Makan Pyralis

Hi everyone! I am new to the boards, kind of.....I would like to show what i am working on. I see that this picture was shown on another thread, but for the girl (wife) and. (This is Trash Can Armor )

I am giving him the Name Makan Pyralis since he doesnt have a name yet.

I am debating doing the X and the skull, i did it before and didn't like it. So i sanded it off and painted over it.

I am not sure if you can notice that I modified it to be my own symbol. From a water drop to a leave and and ever that symbol was on the bottom i changed.

And a starting weapon, i will not keep this...my friend Fosterkeri pointed it out so i grapped it. I am gunna make a couple of weapons and choose from them.

Please tell me what you think!

Nice work, but your armor seems a little more orange than red. At least to my eyes the comic armor seems more red. I would get rid of that dent though, especially since the comic one doesn't have one. As much damage as a Mando would take, a bunch of them having the same dent justs seems off. It's a must for Boba, not so for others.

I like it, I see you've opted for keeping the dent, also. It's very similar to mine, except the color on the helmet is reversed(kinda). I really like where you're going with this, are you atempting the female armor for a significant other, perhaps?

It does look orange in the picture, but it looks more red in person. The dent in the helmet is just there for now, i am going to get a better helmet to use...this is just a temp.

For the female, I am not saying anything definte right now, but i would like to do a music video fan film with this scene in it.

Looks awesome Makan...keep up the good work and keep us posted with progress pics. IMO...I'd add the X and the skull back on the helmet...it would definately add something most customs don't have. I also agree with Remo...loose the dent...hehe. Glad to see you aboard

For weathering, i used warhammer paint and a small paint brush.

Even just a plain old black wash will tone it down. It looks like a good start.

And yes, lose the dent on the helmet.

sorry i didnt see that earlier....i picked mine up at target, but i have seen them at walmart, toys"r"us, and anywhere else that sells nerf guns. And like was said, they cost about $10.

    Nerf N-Strike Maverick

I do want to remove the dent, but that will come in time, but i never thought of a was. I am a high school student (about to grad) and an art student at that, and it never crossed my mind. Thanks for the tip!

That, and it'll probably get cancelled soon anyway; I used to subscribe to that Star Wars Galaxy magazine. It changed to Star Wars Collector, and died after producing a few issues. The moment I subscribe to Insider, it'll probably get cancelled :p

Idk, with them making the TV show in Jan and the 2 cartoons, i think it will be there for a while. Plus, they know they can't do no wrong with star wars, so.....yea i think it will be there for a long time.

Galaxies was a crying shame. I was on the chilastra server. I was in the SHN when the CU came around, and it destroyed the guild. that really hurt, loosing friends like that. And then with the new one, I stopped playing on Nov 1st, me and my exgirlfriend broke up (ah, high school drama) and being upset i didnt want to play, so i took a break. At this point in time no one knew about the change coming up...then on Nov 25 or so i turned it on to see what everyone was up to and to my surprise the game was completely different. I am not saying i will not give the game a chance, becuase i would love to, but my computer cannot handle it anymore and all my money is going into this costume. Some day tho...

I never played the game; I meant the old Star Wars Galaxy magazine, which was back when the Special Editions were hitting theaters, and speculation about the prequels was everywhere. It changed to Star Wars Collector, but fizzled out soon after TPM hit theaters.

Actually I think that Star Wars Insider is improving and becoming more popular, and well written and organized. I especially like the EU stories, in particular last months issue dealing with Kal'buir and the Null ARCs/RC's after Triple Zero. I'll go no further as I'd hate to spoil the story for you, but I highly recommend reading it if possible...The only issue with subscribing to Insider is that it costs $39.95 a year, plus you're a member of the fan club and yada,yada,yada-but I still find it pricey...Oh yeah, nice paintwork on your bucket etc...

