Mandalore the Indomitable

Beefheart

New Hunter
I was curious if anyone has ever attempted this guy from the Sith War comics/SW Omnibus #2. Forum/Google searches haven't pulled up much.

I've got the comics so I've got all the reference I'm going to get but I think it would not only be fairly easy (after the face piece/head shroud deal) but fairly cheap.

mandalore the indomitable would be neither easy or inexpensive. take another look at that armor. you would have to custom fabricate all of that, no one just makes that stuff.

as for the dune reference, check out beefhearts sig.

Well, it seems the difficulty would lie mostly in the helmet, with the same deal as the neo-crusader armor getting the right materials for the cloth area around the face plate. The pictures I've looked at in the comics, the majority of the exposed armor seems to be linked rectangular sections (maybe something like trashcan bits?). The rounded backpack may be kind of a pain but I've seen some clever ideas on here to get around that (maybe sintra). Gauntlets and boots need to do more research as he has lots of cloth bits covering that stuff. I was thinking rigging some cheap garden hose with some plastic bits for detail for his face plate hoses. Haven't put much thought into the Mando Axe.

I dunno. Just an idea for later, I always like to see things people haven't done yet.

And, Dune is definitely amazing :).

I think you might be oversimplifying the design in your head. The basic shape of the armor pieces should be relatively easy to pull off, but the detail involved would be tremendous. If you go with trashcan armor you'd have to use something like sculpy on the entire thing to give it the correct ridges.

Also, the body build of this Mandalore is super human (probably because he's not a human). I don't know what you look like, but this guy is extremely muscled and very fit. I'm not sure he could be pulled off well without the right body type.

Gonna agree with Apollo on this. As simple as the comic may look, I think this armor would require some considerable sculpting to create. I believe someone also wore MtI armor set back at DCon 04 or 05.

Point taken and noted. I have a bit of a soft spot for the irregular characters in most anything so I look to them first usually.

I'm skinny. I was kinda hoping I'd bet on his cloth bits to hide it some. Oh well, this is why I ask these questions and probably why no one's done Mandalore Indomitable style.

Ironic it seems that I blew off the idea of a Carnor Jax for the same reason. That and I don't really dig the idea of thigh high leather boots...

Thanks again for the input, I'll have to keep thinking of something to work on aside from a scratch Fett for now.

I decided a while back that I'm going to try to do Mandalore the Indomitable. I already have the mask I purchased from a sculpter, same guy I got my Rohlan Dyre helmet for. I don't think I'll have a problem with the build... at 6'06" 275-ish I'm plenty big. The soft goods I don't see as being an issue at all. Using the comics and the figure as a template, I believe alot of the Dark Ages reenacting clothing could be used for this quite well. The main problem will be his [edit] Pauldron. I've seen a couple of things that can used as bases to build off of but, it's going to take some added work. I'm thinking/hoping that if done in good quality, which I wouldn't do it any other way, I can petition the 501st for entrance with the character as he meets the criteria of having been featured in two cannon mediums... comics and figure.

However, before I get around to doing Mandalore, I'm thinking a second set of armor, this time maybe metal. It would be completely a variant as it is based on a cannon character but, has an appearance all to my own. A'den Skirata, the Null ARC from TC, in Beskar'gam.

Not to rain on your parade either, Jaing, but it's three canon sources that are necessary and action figures are always kind of iffy. I also don't know how keen they would be on letting in the character just because of who he is. Try it and see how it goes, but don't expect too much.

Man, I sound like a real downer today. Just want you guys to know that I like the ideas here, I'm just seeing some problems with the feasibility

In all honesty considering another character to costume to break the monotony of a long Fett costume was also to make sure I had something else decent for Rebel/501 Legion in case I botched my Fett. That's good to know about the three sources, i missed that going through the 501 page.

Yeah, I had it in my mind that it was 2 not 3. Oh well. Still may try that costume in the future, more because it would be sick! But, it will be awhile out. Besides, looks like I'll have plenty of free time coming my way soon.

That's the best reason to do any costume

Yea, he is one of the coolest looking Mandalorians in my opinion.

I'd love to see it!

One nice thing about him is that through the different comics his armor has lots of little variations (totally understandable, I used to draw comics and even frame continuity is difficult) frame to frame and page to page. His right pauldron changes from a skull type thing to a setup of linked rectangular plates and his backpack has some changes in its overall geometry as well. But it's modeling freedom really.

I think his axe, at least the blades of it could be done easily enough if you have a table mounted grinding wheel.

I plan to use the figure as a template for mine. It's pretty cut and dry. For those of you not familiar with it, here is a link...

I've never seen that, that's pretty cool...

He's got that linked plate stuff going for his armor like in the latter comics he's in.

I was thinking of doing plastic rectangles and then linking them with rounded fence wire with some sort of stiff undermaterial. Then again that figure doesn't seem to show the links between the little plates like the comics did. I dunno.

I found the picture of the comic frame that shows the pauldrons and the links but unfortunately its rediculously small and i can't find a bigger one. It's top down from his right though if you can find a bigger version.

To me, his pauldron almost looks like a fabric or leather material and possibly padded? Not really sure. I'll have to play around with ideas when the time comes.

I was considering linking the pieces and then maybe getting a padded lining and sewing the links/plates onto the lining through the links themselves to maintain full mobility but still keep them mostly in place.

I'll be looking forward to when you start it.

sorry to necro-post here, but i gotta say you guys are overthinking this whole costume. i mean sure it isnt gonna be cheap, but ive estimated the prices, and a good costume without the axe is about 1/3 of the price itd take to make a quality boba fett costume. especially since the helmet is essentially a hocket mask, goldened visor, and brown balaclava, as opposed to restoring or hand building a mando scout class helmet.

i mean sure there are some things like the breathing apparatus' thatll be hard to come by, and such, but once you have the basics down, this costume, ive estimated, will only cost you about 180.00 out the pocket.

ive been looking for a quality thread about the ultimate. finally found this one, and i must say im relieved.
