Wow man, coming along nicely! Keep up the good work.![]()
Yes, yes, yes!! That bounty hounter is really cool. Keep doing it, your efforts will have great results!
Thanks guys!!! I'm sorry i haven't posted any updates on this in a while, but I kinda burned out on it and am taking a bit of a break to recharge the batteries.
I'll hopefully have updates on saturday night/sunday morning for this (even if it is only one or two plates.)
A'den
You wanna know why you are so burned out? BECAUSE YOU ARE MAKING SO MANY CUSTOMS AT ONE TIME!![]()
Best of luck with all of the buddy
no vod, that's my secret; have lots of projects so that when you get burned out on doing one, you move to another one, then when that one gets frusterating, you move again, and on it goes.
Just note that this DOES NOT work well when your boss gives you a project deadline.![]()
HAHAHA![]()
You've got a point there man!
Alright, so I'm working on the left knee (yeah, kinda a random place to start...) and this is what I have come up with:
I am going to make the center plate first using 1mm sintra, then plate it with 1mm sintra to get the grooves that are in it. Then if you notice, the sides of the knee plate are some sort of semicircular slide for the knee plat to rotate on.
Those are attached around the back of the leg by a strap. I am going to use an elastic strap to hold it on to my leg, then a hinged plate over the top of that.
/\ The elastic will sit under this plate.
So, that is my start. I will hopefully have pics for you soon.

sounds good vode!!!
Ya! what fractal said![]()
random start there vodbut hey it's a start right?
My vod Jonathan has been drooling over your armor and is determined already that his next Mando (or his point 2 version of the current one) will be largely influenced by this set of heavy armor.
Kandosii ner vod!
I want to here some cheering!!!
Thanks to a buddy of mine who came to my armour party, I have loads of plastic to do this set out of!!! So be prepared for updates...cept that I'm leaving for New Mexico soon...but I'm taking armour with me, soooo...updates might be fewer, but probably lots in each one.
Cheers vode!
A'den
Or San Diego!!! Join the happy ranks of adonian and me!!! :P
Me??? I live here bro!!!![]()
Now I am interested. When I saw someone doning these pictures for their Roleplay character on myspace I grew interested in the armor. But I also thought it looked nothing like mandalorian armor but then again looks can be decieving. My interest went into the helmet and how it looked but I am not one that is a good sculpter. But truly I can't wait to see what you come up with for this project. I can barley contain my excitment level LOL!
Oh, man, I missed himtoo!!!
Dont worry vod! I'll be back sooner or later! The condo isnt going anywhere, and neither is Legoland, so I'll be back.![]()
hehe legoland, i still havent been. but the wifey and her sister took the younglings a few months ago. i'm more of a disneyland guy myself, i try to get there at least once or twice a month.
Adonian: Once or twice a month? that's a lot of dough...
A'den: Sweet, Can't wait to see more!
Adonian, I'm a lego maniac...I should post a pic of my latest project...along with the pics that are trapped on my phone for the helmet tutorial...![]()
YES! LEGO IS AWESOME!![]()
I guess it shouldn't surprise me that you guys are all lego maniacs too. i'll have to get around to posting some pics of my home made custom x-wing.
:thumbup A'den that helmet is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude I can't wait to see what is to come for the finished peace of work. Hopefully, be able to see the completed product at Phoenix Comi-Con. Keep it up with the updates
That is an awesome helmet and the concept of the armor is one of the most interesting i've seen around. Love it! can't wait to see more progress!!!!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzznnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Iam starting up my whip!!! Give us PROGRESS!!!
Give the man a break!
Vode, I have been OUT OF STATE!!! Give a guy a break!!!
I do have some pics of the FINISHED helmet (with face geebies and RF thingy (I am SO technical) attached).
BUT, the pics are trapped on my phone at the moment...working on getting them...I'll post when I do.![]()
Take your time vod; there really is no need to rush at it.
Ill defend u ner vod................
ummmm on second thought..............
maybeeee once i have my armor finished![]()
DOUBLE POST!!! Sorry!!!
After a great deal of resistance, my phone surrendered the pictures to me. And here they are!!!
And, by-the-way, I am never going on a long vacation without internet again. I have SO much to read!!!
Cheers all!!!
A'den
Same here ner vod
Looks great!!!!!
ALSO, I took a stab at the armour, and failed fabulously. So, I will be attempting to form the armour using A'den Skirata's method; I will make the armour out of posterboard first, then fibreglass and bondo it. HOPEFULLY it works better than my other attempt...![]()
That helmet is sooo sweeeeet! I love the Mando look in the Old Republic trailer, and it's awesome to see it starting to come to life. Excellent work vode! Can't wait to see how the armor turns out.
Can't wait vode!!! "I hope for your sake this battle station(armor) is fully operational by the time the Emperor (adonian's whip) arrives here, he is not as forgiving as I am"![]()
Ori'jate vod, no whips this time, you got me beat everytime, I only have parts laying around, nothin "complete" yet.
Why does real life have to hit so many speed bumps?
WAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Holy munchkin! A'den, the helmet is sooooooooo sick! (in a good way)![]()
cough coughkidding
No its great!! i wish i had that bucketlooking forward to more

Alright, here is another tutorial (I guess it's a branch off of the helmet one):
Bondoing 101
Alright, start with these:
Bondo
Hardener
Applying tool (refered to as the BAT; Bondo Applicator Tool)
Then, you take a small-ish amount of bondo (I use about a golfball sized amount)
Add the required amount of hardener (read the bondo can label...I never use the right amount so I dont know what it is...)
Stir THOROUGHLY...
Then, using the BAT, apply the bondo to your construction in a spreading motion, leaving a thin, mostly even coat:
And then your done!!!repeat process until you get a nice, even coat over the entire helmet. Hope this helps guys!
A'den
THANKS A BILLION!!I just realized i dont have any hardener
but thats gonna help tons! THANKS![]()
If you bought a tub of bondo, the hardener is under the clear top lid...
O
HAHAHA im a geniousI havnt opened it yet lol
THANKS AGAIN![]()
lmao that's funny lev'ika!
Just remember that when it comes to sanding, it's easier to sand a lump than try to sand out a hole.
So if holes appear when you sand, you will need to put another small layer of the bondoglass over it then sand again once it's dry.
Also you will need rough grit to get the shape (60 to 120), smooth grit to even the surface (200 to 800) and fine grit (wet and dry paper 1000 up) to smooth the surface out. Always do it in that order, too fine a grit too early will take you ages and too heavy a grit later one and you'll just put scratches into the surface.
Hope that helps.
THANK YOU THANK YOU! I WILL BE HERE ALL WEEKwell actually... quite awhile
![]()
Haha! Don't you just love it when you make silly mistakes like that?
A'den & Saz: Thanks for the tutorial! That'll be helpful when it comes time to make a custom helmet!
Out of curiousity A'den did you CAST that OR bounty hunt bucket out of bondoglass?
No, I used paper temps, then coated it in bondoglass, then sanded...and sanded...and sanded...![]()
leave it to you to make a top of the line bucket![]()
anything new on the armor yet?
Not yet...I have built a base to form my plastic on though (now I can make more than one set!!!) I need to get some accelerant so I can laminate my 2mm plastic plates into 6mm plates...or order more sintra...
I haven't really done much of anything on this or my other mando lately...been helping Dem and the vod'ike with their stuff, but hopefully as this is a nice long weekend, I'll get some done. And on this, as I need metal for the other build.![]()
A'den where did you get those templates? Did you make them? Any way you could share?
Yeah, i really wanna try to make one of those buckets vod!
helmet or armour templates? I made the temps, but the armour ones no longer exist and the helmet ones are incomplete...I do plan on doing a run of these helmets though, once I get a master built.
Ill definatly be interested!
Either or both!
I'd love a helmet template so I can do it myself.
hey a'd'ika check PMs ner vod, also... any updates on the armor itself?
whoops... didn't see the udpates question a few days ago... sorry! lol
A'd'ika check PMs dude I have questions.
Got it Kal'ika. I have it set to auto-notify me when I get on.![]()
lol ok, yeah so do I... anyhow working on redrawing your TOR mando... it was done, but for some odd reason I don't think a big, nasty, choclate milk covered blob of runny ink would look to good! lol
EWWY!![]()
Man, what a waste of good chocolate milk!
I cant wait to see it Kal!
And, in answer to many question I've been getting about helmet construction (and in particular, the fibreglassing aspect of it) I'm gonna post this link here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU27gc0Mkbg
It's from our buddies over in the 405th, and the same concept applies to fett lids.
A'den
PS- I am still making a complete bucket tutorial...it's just taking some time...![]()
bump bump...lol yeah A'd'ika u know already but for anyone else monitoring, the sketch is up on my Custom Mando Art Thread. Any progress ner vod? How's it moving along? I'm dying to know how u're going to do the chest plate. Any progress on the supercommando bucket? I'll be able to pay ya for mine in a few more weeks ner vod. Can't wait to see that either! lol Oya A'd'ika! Oya!
PS- how's that for a page bump? lol
thanks kal!
And actually, this project is on the backburner right now. I need to do (in this order)
1. Supercommando bucket (for kal)
2. Senate commando bucket (for whiteraven)
3. Noramal bucket for the ad'ika
4. finish off the other ad'ika beskar'gam
5. and THEN this build.
So yeah...it might be some time...BUT, the helmet tutorial I promised in the above post will get done soon.
A'den
What about one for me?KIDDING! thats quite a list you've got there!
Very nice job on the helmet, the colors are great!
New to this thread. Very nice choice of subject to style your new lid and armor on!!
You're making great progress too! Looking forward to more pics.![]()
lol A'd'ika u're a real trooper man... u work ur six off ner vod.
Well I can't wait to see you finish this up!
Do you have a thread for that supercommando bucket?
not yet, vod, I've gotta start on it.THEN there shall be a thread.