Looks great! Save I have one suggestion, slant the eyes a little towards the visor to get rid of the "^__^" effect. It's "cute", but I wouldn't imagine a true mando'ade would apprieciate their helmet design being called such .

Well perhaps if you emphasized the vertical lines off of the edges of the eyes? I think it improves them a little.

I would definitly do the skull and the X. Even if it takes you a few attempts it really adds alot to the bucket! and Hydra was right about the ^ ^ they look more like z's.

I went out and bought that nerf gun today because I liked yours so much. Now if I can get it to look half as good as yours.

anyways keep up the good work

    Re: Makan Pyralis

Nothing has been done to the helmet yet, or the rest of the armor yet. Monday is my last day of school, and i have my government final on wednesday and then i am done for good. So lately i have been in school for about 35 hours aweek, and i pull anywere from 24 to 32 hours of work, then some sleep time, social time, and me time, i have no time for my costume. I did however start on the knee armor, i will put my before and after photos up later, im in school right now, and don't have access to the pictures of them.

I want to repaint the helmet fully. i want to do a lot more detail on it. I only have silver paint for weathering and i want the two or three colors that should be on the weathering effect. I want to repaint all the armor pieces to.

I got my guantlets from bloodsports studios, and i wish i didnt. I paid more for them then i would pay for ruffkintoys, but for some reason i thought they were around $200.00. So i dont know what i will do for those...

i have a thing with the helmet, i painted the x on the helmet when i first painted it. and what i did was taped off the area where the x would be, and after i removed the paint, there would be this...like little wall of paint along the x and that made me want to remove it. Can anyone tell me what i should do to prevent this from happening and making it look professional?

    ok i am rambelling now........

It's their inherit reflexes. You can't teach that.

Awesome paint on the helmet! I especially like the rusting. Nice touch!

Did you do all this with the GW paint pots I spied in the pic?

Do the new paint pots with the pop-top have the drying out problem?

When they switched from the old-old pots to those horrible unscrew lids was the worst thing they ever did. My paint would dry out left and right and I refused to keep shelling out cash for something I had used very little of. I still have some of the old-old-old pots with the Gremlin on them and the paint in those is as fresh as new.

They made me so mad I had switched to Vallejo.

my first encounter with gw paints was in 9th grade, about 3 years ago. is was big into mage knights and painting them. so one year my aunt bought be a warhammer kit with paint and figures along with some mage nights form my birthday. when i used the paint for the first time, i was in love. i was using model paint which would run the brushes or never fully dried. then i went to acrylic paints, and they would chip off from time to time. anyways, the wg paints at the time were screw tops and about a year after i opened them, they became hard, and i got a little discouraged! But i found a game workshops store at a mall that was close to my house and i got some to custom some star wars figures. The paints i have now are screw tops and the tops also pop open....

Here is a costume figure i did of fosterkeri as a birthday gift, it doesnt look to much like him....meaning the face, but i tried to paint the armor as good as i could to his.

i did not paint the flight suit, knees, shoulders. The shoes werent painted over but were modified with the black. The helmet is the same way, i only modified some parts of the helmet.

the figures at the bottom are other figures i have done....
Nova Trooper(Swg), Imp Officer(swg), Katarn Armor(swg), and me as a Dark Jedi(real life).........(can you tell i was an art student?)

That looks sweet dude. I still think you oughta add the skull emblem on the helmet. It gives it a bit more character.

    Re: Makan Pyralis

i fear that may not come now, if it does it wont for a while. I am a member of the North Ridge, Buffalo New Yorks star wars fanforce, and my very good friend fosterkeri is now quiting, and selling his costume on ebay. I am now making a boba fett costume. After this last event, people were question who i was...."who is that?"..."is that boba fett?"..."Is he a good guy?"..."Is he a bad guy?".........i want to costume a character that people know right away and they dont have to question who i am....you know what i mean? anyways, what is a fanforce with out boba fett?

here is the link to fosterkeri's costume
