P ha ha
im just about finished with the paint job on mine, it should be completed tomorrow (the paint job that is) next i have to reshape the T visor a lil and install it and the rangefinder... still need to find a stalk for that though B^( but hopefully ill have pics of the paint job tomorrow! B^)
Good luck with you armor and i expect many updates B^) he he
Well I am hopping to get some paint tomorrow after my class to start up the painting process with the armor. The only other thing I need to get is a T-Visor. Credit on my armor is with you my friend as you helped me get a mando helmet. So not only did I work on the armor but so did you by sending me a mando helmet LOL!
Hopefully, when I get my paint tomorrow I will start up and post some progress of what I got. So keep checking back LOL! You will get those updates too.
Hey! From what I can tell, that's a good looking lid! What's the make on it?
its a fang bucket B^) and when buying paint 720 make sure you get all oil based or all water based paint... dont screw up like me and get both!! B^P i learned the hard way he he so be sure to ask the sales associate what you should get and or if what you are getting is compatible with each other B^P that is if you get two different brands B^)
Well at least I know what to get in terms of paint. Going on T-Visor.com is going to hamper me on getting a t-visor. With buying paint I am pretty sure that I am not going to have enough to actually get a T-visor. Boy does that suck. Thank you for the info on what paint to get.
Jamie, talk to Thomas...we had something like 15 visors ready to cut and install and I think he has em...ask him this saturday.
And Fang...OHhhhhh....very nice.![]()
I'll be sure to if that is memory escapes me and I forget LOL! Happens at times; can't help it considering that I have all this school stuff going on.
Anyway, I was checking over the cardboard armor that I sealed over with mod podge a few weeks (maybe months: not sure) ago. When testing how sturdy it was it came up t where the armor itself was fairly hard and I could barley bend it. So the stuff I placed on it turned out really well. I am going to keep with the cardboard until I find the money to go with metal or trash can armor. This will turn out great.
just stick with krylon and youll do fine.
I have a good design of what I am hopping to do for the mando helmet. But I have a small question. What are some options of removing the extra trim around the bottome of the bucket and the t-visor? I am hopping for something simple. Please and thank you guys!
well i used a drimmel tool! worked like a charm...keyholes was a bit tuff but i got em cut out also with the drimmel
Alright; time for some updates guys. Today after baking a cake and cleaning the house up a bit before my grandma comes down from Wisconsin I went to Wal*Mart and purchased on some Krylon Fusion paint for my armor.
Three colors that will be used for the armor. Hoorah for me lol!
Along with that; after my dad got home he told me to go and get my helmet. I did not know what he wanted with it but then he asked if I wanted the visor cut out so that a tinted visor could be placed within it. He did so using some cutting tools and cut the t-visor out of the helmet along with the excess stuff on the bottom. Here is how it came out.
Now hopping that my schedule at school does not get in the way I will begin painting on the helmet and hopefully the weapon. Until then guys; that is what I got in terms of updates. More photos to come.
looks good, get that visor in![]()
if you get you some "stay" from a hobby store like hobby lobby you can save your self some major time in the weathering department B^) also are you planning on using primer?? also before painting tha bucket i would make sure to give it a quick sanding with a super fine sand paper. that way it will give the paint something to hold onto! B^)
Yeah I was lucky enough to get the stuff from Wal*Mart today before some guys from Dish Network T.V. had to come out and fix my T.V. because of it not working whenever I want to watch T.V. I swear it is like trying to fix a computer. But going to Wal*Mart to get the pain kind of left me a little broke and tight on some cash with nearly $10 bucks left. And that ten dollars is for my lunch at school unless I decide to take left overs from the house.
I would have enough for a t-visor from T-Visor.com but as stated before I had to get this paint before I spent the money on useless things LOL! There maybe a chance that I wont have my t-visor until after Halloween which really sucks. If that becomes the case then there is a good chance that I'll just wear a black mask over my head that conceals everything except for my eyes. So if people do look at me then they probally wont notice that a T-Visor has not been placed.
