    my custom heavy mando

mkai. i decided to start a new thread on my armor progress since my previous one was... well a bit messy. it also gives me the oppertunity to properly introduce it, and myself.

i am 18 years old and live in Norway (Viking power!)and have been a star wars geek all my life. i also love baldur's gate and Metallica and i hope to implement some of that into my armor. this will be my first ever armor, infact probably my first costume aver too i spent some weeks looking through this forume looing at you peoples most impressive work before i decided that i wanted to take my own direction, meaning a more "heavy" mando look.

    some thing like this:

all though at this point im considering dark grey instead of white.

i also want to make all the holster/backpack/other fancy pockets and whatnot of leather. just so it want look to cloney

i have decided on a helmet design, although i have no idea of how to make it yet (help is welcomed)

    and...

sorry about the cuality, they are hand-drawn and i used my phone to just take a pic of it.

will put out some pics on how far iv actually gotten as soon as i can

Looks pretty good for your start. Is that PVC weld your using? Since you are going with full enclosure, might I suggest using piano hinges to make your armor open and close easier?

I must say that is really cool. The mando/clone look really seems to suit you.

May I ask where you got these. Because I am looking to something like that for my own mandalorian armor. I think they look good.

Good job and keep up the good work. I can't wait to see the finished product.

actually i made those myself from scratch out of the oransje PVC Pipes (just asked a local hardwarestoe if they had some leftovers). i first made the bracers then taped some sheets ov paper or cardboard on them to measure the length and add the shape i wanted. then i transfered that pattern on to the PVC pipes and cut them out. finally i heated up the PVC shapes and shaped them to fit the bracers (what aver you call it, the armor on your forearm).

    Re: my custom mando, WIP

ok so iv started the scratch build cardboard bucket. i use a thicker carboard than Antman used (all hail that Tutorial!!) however so far it works splendidly. this is what iv done today in i am quite happy bout it, but i have one question. the edge that iv marked with red, is it supposed to be there? the rest of the "rim" that goes around back looks perfeckly fit

    and...

haha this is just the sink i used to dip the entire structure in. i needed the cardboard to be completely soaked in order for it to bend properly

    Try something like this:

    http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46539

You can get them with a black tint, and they work REALLY well. I made several helmets using visors from T-visors.com and then did a couple more with these. They work just as well as the $25.00 ones from T-visors.

    Re: my custom heavy mando

darian ordo over at mando mercs uses a chainmail hood. we've roundtabled chainmail over there over and over. the general consensus was the time involved in making it vs the protective ability combined with the fact that really no known star wars characters use it, it should be used sparingly. we don;t like to tell our members they can't use something, although on some things we must, we would rather ask for heavy mods or limited use so as not to stifle creativity. based on known star wars canon and eu, it would seem that most of the protective undersuits worn by various troopers/warriors in the swu would offer similar protection as chainmail.

all that said, i think if you used it sparingly with your heavy concept or as a dressing, say a kama, it would look great. i use it sparingly on my ggloves and gauntlets.

great build btw, i've been watching it's progress. really dig the helmet although it has a heavy clone feel to me, probably bcause of the "mouth" area.

    keep up the good work!

jup that was my fears as well, that no known star wars charackter has used chain mail. i still dont know

hehe the clone/mando cross was intentional. my friend called it the missing link:P

ahem... it would seem i am was stupid enough to get a job couple of weeks ago and thus havents been able to work on my beskar as much as i want to. this is what little i have done and photographed (i also have a shin ready to paint, attached the smaller plates on the chest and started on a backback)

the new chin design, or "box" still requires my attention with paint and anlso some vents or lits. the range finder just needs the black "visor" for the slits, and i still need a preferably dark green visor

RF up the "hose thingy" still needs paint and some fillerwork.

Dude you have gone so far with this costume. I am most impressed with the time and work you have put into this costume. Definitly worth watching for. Favorite part is the helmet hands down.

Have to go with Lev'ika on this one... I prefer scheme #1. If I were to draw it for u... it'd proally be similar to that. That pattern looks pretty good.

I hope its not going to be one of those buckets where its hard to see out of because of all the stuff put on the side and possibly in front of it!

Holy ****! this is going to turn out to be one of those suits that actually scare people who see you in it. You've definitely got some heavy metal influences in there. And vikings rock. When you finish you should do another bucket that has some kind of horns on it lol.

Keep up the great work man!

thansk again guys. so far iv had no problems seeing out of it, all the "things" from the range finder just blurs up and is almost invisible.

oh and a viking themed mando would be awesome! with lots of chain mail and a vibro axe

I noticed the piece on the bottom of the visor, kinda like a chin guard or something. Is there a template for that? If so could someone PM me. Cause it would be a bloody waste to custom fab that out of aluminum and find out there are templates. Haha, thanks

You might get a headache from looking through the different colored lenses.
I get one every time I've worn a TK helmet that has a green lens on one side and a scar/cut in the helmet to look through on the other side.

    Re: my custom heavy mando

hi yall. started meddling with my old beskar that i never finished :P new ideas and designs. feels good to be working on it again

    bes-2-whole.jpg teen-pic-1.jpg bust-flash.jpg

    bes-3-close.jpg bes-r-shoulder.jpg

ok so i ordered a belt with puches and a boba fett armor plate package from ebay. Cut the cod piece as you can see in teh pics. the white new lower circular form on the chest plate is actually the collar piece, and the lower abdominal (just above the belt) is the butt piece. attached the diamond on the right shoulder piece, and the middle shoulder pieces you can see is from the original Fett chest pieces. using the original back plate and abdominal plate. planning for original knee pads

still waiting for a black visor.
