Here is my original set of armor I built when I first started... this character is Jaing Skirata.

Upgraded Jaing Version 2.0. Retired after SDCC 08 as the helmet was signed by Karen Traviss!
"Kaminoans make great gloves!"? That's so cool!!
Great armor too! I love the signed lid you have there.
I also noticed that your chest display is blue? What did you use for it? I'd like to have mine green to match my color scheme but I'm not sure what to use.
Now that Jaing's retired, I'll be costuming as his Null Arc/Mando Merc brother A'den Skirata.
I'm loving this set and it's much more comfortable to wear than the Jaing armor was! During the photoshoot I broke one of the spikes off the toe of one of the boots. So, I' replace the boot spikes with spiked collars over the toes. i took the 4 spikes that were on the toes and put them on the forhead of my helmet, beskar headbutts baby!. The 4 boot spikes were removed and have been put on the headband of my buy'ce! Nothing like a spiked beskar headbutt to livin things up a bit! Also, looking at the pix, my thighs are to bare as the kama doesnt wrap around all the way so, I'm thinking of adding a thigh holster to the right thigh and a leg pouch to the left. I was surprised how little the weathering on the suit showed up in the pix too. It's beat up good! I'm not gonna add to it any cuz there's plenty in person. The last thing I noticed was I covered the Mercs Skull on my cod plate so, I'll be rearranging the pouches on my belt. ive also added a vpoice amp!
I'll be making my "trooping debut" in this armor on halloween. i'll get new pix up then!
here are some pix of the A'den helmet interior...
Sweet!! I love the visor on the A'den lid! That was the exact effect I wanted for mine, though I couldn't locate the film to cover my visor so went with chrome. I like the interior alot too!
Your gauntlets make a nice change to custom Mando armor too!
Did you get my last regarding the blue display on your Jaing chest piece?
as for the visor... the visor itself is a regular smoked t visor from tvisor.com after it was installed, i overlayed it with a trimmed out t that i cut from a green welding shield.
Thanks for the info! I know what you mean about Gauntlets, I went with my own design too.
I've not come across scrolling name badges on ebay? I have seen scrolling belt buckles though. The green one actually being the most expensive. I've not gone with one though as I think it looks far too big to be useful. I'll have to pop over and search for name badges!! V'ore!
Great idea for your visor too! I did think of motocycle visors but just went with the chrome film instead.
Great stuff ner vod!
try this out!
Thanks very much! I didn't find that one on my first search. I did find red, blue, yellow and even white though!!! These things are a great budget way of lighting your chest!!
I've already had a few ideas on what mine would say. LOL!!
Thanks very much for the help Jaing! I really appreciate it!
Whoa. I thought the first two were kind of cool, but that third one is just utterly awesome. That was a huge improvement in your skills my friend. Good work, seriously.
That helmet interior makes me jealous. That's exactly what I wanted mine to look like...
you gotta weather that rifle, mate. It's such a cool costume, but the glossy black blaster does not go with the beat up armor
Looks awesome brother.
It seems like yoru helmet could be... bigger? But the camera does wierd stuff.
Did you not get an extra brown piece for the forehead?
If you didnt, i need to get you another.
Also, I have a 'rubber' mq board that can fit behind the rear piece now. Wanna try one out?
Thanks for the comments. I learned alot from the time I got my first set until my current set. Perhaps the most significant thing I learned was layered weathering rather than topical weathering. Looks so much more realistic!
Stormrider who has a comment here just under yours made the helmet interiors. Very nice and worth every penney! Contact him to see if he has any available!
Everything but the wood is silver (aluminum) under the black paint. It was layer painted without primer to allow the gune to weather naturally from the rigors of being carried about at events. It already has a couple uglies on it!
The helmet is a 1996 DP so, it's not movie sized but, I actually like the smaller tighter fitting helmet, it feels more "real" to me. I originally had a kit that I partially assembled that was movie sized but, I found a steal of a deal on the DP so, I went with it instead.
As for the forehead piece(s)... no, didn't get those. Don't remember you mentioning them or putting up the pix on the Mercs site. It's not that "star/cog" piece is it? If so, I thought it went on the top and couldn't use it. rubber MQ board huh? Got pix?
So you're going for a naturally weathered blaster eh? Sounds cool! So does that mean that people will see you doing combat rolls and throwing yourself round at conventions? Just kidding. It's a great idea actually. I'm happy with my weathering for my weapons so far but every now and then I think my weathering looks a little artificial.
My lid is scratchbuilt using my own templates and it's a little small(my nose brushes the visor occasionally). I too prefer it, it does feel more secure like my head is actually protectd inside it.
Great work Jaing!
