my first plastic scratchbuild

I posted e few moths ago that i made a cardboard bucket and that i was going to make one out of plastic. here are the pics of my progress so far. It's made of an army innerhelmet and two "real"buckets. The Helmet makes the dome a bit high but it will be a custom so i don't mind.

you're all welcome to comment. (please do, I'm learning as I'm going)

Looks good. Bet the helmet's suspension is far more comfortable than using foam padding.

As you said, the dome high, something that happens any time an existing helmet is used as the dome. The only real way to combat it, is heavy modification to the original, chopping off the lower rim of the helmet.

yea the dome is farily high i wouldnt try and fix, the problem being that if you do cut off the lower rim its going to change the width of it and it prolly wont fit your helemt anymor just making your problems worse in my opinion. its your first plastic build any first build is supposed to be a learning excperiance, so dont sweat it.

@tK227: for the "cheeks" i first tried thin plastic, but i couldn't make them fit. With my cardboard helmet i didn't have any problem with the "cheeks" so I used thick cardboard and it worked fine.

Progress report: I bondo'd the cheeks and will be sanding them in to shape soon.
But first i have to remove a tree out of the garden before it collapses into the shed.

No pics as the batteries of my digicam are spent.

short progress report; found an earpiece at the hardware store, at least something i'm going to use as an earpiece. got it basecoated and sanded and am putting it on my helmet as we speak. slill needs a bit of bondo round the earpiece and than i can start the paint job. still not shure what colors i'm going to use.

new progress report, started painting. First a Silver coat to make the helmet look metal. masked some area's for weathering and painted those areas with a color that isn't in my final paintjob to suggest a repaint of the helmet somewhere in his history.

started painting last night, the dome and the cheecks. And guess what.... I dropped it. Theres sand stuck to the dome now and I have to sand it all over again. O well It keeps me off the street.