The grey paint that I got is basically for a first layer before I truly start adding over the colors of red and black. I will also be using the grey as battle marks and scars that will be shown on the armor. So it should come out good enough to me with all of my stuff. I am going to take my time on this. The only other thing I really need is a t-visor and some attachments to hold the armor onto my form.
you can get visors locally at HD or lowes here in PHX for about 6 bucks, in several colors. id stick with green or smoke grey.
shade #3 or #5
no tinting required.
When I do go to either HD or Lowes what would I look under to get the visor. Green is sounding like a mighty fine color to use in my book LOL! And it's a good thing I wont need the tinting for it all LOL!
Now that is all aside with the T-Visor lets get some updates going.
The helmet updates will be on tomorrow. Thursday is one one of my longer days at school so I really could not get anything accomplished today except with some materials that I am putting into the costume to make it look more cool. So I pulled out my black mask that I used for my sith costume a while back and test fitted it with a sweet looking bandana that will also be put into the armor. I was looking all over for it and finally found it.
So can you all guess what kind of shirt I am wearing in that photo? LOL! I am kidding you don't have to guess unless you want to.
Anyway, moving on my parents have been cleaning and straightening up one of our rooms which we call the "big living room" it used to be a garage but the people who lived here before us modeled it into another room. Anyway, they pulled out a bunch of stuff and set it in the regular living room we use everyday. Turns out one of them was a black pack. I thought since I wont have a back plate that I will just use this until then. I believe it will work well with the armor and helmet.
Return later tomorrow and I will get the photos of my helmet up for viewing. Thanks for supporting me in this guys.
hmmm from what i can see your shirt is some guitarist... cant tell who though.
Btw looks great! ill be waiting for the pics tomorrow![]()
Hey Commander, like I was talking about on my Mando Couple thread, if you were able to swing enough for some silver type paint, paint that on your bucket after the primer. Then paint on toothpaste (I used Arm & Hammer type, but don't think it matters) in streaks for cuts, dots for dents and dings. Then lay down your color coat. Once it's dry, wash your bucket and the toothpaste will come off. Don't try to wipe it, cause the paint will basically turn the toothpaste into creamy paint and will smear your paint job. Washing will get it off and make the edges of your mask lines look chipped.
I thought it was win-win. 18 bucks for masking fluid vs. 1 dollar for toothpaste & not even cause I already got that. I try to find bits of stuff like you and make use of it. Remember, OT Star Wars was all about real world used items and kit bashing.
Oh and here's a tip for you. Ask your ROTC buds and others you may know to see if they make model kits...even if it's embarrassing to admit for them. All current and prior modelers have a stash of random spray paints, most importantly to you, usually lots of silver and black.
Alright as promised I have some updates for viewing. Started with the bucket and went into the weapon seeing as it was the next smallest thing to paint. I put up about two layers of grey paint on the helmet and may need a third which I will do tomorrow along with adding the first coat of red on the helmet. All in all I am pleased with how it turned out.
I also worked with my weapon as well which turned out really good. It actually does look like the DC-15S blaster rifle seen from the Clone Wars animation series on Cartoon Network.
So far everything is going well. I am going to touch up and do some more stuff tomorrow. Just wanted to get the basic stuff down today that way I would be ready for tomorrow's paint after my nephews football game. Before I went to school I went on searching along with my mom and we came across some battery operated glow sticks which I am thinking of using for my helmet so anyone who comes across me will see me instead of running into a darkened mando LOL! Need to decide what color to use for the glow sticks.
But as I have stated before I am going to finish up on my weapon as the trigger does need to be painted to look better and I will begin work on the helmet more adding on battle damage and all that other good stuff. Hopefully the first coat of red will be on for viewing and probally black on sunday.
That's all for now folks.
ya i'd paint that triggerlooks good
cant wait to see you get into the detailing
Are you keeping the Boba dent? I just picked up a helmet and it has a Boba dent too. Any tips out there for filling it? Bondo I assume?