Hey Jaing, if it's not too much to ask could we see some better pictures of that carbine of yours? It looks very much like my style. I'm assuming that you made it?
No, I didn't, it was made by Tahl Taab on the Mercs sight and it's based on an old WWII/Vietnam era grenade launcher. I'll work on getting more pix up alhough, if you're on the Mercs site as well, there is a thread showing pix from the request uo until the day he shipped it.
Some Upgrades to my A'den Skirata Armor. Added drop leg thigh holsters, a girthbelt and spiked greaves. Also, make a Melee version...
So, I've been off work for a week with a work related injury and I've been bored! I'm still waiting for my Gypsyboy helmet to come, which I'll probably work on next weekend as I'm guessing I'll be off then too. Knowing my brother needed to redo his plates and wanting something a little different with mine, I picked up a 4'x8' sheet of 6MM sintra on Friday. It's silver/grey in color, like beskar is supposed to be! So, I got to work on it Friday but cutting my plates and priming them. Yesterday I spent the day painting and attaching plates and today I finished up the last couple pieces. All the armor is bolted in place so it ain't going anywhere! Once I get the new helmet done, I'll suit up and show off all the new gear together!
WOW! That's a really nice set!! The sort of standard I've come to expect from you bro! Sweet!!
Looks great!!! I love the ammo pouch!!!
Always such good work from you. Can't wait to see the new suit.
Nice work... How many sets of armor have you made?
Well, let me stop and count ! LOL.
1. my first set
2. upgrade to first set
3. my second set
4. upgrade to second set
5. my oldest sons set
6. my youngest sons set
7. my ex wife's set
8. my brother frist set
9. my brother's second set
It's actually more like 5 made at my hands alone. I assisted with both of my brothers sets and then teh upgrades to my 2 sets. The upgrades were basically complete rebuilds. Throw another 1/2 dozen helmets into the mix as well!
Wow nice work
The upgrading and building never stops, eh?! Especially with a Mando!
nice updates, I'm really likeing this!
while I like the classic bucket better then the melee one, it's still very cool!!!
keep up the good work! and I hope you feel better!
I think this is 1 of the first times for me adding a pauldron to a costume looks like it should be there..
thanks for the kind words all. here are a couple pix from my latest troop at the fanboys premiere tuesday night. i have the new upper body armor on, new kama, new girthbelt, took the emiter nozzle off the gun, weathered the gun, changed the scope on my gun, add "fins" to the gun, wore my mask as my new gypsyboy bucket was ready yet and i added collar armor/neck gaurd....
i have a few changes to make to the kit as it stands now. i'm about 85% done with the new gypsyboy helmet which i hope to finish in the next day or 2. also, i;m going to enlarge the right shoulder plate as i feel it'd too small. finally, i'm going to drop the lower ab pplate and redo the upper ab plate.
the longterm mod is to eventually do new knee's.
Here is my new helmet, 100% complete...
Sick... I like your crusader style one too! All your stuff looks great!
Nice ears and keyslot replacement... It looks like my cell phone ears... HEHE... Good work...
That is one BA Helm man! I SO would not want to get headbutted with that if I wasn't already wearing a helmet.
It's great for giving Keldabe Kisses!
The right ear is actually a modded stud finder, the left ear has a digital recorder embedded into the standard Fett earcap and the keyslots were cut out and replaced with a cheap track phone.
Kandosii, ner vod.
Alrighty, here are some pix of my A'den 3.0 armor on it's first test run today at the California Comic Con...
I like it alot buddy! I love the chest armor and paldron!
Nice and spikey! You're like a Mando cactus. You're not from Arizona are you?
Nope, but I am from the SoCal desert! LOL
here's a little update on my kit... my completed crushgauntlets!
i should be suiting up again in a week or two for new pix. i changed my right shoulder armor and am currently building a couple new abplates and making some alterations to the method of closure on my vest.
Those are some intense crush gauntlets! Nice!
Those things are BEAST!!! Are they hard to move your hands in?
no, they really dont hamper finge mobility at all. now dexterity is a whole other thing! i can't do alot of fine motor skill stuff with them on.
Ok...that's interesting, yet really cool, that they dont hamper mobility at all...
They look awesome!!! I love all the Tandy items I see in them!!! Yay for Tandy!!!
Arent the spikes and diamond studs from tandy leather factory??? I know they carry those exact ones...
o really? i had no idea they even sold them! i actually get them from hot topic. ya know, the freak store in the mall where all the goth and emo kids hang out! lol
Lol!!! yeah, tandy has them!!! Hot Topic, that's classic!!!
Be like a mando; shop at Hot Topic!
