Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
*** THIS LINE ADDED*** Okay folks, I just want to say... before u read on, check the egos at the door for this, it's for everyone to have fun and live a healthier, happier lifestyle. I know that I am one of those who needs to do an ego check, and I will do my best, I just ask that everyone else do the same and have fun with this!***THIS LINE ADDED***
Okay guys... I know a lot of us are not real happy with our level of physical fitness, I've been toying with this idea for a while now and since I got P90X and another fitness test coming up... I figured this is the perfect time. SO... I'm challenging all of u vode to be the best mando u can be, to go above all, become one of the few and the prode vode an... live life like an adventure (ok I'm out of military recruiting slogans). I'm going to challenge all vode to meet the MINIMUM scores for the US Air Force's current (not the new one that will be in effect 1 Jan 10) fitness test. It is a three event test with the following requirements, to achieve a passing score of 75% one must:
1. 33 Push Ups in 1 minute
2. 40 Sit Ups in 1 minute
3. 1.5 mile run in 12 minutes 30 seconds.
4. Abdominal Circumfrence of < 45 inches
Points are on a graduated scale... meaning more pushups/situps equals longer run time to pass. I'll even go out on a limb and share my scores as of my last fitness test, almost a month ago.
1. 55 Pushups (7 from maximum points)
2. 55 Situps (maximum points)
3. 12:15 min/sec 1.5 mile run
4. 30.5 inch abdominal circumfrence
My goal for the next test is 65 Pushups, 60 Situps, 10:30 run and maintain my 30.5 abdominal. My challenge for you is to set a goal... and meet it! I'm going to be posting my progress on a sort of regular basis here... I'd like to see some other vode join in!
***EDIT***
Ok here's the ROE:
1. Take the AF Fitness test... Perform standard pushups for 1 min and record your number; rest 5 min; perform standard situps (arms across your chest, not behind your head) for 1 min, record your number; rest 5 min; now run 1.5 miles and time your run, record your number; measure your waist 3 times to get abdominal circumfrence and record the average.
2. Report your numbers. Make a post here just like I did and report your scores.
3. Set a goal based on your score and work out to improve your score.
4. Start from Step 1 and work all the way back through. Test yourself approximately twice each month or every two weeks.

(I like the sound of this!)
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge

Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
well, the wifey has me going to the gym, but right now I'm trying to clean this poodoo hole of a house we live in.
I will attempt to lose weight since my white mando wont look too good with a keg under the armor :b
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
71? wow! My norm is about 55-60... altho there is a guy in my flight who did 92 on his last fitness test... 62 is maximum score! 55 situps is maximum ten points for pushups, ten for situps, and I think 8:36 or 9:36 is maximum scoring runtime at 50 points. As for abdominals <32.5 inches = max points at 30 points.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
im going to do the situps right away :D
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
he he adonian I know the feeling... my house is a mess too and we're gettin' ready to move! lol I'm definately starting my running back up tomorrow tho and P90X to kick my shebs into gear... it works, it really does and We've had sooo many airmen (and back in ROTC, cadets) who were able to make drastic improvements in how they looked and felt by using P90X or... by simply trying to pass their PFT every time. Back in ROTC we tested every 8 weeks, on active duty we test once a year, and when changing duty stations or beginning/completing any training. So... I've tested 4 times already this year! lol
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
not to mention your wife will be VERY happy with the results ;)
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
alright 50 in a minute :D
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
not bad lev'ika... already beatin' my score! lol

Wait...you're starting P90X and you plan on running 3 miles per day?? Dude....
Those 3 miles are gonna be hell if you try to do them after Day 2: Plyometrics. That is one tough son of a gun. I'm in week 2 and just did my second day of Plyo and I gotta tell you, it burns. And my first day and for two days afterwards, my legs were toast. Today was easier, tho.
Keep it up! Do your best, and.... (you'll know the rest of it soon enough.) :)
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
lol thanx for the info! I have to get my run time WAAAYYY down in order to get the job I want, I still have about 2 more years before I'm eligible but... now's the time to start getting ready. I'm doin' the P90X because we used to use it for PT sessions back in ROTC and it kicked my butt... my wife wants to get into better shape so we're both going to work hard to get fit... It's kinda important in my line of work! lol

Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Through my NJROTC experience; if we did something wrong the hit on it was 10 push up or more. Truly it depended on how bad we did and what we did. But when I went in the Physical Fittness test with the NJROTC I was able to perform at least 65 sit-ups and around 14 push ups. Lets just say I have no upper body strength to do push ups LOL! I was lucky enough to go this far and get that number.
However, during drill practice I would look over from the Un-armed drill team and watch the armed dril team handle ten pound rifles and do push ups with those rifle along with it. Overall I think they did around thirty maybe fourty push ups with those rifles. And not only that but they had to have a strong upper-body strength just to do those things which I could not even do.
But maybe if I exercise more maybe just maybe I could do all that stuff in a minute.