I had no intentions of filling the Boba Fett dent of my helmet. I figured that I could use the dent to my advantage and add some good battle damage to the helmet. My helmet is going to have a lot of battle damage on it by the time I am through. I am a person who likes to see good amounts of damage to a mando LOL! Just gotta figure different places to put the damage I want. But if you are wanting to fill the Boba dent on your helmet I would guess it'd be bobdo.
you could cut out the dent, then patch it from inside with 'glass, and fill it from the outside with bondo etc.
Could but as said I am going to use that dent as apart of my battle damage to make it look more awesome when the helmet is complete. I am a battle damage crazy person LOL!
sorry that comment was for gymbeau, he/she asked how to fill it.
I'm the same way Commander, I scuffed my armor up pretty good, esp considering my scratches and dents weren't just paint effects. I just don't want the same dent as 100's of other Mandos.
I'm too chicken to cut the dome and patch it, so I'll prob. just fill it.
Eh..sorry had a rough day today and yesterday. Not really in a working mood at the moment LOL!
But yeah good luck with filling the dent up my friend.
Don't worry bout it! We'll be happy as long as you get back to work eventually.Weapons and bucket are coming along nicely. Yay pistols!
Okay I may of slipped a little bit today but I did manage to get some stuff done with my weapon and helmet. In terms of my weapon I painted up the trigger of the weapon to give it that more serious look to it. Now it truly does look like a DC-15S clone blaster seen from The Clone Wars. I kept the trigger orange seeing as Halloween is coming up and the colors are orange and black LOL!
Now for my helmet. I did not add on the red and black colors just yet. When looking the bucket over I and my family noticed some drops that were noticable on the helmet. So had to head to the store and get some sand paper to sand the helmet down and re-paint. Luckily, this time I had some help LOL! Here is now the helmet with a more fresh coat of paint on. Tomorrow I'll be adding on the red color to it which will look a lot better. And hopefully, I will be able to get to Home Depot to get the material for the visor.

Lookin sharp Commander! I cannot wait for my Sgtfang helmet to arrive
Wow, your DC looks great! Love the orange trigger. Can't wait to see your helmet painted.
Thanks a lot vod. I thought it would turn out good and sure enough it did. I am proud that I got that done.
-----
Now, lets talk on some updates. Business did catch up with me today but that did not stop me from working on the mando helmet with some help. I was able to get all the tape down before the red paint was added onto where it was. Enough of that here are the photos before and after.
Before (with the tape):
After (removing the tape)
Tomorrow will be the final stuff of black. It truly is turning out to be a mandalorian helmet. Keep watching guys; its almost there.
Last edited by Commander720; 10-25-2009 at 07:28 PM.
thats how I did my battle damage on my black bucket.
Remember you can do the toothpaste masking which is cheaper than using painters tape in the long run.
Yeah but be careful with the toothpaste! I just did the removal of toothpaste on my girlfriend's armor and it was a disaster. I used the Krylon Fusion paint (2 layers) and tried my washing off method. The fusion paint turned out to me TOO latex-y. The paste wanted to wash off, but the Krylon just stretched. I ended up using one of those dish washing sponges that are attached to the handle you fill with soap. It turned out ok and looked chipped, but some of the sliver undercoat came off with it.
So long story short, just be conscious of what paint you use if you mask with toothpaste!
PS - if your interested, check out my Mando couple thread...I built our belt pouches with pleather and it turned out awesome! $8 and I churned out 15 pouches with hot glue, scissors and luck in about 2 hours.
I was on the verge of using toothpaste to add in more battle damage but decided not to as I do need the toothpaste to keep my mouth minty fresh in those early mornings when I have dragon breath. So hopefully I will get to the store today to get the stuff for the visor and some silver and black paint to touch up on rust and add in stuff for the helmet and the armor when it comes time.
after your krylon base layer (to stick to the plastic) you can switch to rattle can "automotive" paints which when dry will come off clean.
