    Re: Mandalorian helmet/armor in progress.

I used the 2-piece Jango helmet from e-Bay. The seller was stretch361 and had a store (Potters Gifts or something). Just under $37 with super fast and free shipping. Cheapest base for one of these I could find. I'm too old for my dad to tell me what I can and can't buy...but I have become a cheap bastage since the economy went south, so I still go with the cheapest I can get away with.

One other fairly cheap thing to use for armor pieces is foberglass/body filler covered wire mesh. I used to build knight armor out of this stuff when I was a kid. Form the wire mesh (I prefer 1/4 inch square myself), cover the back in duct tape, and use the fiberglass or bondo type stuff to cover the outside. The wire is pretty easy to form and shape and you can't tell what it was after filling, sanding, and painting it. Not sure how your parents would feel about you using those kinds of chemicals, but maybe your dad could help out (mine tried to help out way back when...but he was never very good at that kind of stuff and spent more time watching than anything ).

Anyway...good luck to you and hope you get some pics of your progress up soon.

As soon as I figure out how to upload pics, this page won't have enough space to hold all the pics I'll post .
    No, I don't have myspace.
I'll ask my parents if they have bodyfiller or fiberglass.
We have chicken-coop type wire, if that's what you meant?

I never actually thought you could make armor out of so much stuff...
    Wire
    Trash cans
    Plastic binders
    Metal
    Metal trash cans
    Fiberglass
And then starched fabric, if you want to stretch it a bit...
Probably a lot more stuff, too.

Oh yes, and how do you sand something? What IS sanding, anyway?

Yikes!!! Sanding is the process of taking something rough and smoothing it out.

Sand paper most likely vod. But a good way to get started on your armor is to start off with simple stuff such as the jumpsuit, belt, and vest that you will need for your armor. Try going to goodwill and searching through the stuff they have there. More then likely you will come across something that can really benefit and use for your armor.

I did that today and came across two really nice belts that would look nice with my armor. Truly anything you find weather the material or the style will work with your costume. I am utilizing material I have from an old halloween costume as well as some home materials to make my armor.

As stated before vod try the mando mercs. They are the ones that can help you out with your costume.

I wish my parents would take me out more....
I'm lucky if they take me to goodwill twice a year.
I already have a simple black belt.
    I don't know what a jumpsuit is
I don't know how much a vest costs.

Thing is, I have to have mando armor to sign up on the forums, and since I don't have the armor, I can't sign up, and thus can't post...

Someone else will probably chime in here, but I guess I could be wrong. I don't think you need armor to sign up to Mandalorian Mercs; you have to meet their requirements for armor to become a member. Unless I misunderstand, they're not the same thing. I've been a member of the forums for a while now, and still haven't finished a uniform. I'm just not an official member of the Mercs (and may never be, since they require two pieces of armor below the belt, and I've never really liked that). Try joining. TDH is a great place, but Mandalorian Mercs is wholly different, and I think it would meet a lot of your needs that might not be met here.

Relax. Work with what you can. Hopefully you didn't spend a lot on the helmet. Concentrate on what you can tick off the list, and go slow. Without a fair amount of money, this takes time and patience. What _can_ you work on right now?

Yeah I am a member of the Mando Mercs as well. Not an official member but I'm working on my cardboard version of mandalorian armor. My armor will be updated as time goes on. Including that whole armor below the waist deal. I'll have to work with that since I am not having a cod peace but possibly some knee pads.

    Re: Mandalorian helmet/armor in progress.

    Is it really paper-thin, though?
It seems to me like the makers of the helmet are out to get sued...
It could melt right into your hair, if you're out in the sun for too long...

What are the ways, and how cheap?
My dad does NOT approve of using body car filler....car body filler, whatever.
Thinks that I'm going to get some kind of disease if I put it on my body too much.
So, naturally, I don't know how to fix it up.

    Oh yes, and commander720?
Can you REALLY join the mercs in cardboard armor?!
In that case, I may sign up, just for the fun of it....as my dad probably never will take me to ANY kind of convention other than the ones my mom goes to.

Wait, can you post them by copying, then pasting? Or is it harder than that?

Made them outta 'plastic' binders...which I found out is nothing more than fancy plastic coated in plastic.

From what I can tell you; you can't join the mercs in cardboard armor unless you have it coated in some type of resin or fiberglass. I am going to be sticking cereal box's to the top of my armor to add to the smoothness and then paint over it.

How do you fiberglass something? According to my dad, fiberglass is basically transparent plastic.
So how do you fiberglass something with fiberglass?
