MANDALORIAN SUPER COMMANDO W.I.P

I've taken some time to myself the last few days to just have some fun with a helmet. There's still plenty of modifications left to make but I thought I'd start sharing a few pictures of the more completed bucket. I'm going for something a bit more "heavy duty" looking, more of an assult helmet. Quite a bit more finishing has been done since these pictures where taken. I'll probably wait until I start painting before I update again.

The RF, when I figure out what design I'm going with will be on the left side instead. In place of the regular RF, a sensor array of some sort will be added. As for the back,.. well I'm yet to design anything yet. I may leave it as.

I see guys saying they would never waste there money on a fiberglass helmet for a custom but I can assure you you would have a very hard time making any modifications on a rubies or dp, simply because of the material there made from. Its hard to get a good bond with that vinyl material they use.

Anyways enjoy and keep a look out for updates. Feel free to comment and offer creative suggestions.!

I am planning on making somesort of flip down secondary visor or maybe something like the EpIII clone commander binoculars.

Also I have no intention of making copies. I'm going to keep this a limited edition #1 of 1

Definately a cool bucket! Do you plan to post a tutorial that produces similar (not quite exact) results?

Thats a nice looking Fan intake you've got on the right hand side there. lol should keep you nice and cool. Also, If it were me, I'd stick a speaker on the outside where that conical looking thing is on the cheek, and make it like a hollow cap with holes for the sound to get out.

That's looking really cool. If you do decide to change your mind, I think you can probably sign me up too :-D

Just a couple comments. The tab in the middle of the visor ..
First thing i thought of when i seen it was going crosseyed from staring at it all day.

The vent on the right side i think would look better with thinner grill bars and Vader type screening behind it.
Just my .02 cents..

I does have the appearance of a heavier armored helmet. Kinda like a prototype RC helmet.. Perfect for an assault type Mandalorian.

Looking forward to seeing the finished helmet.

Thanks for the imput JGF, I have already cut off the square on the brow I decided against it yesterday. As for the side intake, its too late for me to change since I've already glassed it in place. It does have 2 opposing layers of screening behind it though.

Looks great, Sometimes it's nice to just have someting for yourself! But as others have said, if you do change your mind i'm sure tou will get alot of interest.... Mine included..... Am still very interested in the Fett Pre Pro bucket if that becomes available....

Ok call me a liar! I've decided to give another update. These pictures were taken today, the others were from 3 days ago. Not much has changed, just a few key details have been added. I accually think I will be done tomorrow with only a few electronics and the visor to get installed before painting.

I'm a Boba purist, but I've got to admit, that's the best looking custom I've ever seen,very cool! Well done!

I think I've just soiled my armor.

That is hot! Good job!

Customs aren't my bag. But it doesn't have to be "Your Bag" to
appreciate what an AWESOME piece of work that is !!

JoNich, this is what doing a custom is all about! You can't make anymistakes. You just go with the flow bud! All you need to get started are the basics. Get yourself a fiberglass helmet to experiment with, there's lots of deals around if your patient. Buy a can of bondo glass or bondo jelly, I even use them as my glue. I use MDF and sintra to make up the parts.

Of course the more tools you have access too will determine the complexity of your design but with a dremel and a sander you can get started.

I hope by doing this I can inspire a few guys dive in and let their imaginations loose!

That thing is bad! Definately looks like it fits in the "lived in" Star Wars universe. I can't wait to see it painted up. 8)

Where would one find such items as Bondo Glass or Jelly? I have only seen Bondo Spot Glazing Putty.

Would a fiberglas helmet with all those pieces "glued on" hold up as well as a cast of it? I guess I'm trying to ask...if I make a helmet like so, would I need to cast it for extra sturdyness?

You can find those bondo products at wal-mart for sure in the automotive section. Don't even waste your money on glazing putty.
My helmet is extreamly sturdy. I guess if I were to drop it some pieces might end up broken but that could be said for any helmet. You can also go the route of bolting on pieces.
You have to remember to rough up the sides that will be glued together to ensure a good bond.

I've seen a few custom Mando's that are nothing more then boba's/Jango's painted a diffrent color sceme, while cool in their own right, to me it just doesn't qualify as a "custom".

Please I beg you, If you make a set of armor for yourself for this bad boy, get as creative with the armor layout/patterns as you have with the helmet, Mando's to me all had diffrent unique armor plate patterns, if you look around in the EU at some of the drawings you'll find this.

Here's one.

Not much else I can say about this bucket that hasn't been already said, however it is one of the hottest things I have seen in the Mando universe. I am in the planing stages for one of my own when I get my standard bucket done.

Well I'm pretty much done at this point. The paint does not show up as well as I'd hoped in the photos. It has much more of a blue shine. I started with a silver and platinum base coat. From there I highlighted the details with a transparent metalic blue, after that I blended the blue into the platinum by mixing the blue with clearcoat and airbrushing it on overlaping the highlights. From there is was a simple matter of 4 acrylic washes and voila! Tomorrow I need to install the visor properly.
I'm still working on a binocular that will magnetically fit in place. I've decided agaist the Range Finder because the helmet is "busy" enough at this point, it just doesn't need anymore gizmos.

Thanks for the compliment! I have decided to follow through and complete an entire set of armor to go with the helmet. It will lost likely be more like clone trooper armor than the regular Fett style.

LOVE IT! It looks like a "HIGH TECH KNIGHT"! Has a little bit of that "NECROMUNGER" (spelling?) feel. The LED is also a nice touch, working whatever, somehow always brings props to life, I guess making it feel more reel!

I'd like to see you make a set of armor as I requested, but what will it be made of? ABS Plastic?

I'm sure the bucket will be made out of fiberglass as always. Great job MS, I hope to catch you at ComicCon in San Diego. I hear that there are going to be upwards of 100,000 people there. I'll probably be the ESB Fett with the E-11, I may also be a TK a few days, and maybe a jedi.

I've got long curly hair under the bucket, so I'd be hard to miss!

I should have an armor update on Sunday. I just threw out last weeks work. I had a nearly completed chest piece but I've decided to go with a different design. Up untill now I was too closely following the Republic Commando style. I've decided to scap it all together and start fresh. The new armor will have some definete Fett characteristics built into it.
I do have a completed Ab plate that I've decided to still use at this point.

You won't give me the nearly completed chest armor will you? No seriously.

It had exactly the effect you were expecting.
I'm pretty new here and it sure got my creative juice flowing. So I'll be trying out some of this new inspiration shortly on my own bucket : )

Which is a good thing... my armor design evolved a lot from the design I had in mind when I started drawing it up to now where I started building it... which should be the same with the bucket - I'll try to get that custom "feel", that's all in the armor now, into the helmet.

Made...he's been retired from SW prop making for almost a year.

MS needs to come out of retirement and bring the kind of awesome that only he can bring back. i cherish my MS3 boba deeply even though i did mod it and replaced the dent with an FP.

I suspect that the rest of the costume will never materialise seeing as Novall Talon states he's been gone from the prop making scene for over a year.