Got some work done today. Did take a while to get the helmet set up for the final painting process of black. But in the long run turned out to be really good. I am overall very impressed with the work performed on the helmet. So I will stop talking for now and let my photos do the rest.
Before Painting (with tape):
After Painting (waiting for it to dry):
Completely Dry (removing tape):
Next thing on my list is getting the ear pieces painted up and connecting them to the side. This will also include the t-visor which I am hopping to get the material tomorrow so I can add it in along with the ear pieces. Which will possibly come after school.
----
Another thing to add on; I was going through trying to find the right hand glove to one of my gloves but could not find it at all. Then with help; I came across a glove that did not cover entire fingers. So this is what I will be using. I had a guess of it having that feel like what Anakin Skywalker went through when he lost his hand and placed a large glove over it. LOL!

Looking good girl!!!
Painting on the helmet looks good! Are we gonna see this thing at Sabo Con?
I am not entirly sure if I am going to be able to go to the saboten con. My friend has changed his mind yet again on going. I was really hoping to go with him but because of him changing his mind yet again I am not sure if I will make it. If I do it will be a mirecol. If not expect to see the complete set at the Phoenix Con.
Don't forget to dirty the red and silver up hun![]()
Yeah; I was wondering on that. Any sudjestions on getting the helmet down and dirty? I am open for anything that is simple to do....LOL!
BLACKWASH!!!
...then silver touch-up...
then...MORE BLACKWASH!!!
That is the way it's done.
A'den
P.S.- You need a ride to Sabo? Quite a few of us are going, and I think at least one of us can get you a ride. Heck, I can prolly get you there if it comes down to it.
well what i did for mine is i used water and black Vallejo.... (prolly didn't spell that right) paint basically its citadel (brands name) paint sept i think its better than citadel paints. then i i just dipped a paper towel in just a lil and beat the heck out o my armor with it while gently fluffing over it with a clean paper towel, i then used a mat varnish/sealer over it....you can get those at most comic shops that sell warhammer minis. and if you wana keep the shininess of the paint on the armor you can get a gloss varnish/sealer as well
p.s. i used a lot of water with about half the bottle of paint.... the cup was maybe a 20oz cup and i filled it about .25 of the way then added the paint... just really watered down paint B^P
Boy does life suck....well in terms of searching for things for armor. I have been to two stores: Home Depot and Harbor Frieght in search for material to make a T-Visor for my helmet. Home Depot had nothing that could come even close to something like that. And then Harbor Frieght? Well they had the material of a face shield but it was to light of a color and they had the mesh kind. So I may not have a t-visor for my helmet for Halloween.
To strike against that (since my family is going out of town tomorrow) I will have to take black mesh and tape it into the helmet until I get a T-Visor for the helmet. Not much but it is something that I am hopping to accomplish after Halloween. Will just have to keep searching for stuff that can help in getting a T-Visor. Really does suck GRRRR!!!!
This might help if you can't find any locally. I ordered from here for my visors when I use to have a shop. You'll want model number HU-H9154D which runs for about 7 bucks. Shipping will be where the cost is so the total price will come out to about 14 bucks if you only get one. Normally I'd buy a few so that the shipping cost to product cost would be worth it.
Looking good so far.
BTW: That visor is a Shade 5, just in case you want to go check the one at your local place. Or maybe they could order it for ya.
Last edited by Talon; 10-28-2009 at 10:35 PM.
thats a good visor, but if you want custom color, you can get the clear XXX9154 and get colored window tint for other colors. I ordered mine a few days ago to use with my blue mirror tint for my snow mando.
So you can make your visor match your paint scheme, or you could of course get one from the flea of bay. Like my red one which I now have silver mirror tint to put on it to make red mirror.
That maybe my only possibility. I had a lot of help with painting the helmet so I am probally going to recieve help with my visor. I know I wont have a visor for Halloween so I am sticking with mesh until I can get that face shield. I am not sure what color to have for my visor. As you can see my paint scheme on my helmet is red and black. I really don't think a red visor would work well. To much color LOL! But will just have to see until then.
