Marrow Sun's Custom Progress

a techincal question. what is your process for making changes to the underlying helmet. Are you adding bondo then carving/sculpting it?

For most of the face area and the top raised detail I did use bondo jelly and regular bondo. I use 1/8th painters tape to mask my rough shape, build up the shape with the bondo and when it dries I sand it out and then use a razor knife to carve in the detail. Alot of the shapes are started with thin styrene or MDF and then bondo is applied on and around.
LOTS of sanding is involved.(n)
Hope that helps.:)

Thank you for the insight,

while it is off topic, I am making some fiberglass saddlebags for my sport bike and wanted to get the layering effect, I will try your approach.

**August 19th** Just a quick update. I've only had a couple spare hours all week to tinker with the helmet. More setbacks than work accomplished. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have the back of the helmet done. I'll be leaving out any detailed greeblies to make the casting procedure easier.

Holy Asterisks! That looks incredible!

The back is stunning, I also love the little gills on the sides too. Little details like that make it look awesome. You're a crazy individual Marrow Sun!

Marrow....didn't see this in the thread, but what kind of materials are you sculpting this out of?
Mostly bondo jelly, MDF and styrene. I try to avoid the plastics as much as possible as I don't have a lot of luck with the bondos adhering to them properly. MDF is your friend:D

That is outstanding work --- they the military should by these for all soldiers in the M/E -- it would definitely scare the SH*T out of the insurgents! I believe you should get some type of award for the best mod out there -- that helmet is unique....

The more I look at this helmet, the more I absolutely love it!! You have rekindled inspiration for a custom Mandalorian. My first one was 5 years ago. So much has changed regarding the custom Mandos since then.

It'll be fun! :) ;)
