Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
are you going to be pink?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Its going to be pink around the helmet and white armor with pink designs.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Did you have much trouble removing the range finder and other parts from the helmet ?
I guess it is true that real Mandos eat Ramen noddles :)
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
welcome to TDH
good start
are you going to have any add ons? example-cloak/kama/bandolier
and are you going to change something with the armor or the helmet to make it a different design from everyone else?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
nice start. you will ahve to cut out the bottom part of the helmet visor section to get your visor installed....
skirts are for girls...or clones!
:D
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
The range finder came off pretty easy with a flat head screwdriver. Its going to resemble a basic mando but i'm going to have my own designs and possibly a mini skirt. I want to make a belt and holster for my pink guns. I kept the piece in the visor to keep its shape. Does anyone know where i can get some pink Mythosaur skull decals?? THANKS!!
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Great start so far. I started with a DP96 myself. Yours looks to have a great shape to it. Great choice by filling in the lettering in the back, and ordering a bobamaker visor, I did the same as well. Try Lucksy31, he may be able to help with the decal
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Welcome and great progress so far. It's great to have more Fem Mandos! By the way, do your dishes!:lol

thats definately different.

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
You should fill in the dent on the helmage, if your goin custom design it looks a bit unoraginal with the boba dent . this is just my opinian...
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Welcome to the board Tiffany. :cheers
Looks like you are off to a good start. I would have to agree, however, no need to keep the original BF dent for a custom.
Did you already do some sketches of what you are going for? Those are always inspirational. Can't wait to see more progress.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Thanks everyone. I thought about filling in the dent but kind of liked the way it looked. No sketching, just playing it by ear. My boyfriend is pretty good at helping me.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Great job :thumbsup I can not wait to see how it well look when weathered and the battle damage is painted.
For your decal ,have you thought of making a stencil to paint it so the "pink" is the same as on your helmet and armor?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Nice paint job! It looks really clean.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
you should try to get a pink-ish tinted visor! that would look crazy!! :)
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Oh yeah, thats a must. I want to put some pink designs on the chest armor and I'm looking for a fabric of some sort to make a skirt to match the pink.
....
Thanks! hah i got very OCD when i was masking off the helmet. Im an artists so its in my bloody to be anal retentive.
....
A pink tinted visor would be sweet! I never thought of that.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
That looks totally awesome....can't wait to see the whole thing....keep us posted.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
You should definitely look up Barbie Fett. Your concepts seem to be similar. Good luck.
Now dirty that bucket up, it's way too clean. ;^D
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
And for the record let me just say that pink spray paint in a satin finish is hard to come by. REALLY hard. As in Manhattan had no idea what I was talking about lol.

Yeah i did check out her pictures on flickr. They look great! I do plan to dirty it up some when its all done. I have actually been looking all over the web for more armor parts and I think I am going to mix and match armor pieces from different costumes. I'm thinking about doing a Imperial Biker Scout back and biceps and maybe add some stormtrooper accessories. I dont know though. Just an idea. :)

it's like a cute pink version of dengar! :)

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Chicks and bondo....that is cool
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
I couldn't resist but to put some kill stripes on the helmet. This is probably one of those examples of a beautiful mistake. I masked with mustard (which is yellow and my helmet is white) DUH!? For some reason I didn't think it would stain, but it did. At first I was pissed but after looking at it for a minute I thought it was actually a really nice complement to the helmet.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...r/DSCF4744.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...r/DSCF4745.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...r/DSCF4747.jpg
I will probably use the mustard to continue staining a faint yellow when i do more stripes throughout the body armor. What do you all think???? But beware anyone who doesn't want the yellow haha. mustard stains!
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
p.s. the camera doesn't do the colors justice. the yellow stain is actually a lot nicer in person. really nice light yellow. i think the flash washed out a lot of it.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Welcome to the Dented Helmet, ner vod.
Nice buy'ce progress so far, and I like the yellow ^.^
Keep up the sweet work,
-Naas
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
honestly, i love the pink and white. but i'm that guy that has a pink xbox controller just so i can tell people on halo 3 that they got killed by a dude with a pink controller. it's better than corpse humping!
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
I like your color choices.
Do you plan to use a "metal" colors for the scar, dent and battle damage?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
I really like what you got so far! That's so cool! I like the scratch/cut you put on the front. I'm pumped to see more progress pics :D
:skull El1te

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
No more yellow! I decided to paint over the mustard stains... I like making rash decisions.
As for the scar, yes I was thinking about painting it in silver. I'll post more pictures later this weekend.
Its my boys birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUNJEDIRUN!!! <3

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Looks pretty good so far. Are you gonna do 2 color weathering?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
I'm going to mix some light browns, dark browns and some blacks.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Looking pretty cool. I can't wait to see it weathered up a bit. Too clean! I've been following your BF's Jango progress and am digging it. Did watching him go through it make you want one for yourself? Welcome to the sickness once you start this it's hard to slow down.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Thanks man. Yeah I can't wait to weather it. I have been watching/helping Phil, it looks like a lot of fun!! He talked me into starting a a Fem Mando and promised me I could paint it pink so I was all about it. Its a good use of my time. I love doing it!
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
couldn't resist the pinstripes! hand painted some metal scratches. Hitting it with a clear coat tomw then weathering. Done for the night.