:lol:lol:lol My soccer coach last year had us doing 400 pushups in a 2.5 hour practice...that was brutal...
Now that I'm no longer playing team soccer, I'm doing 100 pushups/100 situps/ 20 pullups on alternating nights.
I'm in for this Kal'ika. I've never timed myself except on the running bit...5 minute mile. :D 11 minute 2 mile. :doh:cry gotta get that time down...
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
lol I have a 11 min 1.5 mile A'den so ur ok by my book! lol As for the "NJROTC experience" I'm glad they're still doing physical discipline at your school CC! At Field Training I had the priviledge of doing a LOT of PD... 400 pushups, arm circles, butterfly/bicycle kicks, in a day were not unheard of. I know how the 10 lb rifles feel, been there done that. BTW... for future reference throwing the words "JROTC experience" out around active duty military and Senior ROTC ppl is not always well received, although I do try to be tolerant since u have such a cool project and seem like a pretty cool kid.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Not trying to bash on JROTC btw... it's a good, positive thing for HS kids... keeps 'em out of trouble and teaches them the value of leadership, that being said... back to the topic at hand. Ran my 3.5 miler today in 28 min even! dropped out 50 pushups and 55 situps... need to work on that still!
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Score on that one, Kal. Count me in. I've been slacking since I was discharged. I need to get back into shape. I'm headed off to work in a few hours (ugh, I hate overnight shifts), but I'll start in the morning before bed.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
ok. I'll try this. Keep in mind, please, that I'm not so young anymore. I should be in somewhat decent health. I'll try in the morning, and let you all know.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Shuk'Om I'll be honest I've been slacking a lil here lately, but since I'm getting ready to transfer I thought it's a good time to start getting back into top shape. Also, I really want that ALO job so I need to be extremely fit.
lol understood Bren! I'm just pushing people to set a goal for themselves and do their best. Good hunting!
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Staff Sergeant Maxamillian Shipton reporting sir! (That's my official rank, sir).
I haven't done this muych physical activity since training but hey, lets do it!
*salutes British-style*
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
lol hadn't done as much as I am now since basic myself... but I am bound and determined to get my ALO slot! lol I still have 2 yrs before I'm eligible but I figure now is a great time to start working on it. BTW... 2Lt, USAF. Glad to have ya joinin' us Pacx!
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Every time is a good time to get fit, sir!
You planning to be a pilot, then? Or, eh, something else USAF related?
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
nah I'm aircrew but not a pilot, I'm lookin' into a more ground oriented job tho that works with the army a lot.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
A'den K. reporting in at 60 pushups in a minute and 63 situps. *smart salute*
...gotta get that situp number up...:doh
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Pacx here, reporting in at around 40-45 pushups and exactly 75 sit-ups. I'm better at sit ups, because during basic we used to have to tone up the stomach most of all. We all had mini-6 packs by the end of the 3 years!
-Iblix, Reg. 811-720.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Hmm not bad pacx, not bad at all... Okay here's my update on my score. Ran a 2 miler this morning (formation run) with the rest of the wing in rememberence of 11 Sep 01 (moment of silence...) As for the practice PFT i ran today... in order: 55 pushups, 57 situps, 12:25 1.5 mile run. Executive decision was made to wait until next monday to start P90X so that we're working out 5 days and resting on weekends... my plan was to rest on days I had to go to Squadron PT, oh well! lol 2 days off and back to my 3 mile runs again on monday... REALLY need to drive that run time down.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
ok, i'm the pathetic one. At 37 years old and a smoker since I was a kid (around 9) I guess it could have been worse. Everyone ready to laugh? Here goes:
push ups: 34 sit ups: 17 1.5 run: 20.03
And I'm a skinny 31"
Man, I really gotta get back in shape.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
hey that's okay! The point is to set a goal and work toward it. I'd say a good goal for you might be... 40/40/18:00 for now, but that's just a suggestion
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
I tend to find smelling like a brewery always improved my PT scores....
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
I'll jump on board here in a day or two... I have been hitting the gym and dropped 15 Lbs of fat and toned and firmed my body quite a bit so I am happy that I am seeing results :)
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge

Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Did a 41 minute jog round the village, then some push ups, 35 i think... not so sure. Must remember to count. Some sit ups, no figure. Lost count half way through :D

Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
he he it's ok Pacx, I keep forgeting to count too... I'll be halfway through my workout then remember I'm supposed to be going for score! lol
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Same routine every day for me - 41 minute jog, then some aerobic work, then muscle workout.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
sounds like a good routine to me!
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
W00t! Keep it up vode. Kudos for starting this kal'ika, btw. I won't be joining cos I'm already on two different soccer teams and couldn't be more in shape. Good luck to all of you! :)

YES!!! Best way to get in shape!!! Ord'ika, that is awesome!!! I miss doing that...
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
gotta admit soccer is a great way to stay fit! I love being on a soccer team :D
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
lol yeah... some of us don't have that option! I'm already required to go to PT 3 days a week, but... I have to help my wifey get into shape too so that's an extra 5 days worth of PT, and... I need to get my run time down so... that's a lot of PT I need to do! lol
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Okay guys... quick update... the wifey twisted her knee out of socket Monday... so I got the week off from P90X... had a killer schedule this week with a lot of EARLY mornings and very LATE evenings at work... which means I didn't get to run at all this week :( . I did however manage to squeeze in a few dozen pushups and situps each day... depending on IF I actually got to take a lunch and how long I got. Today and yesterday I wasn't even able to eat lunch thanks to my mission schedule. Oh well... too bad I'm not trying to lose weight! lol Anyhow... stats are still the same pretty much. 50/55/12:00
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Ok time to do a quick bump up... thanks to the work schedule, haven't had time to work out the last 2 weeks (except my normal pushups/situps at night). Tried a mock PFT and didn't do any better than normal. 55/55/12:00 for my scores on this one, sorry I'm slacking, been kinda busy. Anybody else doing anything out there? Any progress anywhere?
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
sorry vod! Besides the casual fitness test at school, ive got nuthin :(
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
he he I know the feeling... I've been so busy at work, they keep scheduling me for early missions, then canx'n the flight or just taking me off of the flight... I did however cram 4 flights into last week, not including the cancellations/reschedules so...lol I promise guys I will hit the P90X up good after graduation, until then it's kinda hit/miss.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
This might be kind of a random question but...... Whats it feel like to fly? Ive always wondered that :D
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
I love it! except for takeoff and landing... those can be a lil rough on the internals. The planes I get to fly in are very much so like airliners, big and bulky, you don't really feel a whole lot of it except for when they go into hard turns or they are taking off/landing. The smaller planes that I have flown in are much more fun though. You feel a lot more of the flight, you experience a lot more. If you're actually doing the flying (which is even more fun!) you can feel the vibration of the aircraft through the yoke or stick (depending on the system) and you can feel the wind resistance in the controls as you try to turn the plane. Some planes are more fun than others, but the Mitsubishi Mu-2s that I have flown in here are more fun than the Cessna 172 and Piper-Cherokee 140s that I have flown in the past. Twin engine vs Single engine I guess. Most of what you feel though is unusual to say the least, some people can't handle it and puke, but I actually enjoy flying.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
okay vod you have me for the sit-ups and the run can't do the push-ups do to my up close and personal encounter with a bullet in Iraq, my sternum never healed correctly.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
I have to admit im terrified of heights! but i want to get on a plane someday :D Whats your plan after you graduate? (if you dont mind me asking)

Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Yeppers 82nd airborne Vod.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
I might hop in and test myself at some point. I'm in Week 5 of P90x and have gone from 205 down to 187 in the five weeks. And on chest days we do a boatload of pushups and sick ab work every other day. The run would be difficult at first, since the program gets most of its cardio from Kenpo and Plyometrics. But I'm willing to bet I could come close to 14:00 at worst.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
@ Jason: Dude much respect to you ner vod... in my eyes you're something we don't have a word for in mando'a... a hero. Glad to see u joining in vod, don't worry about the pushups... I'll do 'em for ya ner vod!
@ Lev'ika: Plans are actually to continue my career progression, I have to go to a fulltime flying squadron for a few years, not sure which one I'm going to yet since all 3 for me are at Tinker AFB, OK. Eventually plan to get an ALO spot and go back home to Jason's rival unit... the 101st Air Assault out of Fort Campbell, KY.
@Martigan: Yeah P90X is rough... that's why I'm using it! Glad to year good results ner vod! We'll call it a success story! The run is difficult because of the exact distance... most people can do 1 mile easily, and 2 miles comfortably... but 1.5 miles is a range that is just far enough to push you past the happy 1 miler, and too short to allow you to get into that comfortable 2 mile distance, in short... it hurts! lol
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
I usually max out the test. I am taking it on Sunday but this old MSgt is having reconstructive knee surgery on Tues and spinal injections in two weeks. Years of running and gunning has taken its toll. I still think I can max it out though...just too old and set in my way s to just lie down and die yet...
BTW Tinker isn't so bad...its where I am stationed...
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Really?!! Awesome! May have to look u up when I get out there Boomer... what squadron r u with? I'm going to the 552nd Control Squadron for a while, and then I PCA to another one of the flying squadrons out there. Haven't maxed the fitness test since I was in ROTC tho... had some issues my junior year that kept me out of the PT program for almost a whole semester and it messed me up big time. I'm working my tail off to get back in shape!
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Sweet! I am in the 507th ARW. We are the reserve wing on the other side of the base. I am the Law Office Sup. I gave up flyin back in 96 after I managed 3600 hrs and most of it combat time. I usually max it out but time is catchin up with me...We will definitely hook up when you get here. This is a GREAT place to live.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Good call on having everyone take a close look at their fitness level. I have seen too many bloated Mando'ad in photo galleries of the Cons...
I'm a recently retired (medically - I became diabetic) from 14 years of active duty in the Army...Airborne Infantry, including Op Iraqi Freedom. Since I am not doing normal PT anymore, I started crossfit. Actually my girlfriend is a hardcore crossfit chick and almost complete being a personal trainer. Those of you who don't want to pony up and get the P90X DVDs (or bootleg them off bittorrent), Google crossfit and give it a shot. Very minimal equipment and the main site posts all the WODs (workout of the day). Crossfit is very Mando'ad in my mind. As one last comment on all this, don't forget to shape up your diets as well! Maybe be brave and do the Zone (like weight watchers) or Paleo (straight caveman style diet) diets, or at least watch your carbs and cut out the garbage. I doubt Boba would pollute his body with trash!!
Oh & PS Jason_strk.... Airborne All the way!! 173rd (Your Italian red-headed step brother)

A primary reason for starting this ner vod.
BTW... thanks for your service! I really appreciate everything you guys who've served have done, things I'll never have the opportunity (and hopefully some things I'll never HAVE to do). You guys are truely heroes (I know there's no word for hero in mando'a) to me. I only hope that my service honors everything you guys have stood/still stand for. Thanks vode, I will try my best to live up to the high standard we should hold ourselves to everyday as professional warriors.
As for some statistics... I ran a nice, pleasant 12 min 1.5 today... a full 30 seconds faster than normal, kept running after that and lost track of distance, made a total of 45 min tho and I wasn't suffering for it. I think perhaps next time I run I'll try to actually wear myself out and see what I can do.
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
Great job, ner vod! Running is totally all about conditioning. The more you do it, the better you will be no matter what. I would love to get myself back in my 2001-2006 fitness level. I was stationed in Italy from 2001-2003 and we frequently ran 12.5 miles in less than 1 hour 15 minutes up the Monte Bericho hill. Fun times, lol.
Seriously look into this crossfit thing my girlfriend turned me onto. It's pretty hardcore and it's scaled to your ability. Last Saturday I did the Fight Gone Bad workout (3 rounds, 1 minute per exercise - box jumps, push presses @ 45lbs., rowing, wall ball tosses {20lbs. 12 ft. high}, sumo deadlift high pulls @ 75 lbs.; for 1 point per rep) I was pretty stoked getting 367!
-
Re: Mando Pride Fitness Challenge
wow! That's a pretty impressive work out!
Okay vode... I need to ask a favor, it's time for me to play the vode an card. I am going to be gone for a few weeks... 28 days to be exact and I need somebody to make sure this thread stays active. I will try to stay in touch, but can't be sure if I'll have internet access where I'm going. Somebody want to volunteer to be the thread bumper?

Count me in, I'm a former army dog and refuse to believe I can't pass an Air force PT test :P( just joking on the last part) but I have felt WAY out of shape since getting my walking papers a few years ago, and I always have an excuse to NOT do something about it. but darn it I want to look sweet when I finally get my costume done.

Everyday warm-up = 3x10 push-ups, set-ups, pull-ups, air squats