You could take colored construction paper or a colored transparent acrylic sheet and tape it inside your helm to get a feel for what a colored visor would look like. Both should be easy to find at hobby stores.
Well I am pretty much stuck at home until Sunday. So really can't get out to get things for my helmet anymore. On the bright side I managed to pull together sticking the ear pieces to the side of the helmet and putting the black mesh in for the visor until I can have the chance to get some visor material. In a way the mesh will help me out with knowing what to expect through seeing a visor.
I pretty much got down the idea of what I am going to be doing for Halloween with this bucket. Instead of going completely mando with this costume I am going to go through half star wars and half scaring. I am wanting this to be a suprise so photos of the costume will be up tomorrow night after taking my nephew out trick-o-treating. I am overall impressed with the work put into it all and let me tell you all that you will like the costume too when I get those photos posted up.
something that you might want to consider doing is keeping the mesh in there and setting a visor under it. I've always wanted to try that...![]()
I was thinking what a metal mesh would look like with a visor, I think it would look cool.
Sorry have not been online in a while; got pretty busy on my end concerning with school work and the like. But on the bright side I got a few photos of my mando helmet. But no photos of me wearing it with the unique halloween costume I had in mind with it. But I will have some photos up of what the helmet looked like during the glorious halloween time. Now that halloween is over I can focus on my armor pieces and getting them accomplished.
Heh, when we are young the only thing we ever do is school... I completely understand, LoL.![]()
Cant wait for pics!
when we're older the only thing we ever do is work! lol sorry couldn't resist... I definately know the feeling tho, we've always got somethin' else that HAS to be done... unfortunately.
yeah really! I think my armor will be getting a LOT of attention when I get home... I really want to get it finished.
Ditto (man, it is really easy to thread jack...)
lmao YES IT IS!!! sorry 'bout that CC!
Not a problem guys. I really don't mind it. It actually opens me up to ideas that I can use on my own armor aside from "WORK" and "SCHOOL". It is one of those things I guess LOL!
Set promises and a mando shall deliever that promise. Me I got the photos off of my phone (which is how I take my progress photos) and set them up on my myspace in my progress album. Here is my bucket and what was used to give it that look of completion for halloween.
If I may say it turned out really good. The mesh worked really well and gave me some good sight. Wore the helmet the entire night that I took my nephew out trick-o-treating and using my clone blaster as apart of it all. The glow stick light I had to tape on with painters tape because there was no way that I'd be able to glue that thing on and have it dry in time for halloween use.
When I did go out; I took a skeleton t-shirt, black pants, the belt I would be using for the armor, a cloak with a hood, a glove used for the armor, and a skeleton glove. This gave it that scare halloween look which I enjoyed. Not only that I got a few stares from crowds; some even asking me if they knew me. Wearing a helmet has its effects LOL!
But I got a lot of compliments of how well the bucket turned out after painting it. Granted there is still some more things to do but hey....I am happy with the progress.
Not much more to add on in terms of updates. I am still trying to come with an armor plate design for my armor. As far as I can tell everything is going well. I also know what I am going to use for my mando gauntlets. More info will come tomorrow; not much in the mood to type a whole bunch of paragraphs. LOL!
Me again, on my "dirty that helmet up" crusade!
MAKE IT DIRTY, MAKE IT DIRTY, MAKE IT DIRTY (chanting)
DIRTY DIRTYcouldnt help it
![]()
LOL!, that is what I meant when I said I still have some work to do on the helmet. LOL! Making it dirty and giving it that good old battle damage style to it. That will show how much my mando has been in battles.
I'll give away my little dirtying secret... Liquid Shoe polish.
One black, one brown, smear on wipe with tissue till you get desired effect.