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
may have been asked already. but.
you ARE going to put in a real visor right?
edit: ok i saw you said youd cut the piece out. is the visor long enough ie: its behind that piece?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Something you may wanna consider when applying the topical weathering is using an artists sponge to create a scuffed effect. I found that with topical weathering, it looks much more realistic then trying to hand paint it on.
So far so good! =)
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
hopefully we finish tonight!

Yeah, I ordered the Bobamaker visor and hardware so it fits the dp96 perfectly. I just wanted to wait to put it in last.

Thanks! I do plan to do the weathering with a sponge and wipe away the excess method. I plan to finish it up tonight so hopefully I will have some pics to post.

It's Hot Pink on the visor parts
Black on the upper cheeks & back

You got the decals already. :skull
When you mentioned the Mythosaur skull, I looked it up to see what variations turned up and I found this:

It's a fan-made design, but I thought it was kinda cool. :)

I thought of something that would make your t-visor really stand out. Remember I said something about a pink t-visor? Well how about Pink window film for your BM Visor :)

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
QUESTION... Can anyone tell me how you install the BobaMaker visor, I am having trouble keeping the bolts down. I'm using super glue and they are just popping off.
THANKS!!!
XO

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Use an industrial epoxy. It WILL hold it down and not pop off. I had the same trouble with my visor and the bolts popping off but I fixed it by applying industrial epoxy.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
I put it on with some Devcon Plastic welder so hopefully that holds. thanks!
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
i screw mine directly into the helmet. they will NEVER come off.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
JB weld or JB Quik works wonders too, its a two part glue and it holds really really well. So if that doesnt work, just use the stuff i mentioned. Take care and good luck.
Great progress so far!!!
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
i have been struggling with this visor for hours and cant seem to get it to fit in right. anyone have any pics of how they installed their BM visor?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
it looks great , are going to paint the ears? and have you seen those new miror vizors.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
go to ace hardware and find one of the old guys that have been working there since the dawn of time and ask for chicago screws (they're two part screws, one part screw the other a shank the screw threads into). then stop off in plumbing and get some plumbers putty (i find mine at walmart). when you get home figure out where all the anchor points are going through the visor, i.e. drill some holes through the visor (make them a kinda long, so you have a little room for adjusting. then mark the spot on the inside of the helmet, put a small ball of the putty on each of the spots then set the shank into the putty.
disclaimer: i used just the putty to hold the visor into my sgt fang helmet, but i plan on using this described technique when i get around to doing my ms3. i have no idea how well it will work with the dp material. but i did use it to hold snaps to sintra tabs and it holds incredibly well to that. (then i gooped the snap-tab to the inside of the armor)

Thanks, but it's not mine. :o I just found it by looking looking up "Mythosaur" pics on google! :thumbsup
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
I always just hot glue the visors in :)
That being said, there are a couple of things that can bite you. If the inside of the helmet isn't nice and smooth, it won't sit right.
If the visor is shaped a bit differently than the helmet, you may get some gaps. I've never really been worried about those myself. I don't think the originals were installed perfectly either. A minor gap will just let more air in, which is a Good Thing.

Thanks a lot. The inside of the DP is really bumpy and weird so hopefully it sits right. im gonna try the plastic welder again too.

Thanks a lot for the pic! i don't need any nuts in between the shank and the screw?
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
hot glue works awesomely. it shoudl be able to help you out till you can find a more perminant solution.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
i'd like to post a correction to my previous post. my technical jargon was incorrect. but i was kinda tired when i posted that: it's a t-bolt and shank. with the shank being the actual screw part, and the the t-bolt what it screws in to. please accept my apologies for any confusion my previous post may have caused.
i feel like a newspaper that needs to print a retraction for mis-quoting some celebrity talking trash about anoher celebrity.
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
Good thing you printed that correction...you should see how they are eviscerating the guy with the FX recast Stormtrooper Helmet...:lol
-
Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
You visor may be too curved or not curved enough to sit flush on the inside. If this is the case just heat the visor and give it more/less curve. I used a kerosene heater to heat mine, the first one I did, didn't have enough curve, the second had too much.
-

You can use chicago screws, trust me... I've done three helmets now with chicago screws and they work great.
You won't need any nuts, but what I did was went to the plumbing section in Walmart or Home Depot, and pick up a package of kitchen faucet washers. They're either made of very hard rubber or plastic. Use those as the spacers to snug the visor down, like this...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...e/IMG00359.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...e/IMG00363.jpg

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...e/IMG00113.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...e/IMG00114.jpg
To glue everything in, I used a two part epoxy that I found in the automotive section... it's typically used to repair plastic and fibreglass bumpers. Works like a charm, and hasn't pulled out yet! ;)

Re: My Fem Mando Progress (pics)
ahah! well im glad everyone has interest in my progress, it means a lot.
I pretty much finished the helmet. I ended up hot glueing the visor in place, I don't think its going anywhere. I did go to the hardware store and asked them about chicago screws and he looked at me like an idiot :(
Thanks again for all the advice and help!

I tried that once. My wife just looked at me funny, felt my forehead whilst asking me if I felt alright. She kinda left me alone after I explained that the "boob-plate" was for her to wear, not me.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for my doctors apointment for my "barking issues"... stupid mailman. ;)