They're awesome Jaing, wherever you got the stuff from!!!
that some sick work A'den.
Wow A'den... awesome stuff. I love sandtrooperesk shoulder gear and the use of the sword!
Nice work. I may have to take a look at Hot Topic for some items when we get started on my custom fem-mando.
Try tandy also, they have some great stuff!!!
it look great I love the spikes, say I love my mando but dont screw with me. Great job I cannot waite untill I start to build mine
Wow...just wow O.O
Everything here just looks so awesome, I too can't wait to get started on mine.
Any advice for a noob?
Absolutly... I take it you're doing a custom and not a Fett? If that's the case, learn what you can from overall construction and paint techniques here at TDH. But, if you're building a custom, www.mandalorianmercs.com should be your home! Stop in there, check out all the completed pieces and the WIP threads. Also, check out all the tutorials. Then, use the Mando maker to put your design down and start building!
I would suggest that you take your time. There's no hurry. With time and upgrades, your skills will improve and you will end up with a set more like you initially envisioned. My first set took about 8 months to build. The newest set of plates of made for my newest kit took 3 days and look 100 fold better.
Added some studs aka crushplates to teh interior of the gloves for my crushgauntlets.
Ah those are cool... *drools* Make sure you take them off before having a glass of water.
Well, short of actually making repairs, I think I've finally completed this set of armor. I went up into the hidesert area around my house today and snapped off some pix. The changes from the last set of pix...
Crushgauntlets are complete
Added 2 new ab sections
New shoulder plate
Rank ropes for MMCC
** There are more on my Mypsace page... myspace.com/jaingskirata **
AWESOME!!!! I love the rock crushing!!! that is so cool!!!
AH! ITS COOOOOL! You are totally invisible in a few of those pics! AMAZING JOB!
Here are some pix of me at SDCC.
I made a few changes to the kit for SDCC.
1. Mirrored green visor
2. left side side swing RF/aiming reticle
3. red Journeyman's Protector girthbelt
4. dropped the pauldron
5. added left shoulder plate
6. moved right chest ammo pouch onto left shoulder plate.
I want to get out and do another photoshoot soon with these changes. I'm also going to play with my brown flightsuit underneath to see how that looks so once my Neo is done and I attend 4 day events for all 4 days, I can maybe throw an alternate look out there for A'den, tan flighsuit one day brown another.
Possible future changes... thinking about thigh plates and possiblechanging the webgear belt, pouches and holsters to leather. These are not priorties and will come after the Neo is done, if at all.
Well, I made some upgrades to my kit and finally got around to doing pix today. Here's the list...
1. Skirata Sigil on chest, Applicant Approval Team sigil on left shoulder
2. New kama
3. Added elbows
4. New knee's
5. Thigh plates
6. Repainted the cod armor
7. All straps, except leather straps on greaves, have been concealed in the suit.
I think that's it... lol!
Like what you did with the knees Aden. Looks real good
Ca-Loar(Variant) Mando Merc
Great Job I wish you could give me some armor making tutorials that dont require metalworking although they give the best results
Nice additions to your kit A'den... Congrats!!!!
i went to phoenix this past weekend to attend the fiesta bowl parade and go to a mandalorian bbq/photoshoot. here are some pix of my armor in it's most current form. if youd like to see more pix from the parade and photoshoot, check my myspace and facebook pages.
Ah!! Beautiful!!! Nice backdrop too.
Is that a DE-10 in the last pic? I have two still waiting for me to get them finished!
yup, that's one of ick'tans de-10's
The Kryat helmet looks awesome with your armor.
A'den I love that new Krayt bucket with your armor... it really sets off the whole kit! Saz's craftsmanship combined with yours = awesome!
Here are some more changes to the kit.
awesome dude... and the shoulder bells look a lot better now that they're fitted properly!
Wow.You are a walking tank now aren't ya?
I've said it before and I'll say it again;
The skill and creativity of our custom mando members is absolutely astonishing! great job!
I realy like the studs and chainmail.
ok, in the first few pictures am i right that that is a mirrored visor? I am wanting to do that for my build please tell me how or where?
My brother and I went out to the desert last weeked to field test some upgrades to our kits. here are some new pix of mine. i photod both with my krayt dragon helmet and my new assassin helmet. i also changed ut all my nylon gear for leather...
........ Lucky you and your camo....... Mines on its way too being white, fitting for canada eh?
Wow, I havent posted in this thread in quite awhile! I'm not even going to try and play catch up with all the changes from then til now. I will post up some pix of how the armor currently looks. It is full Legacy style armor now. There are still a few changes to be made which should be done sooner rather than late (kne'ss, shoulders, gaunts, perhaps backplate). Here it is...