Funny thing about that; I have some black liquid shoe pollish from my time in NJROTC when I had to shine my shoes. I was wondering if I should use it or not considering if if was a good way to give that look I want. But yeah thanks...now that I know a way to get the dirty look I can use some of the shoe pollish I have to make my helmet more dirty. Thanks!!!!
just roll it around in the mud for a bit that'll work. wait your in Arizona do you even have mud out there?![]()
-Clears throat- Uhhhh.....no don't have mud unless I travel up to Flaggstaff which usually gets the most rain. To much travel though have to save it for my Glamis trip which is in two weeks. So yeah!!!
just use dirt!
you knwo my stance
Hey yeah I will just take it to Glamis with me when I go to Glamis. If a sand storm starts up I will set the helmet out in the middle of the sand storm and let it work the magic LOL! Both good ideas....I may use both of them!!!!!
Work has gotten up to me in school; I've managed to pull together some supplies to give my mandalorian helmet that dirty style look to it. Mainly using the black liquid shoe pollish and will throw some dirt on it to give i a more of a heavy tone of dirtiness. Hopefully, sometime this week I'll get that done.
See, battle scarred I think is cool. But personally, I don't like the dirty look. Having been in the military for a long time, dirty equipment is the sign of a bad warrior. Just like a dirty weapon, ya know. To each his own, I know.
I just see filthy, dinged up Mandos and wonder, dang no washing machine or rattle cans in Star Wars?
yeah I kinda have the same feeling regarding the dirt... I like scars and scrapes, not so much dirt... we're taught to keep our gear clean, even if we can't bathe ourselves so... lmao
Im agreeing with them, i'd dirty it up but not crazily
If your in the middle of a battle you dont have time to clean, and you can get really dirty/bloody in a few minutes.
Yeah, clean is good, and my black/purple is clean but scratched, scraped, dinged and dented, but clean.
My Snow is blood splattered, no dents or dings, but dirty. Well white gets dirty easily![]()
When I say dirty it up, I mean make it look used, not covered in mud. It's why I use shoe polish as it gives the metallic colour a good dull, oxidised look.
I supposed I should say distress the paint work really.
very nice vode darn double post sorry
Excactly what those Navy JROTC guys taught us during my four years in High School. We learned that you always need to leave the "location" better then what it was when you arrived. But who says a mando can't jump into a mud puddle and mess around. All you need to do is go to Kamino to wash all that mud away and your golden.
But I get at what you are going at. I don't plan on going extreme over-board wih the dirty process. Giving the helmet thoe dings and scratch marks seemed enough for me. I will be getting some of my liquid shoe pollish and use some dirt to get it that look I want.
Along with that note I deciding to share some favorite photos of mine taken a while back. Some cool looking photos before graduating high school and afterwards. I am having a trip coming up and wont be around to give you guys updates on what is going on. But in the long run this gives me something to pass the time while on the computer and working on the helmet.
Just some stuff to pass the time during my last few months of High School and then after high school. I made it worthwhile....now comes that part of more fun during these months and all.
love the pic with the light sabers.![]()
Same here; that photo was taken the day before the Phoenix Cactus Comi-Con at my friends house. It was his birthday and that Saturday we went to the con. Those four photos display what I like to do and what hobbies I have LOL!
Decided to get a little creative tonight guys. Me and my nephew having a little fun basically.
Overall a fun-filled night so far.
Went to Wal*Mart the other day to get something to carry my IPOD touch around so that it does not get scratched inside my pocket. It was up until Saturday or so that I realized that I could use this thing in combination with my work in progress armor. So gathering materials together and all I did some test fitting and took a few photos. This is what I came up with in the long run.
A good overall look. Maybe something that good act as a H.U.D. or some kind of scanner. Not entirly sure seeing s it is my IPOD touch that I am using LOL!
you can find some sort of short animation that looks like a scanner or something, the edit it in some free editing software, loop it to make a long running animation, then play it on the iPod while your trooping, people will see it and WOW COOL![]()
Yeah I was planning on it. I got this application on my IPOD from ITUNES for free that is a finger print scanner. I started it up and looked at it to see if it would work but it does not have any kind of thing that could work out so I am going to check through ITUNES and websites to see if I can find something like that.
