Mandalorian Legion???

A couple of folks I've met here and at HVM and I have been kicking around the idea of creating an organization for Mandalorians, similar to what the 501st is to stormtroopers etc. Not to rival them in any way, but to work with them yet still have our own autonomy. Essentially what we need are folks who are passionate about making a group like this happen, and willing to give a small amount of time helping out in any way you can. Mainly though, we just want your input. So should anyone be interested, feel free to contact me here to talk about it, or go to HVM where we have a thread where we've kicked around some ideas-I'll post a link below...Thanks for your time.

You know it sounds like a good idea, but the problem that I see with having the Legion is that the many members would most likely be decentralized. For instance there are not as many Mandolorians out there as there are people from the rest of the Empire. Now if it could be coordinated with the 501st so that the Mando's could take part in 501st events, but still remain autonomous from the 501st then I think that would work. I am not sure that there is a large group of Mandos that are all geographically located near each other, and if there were then the people who are Mandos and are detached from the main group wouldn't have all that much to do. I really do like the idea, but I think that it would be tough if you didn't have garrisons of mandos that are based on region.

I think this would be awesome, but I have to agree DD. It would be difficult if say 4-5 lived in one area, and 40-50 lived in another. I'm sure that something can be played on to make this work, though.

I also want to know what the requirements are if this goes through.

Sniff, there's already one of those, their called "the bloodhounds."

The leia thing's a good idea, too. The only problem is that I don't look good in a gold bikini.......don't ask how I know.:rolleyes

I don't think this would be a very good idea, we all ready have TDH. I am a member of the 501st and that's where all of my attention goes to. It'd be impossible to get events, there may only be one custom Mando per location and would never get invites to any kind of events.

I'm not saying you can't make this Mandalorian organization, but if I do end up to be a member of it, I may not be at all active.

Bad idea, and it has been discussed before.

Stormtroopers are more recognizable than Mandalorians, custom or not. And there's more of them.

If a group of Mandos appeared for an event on their own, the first questions from a bystander would be 'what movie were you in'? I know a few custom Mandalorians that decided to quit trooping in their costumes because of all the questions. And they were at a sci-fi event!

The bottom line is, if your character didn't appear onscreen, very few people are going to know what you're all about.

There used to be a bounty-hunter-only club called the 'Phoenix Squadron'. It was later absorbed into the 501st, as there was no real use for a separate club.

With all due seriousness. BatNinja summed it up well. The World recognizes Stormtroopers. You don't even have to see one saga of Star Wars. People just recognize those guy's in the white armor. And a strong presense indeed.

Well, here in Iowa, and more specifically in Des Moines (and some from other cities), the number of customs we have is growing fast. I am done with my V1 custom, which I wore for the first time last Saturday (and got called Jango more times than I can remember, which is fine with me :p ), and know of one other who is done as well, and maybe even 3 others from talking with a Jedi on Saturday who has a custom and trooped with 2 other customs he knows.
And we've got at least 3 more customs on the way, one pretty much halfway done.
That means about 8 customs, plus Boba. :wacko We'll be the Iowa version of the Southern Outpost!

Even if you're not called to events, it really is a GREAT time to hang out with other Mando's in costume, despite what the public reaction. Plus, kids might be too awestruck with all the Mando's to even ask who you are.

There's a fine line between being a group of easily recognizable white-armored Star Wars characters and a motley crew of T-visored militants. The public will, no doubt, draw their own conclusions. :)

But hey, what do I know?

I'm not saying storm places while waiving your blasters in the air.

Multiple customs will probably be called a Fett, be it "Blue Boba" or "Red Jango". I was called Jango, even though I didn't look like Jango. All my armor was very dark blue, with lighter blue around the visor. Didn't have twin guns, didn't have a jet pack, didn't have thigh plates or knee plates, and there was no silver on me except the little spots of damage. Heck, even the other custom who was there who was ALL black, except for some red accents, was called Jango! If your in a custom Mando costume at a Star Wars costumed event, you're going to be called Boba or Jango before you're seen as a security risk. I was even called Boba a couple of times, and Boba was next to me!

Of course it might depend on where you live and the security alert you're on at the time, or if people are just generally paranoid where you live. The event I was at, no one was scared of me. Sure, a few kids were a little hesitant, same with Boba or Jango, but parents came right up to me normally and asked if their child could get a pic with me. No paranoia, no fear, just fun.

Personally, I expected more positive responses to this. As far as custom Mandalorians go, just in my area I've met three or four folks creating custom Mandalorians and as the popularity grows, I suspect there will be many more. Especially after all the new information coming about in books such as "Hard Contact," "Triple Zero," and "Bloodlines"-with at least a couple more books dealing with the subject on the way. And if folks at Sci-Fi/Star Wars conventions cannot distinguish Boba Fett from a custom, then what do they actually know to begin with. So I'd have no problems just answering their questions, schooling them on the finer points of the Star Wars EU the best I can...Another thing kinda shocked me, was that folks acted like a custom Mando at a Star Wars/Sci Fi/RPG convention was a rarity. Which I found funny as I just looked at a couple pics of this past summers DragonCon, where there were at least 20 Custom Mandalorians present in the photo. Maybe that was a fluke. I just think folks are tired of the status quo, having 50 Boba's or jangos or stormtroopers at the same convention would tend to get a little bland-I know it would be for me. So folks are becoming more creative, branching out to other characters from the films, writing detailed and elaborate back-stories for their Mando personas. As far as the 501st is concerned. I emailed one of the leaders of a local garrison a while back about joining as a custom and I was told that customs basically need not apply.Which is why our growing community has been kicking around the idea about going off in our own direction, picking up those interested- and interest is growing. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes about from all this...

Well speaking for myself. I no that the SW thing isnt quite as big here in the UK as it is over the pond. I have a great bunch of friends who play on SWG corbantis. **** my history teachers class is full of star wars stuff and he admits he play "an" online game so hes prob there too. But there arent many events in the Uk as far as stuff like this goes. I would be all for it but it just sux that the UK doesnt do as much stuff like this and therefore it aint as popular and/or recognised

Just dress up in custom gear and go to all the 501st events. :D

What are they gonna do? Remove you from the premises?
