The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Well, I wore my revamped mandalorian for the first time at Dragon Con. It seemed to get some positive feedback from a lot of you out there. I'm going to avoid too much chit chat here and just post the pictures of the suit I found (I didn't get any pictures myself of it:o ) So thanks to tk7602 and Arturo for some good pics (I ganked them from you)

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Wow! I saw a couple of pics of that helmet when I was going through the DCon pics. That is an awesome CUSTOM job there!

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
The helmet, vest, armor and jet pack parts are sweet! Love them! :thumbsup
Especially the helmet! :drool
However.. going out on a limb here... :rolleyes
The rest of the costume looks like a typical SWAT team member. Too me (meaning my opinion) it doesn't have a Mandolorian "look" or "feel".

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Lonewolf, cool looking custom!
I'd love to see some more pics of that bucket.
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Now that is what I call a custom! Way to go man. That is first class!! :cheers

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
That is sooo cool. It looks like what a Mando would look like if they were a real modern-day fighting force. It looks really similar to the Land warrior concept.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I don't know if you remember me, but I was the guy that was near the 501st table (on sunday i think), asking alot about your helmet. It was awesome in person.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Thanks for all the praise guys. The Jubilee in the two pics is my girlfriend Julie( Iceheart on these boards)
I was kind of going for a swat/ special forces soldier look. I wanted to blend the mandalorian look with the look or feel of the modern special forces soldier. Specifically the familiar look of pouches on legs, back, and sides. Making thinkgs look funtional and as though they would actually work. For some reason I always end up thinking of mandalorians as ground pounders, a futuristic infantryman type. Thus the backpack in place of the standard jet pack, and the backpack having a tall antennae and some pouches.
The helmet I had the most fun with. You guys should see the stack of sketches I made coming up with my final design. I came up with a design philosophy for the mandalorian helmet. (At this point you should realize I'm an industrial designer, also the guy who interned at hasbro) I decided that the helmet (and gauntlets for that matter) are modular. I decided for the purpose of my design excercise that the look of variantes on the armor in other images and publications were not due to artistic style and liscense, but rather should be considered "canon" variations. A vented earcap was not becuase some artist drew it that way, but because the earcaps could be interchanged and specialized. Places on fett's helmet like the arrows above the visor and the vents on the back, what were they? I decided they would be attatchment points for other possible devices or objects. Think of the modern soldier"s kevlar helmet. You have plain helmets (like boba's), or ones with lights or night vision devices on the front (like my helmet). So I decided my points of difference would be placed on the front over where the arrows are, on the back where the keyslots are, and the earcaps. But I also wanted to see how far could I push the visor, the defining feature of the helmet, and still make it recognizable as mandalorian. I also wanted to make it completely different by changing the visor color. Plus, I had the gold visor laying around from a failed attempt at sculpting a master chief helmet. So I sketched a whole bunch on it and came up with what I had.
It sort of helped me to develope this design philosophy when I went through designing my mandalorian. It helped to get me thinking, give myself some guidlines and constraints, and give me a good base for getting reference. Below is one of my final design renders, and you can see some of my other sketches at http://tkbearcrew.com/v-web/gallery/Custom-mandalorians And believe me, thats not even a quarter of the doodles and sketches I did for this revision of my mando.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Well..
I saw it up close at DCon and I thought it rocked!!!
I`m still fighting with my new camera to get the pics from the Custom Mando Photo Op posted.
It was a blast!!!

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
John, it was great seeing you again bud and your costume ROCKED.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I always thought the same way concerning modular attachments concerning mandalorian armor. I always try to give my mandalorian sketches a tactical and practical feel as well in the same way i would situate my gear. Your armor and sketches look great and you should definitely feel proud about how your helmet turned out.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I saw you at Dragon Con Wolf...but with the drinking, and the crowds, and the drinking....I had a problem keeping my camera steady. Blurry pics = bad picks! I thought it was a great costume, and it looks better in person!
...Time to buy a camera w/ image stabilization...

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
John, your Mando is SAWEET! Nice work man and your bucket has a hood scoop, I love that!
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I will always like custome mandos over all costumes...and that one there is one of the best I've seen. I love the helmet most of all.
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I also saw this costume in person at Dragon Con. My hat's off to you for the work you did on the helmet as well as the back pack. I also have thought of the Mandos as a ground pounding type of troop. My first effort was trying to focus on that feel as well.
I do want to thank you for making a very custom bucket. This opens the doors up to us a little more to expriment with new looks but still keep the mando feel to the armor. I don't know where the pic is anymore but my next bucket will be a double T type as seen in one of the comic books. It will still have the Mando feel but be a complete custom.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Ori'kandosii ner vod!! You really did capture the SF/ infantry flavor. Very Merc'ish also. I totally feel the buy'ce (helmet) and the custom comm anteas. The tinted T visor was a nice touch too. I really like the practical and functional style too, maybe its because Ive been a ground pounder, as you put it, for so long. I think it fits perfect with the Mandalorian pragmatic way of doing things. Its simple but it works and that what counts. I like the subdued color scheme, not a fan of super bright colors myself. The wear on the buy'ce looks accurate, and I was really feeling the roster number on the buy'ce too. It made it look like you are part of a uniformed Mando specialty unit. I got the HALO insertion/Target interdiction squad member feel. I guess thats the "joe" in me being partial.
My only crit would be the bootlaces, and the orangey pistol grips. Thats it. Everything else looks fuctional. I even rocked the same pair of Hatch Operator gloves when I was kickin in dorrs and clearing rooms in Iraq. That little padding saved my knuckles many times. Nice Mando burc'ya!

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Just playing off of MandoSniper's suggestion, 'cause I now noticed it myself... Here's a place for some cool lookin' boots to replace the one's with laces you got.

I plan on going here when I finally have the money to start my smuggler costume, so I'm sure you can find a set of boots that'd work.

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
That helmet Rules!! Excellent mod!
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
***!!!That helmet just screams awesomeness!!!*** You could and should have a comic book after your character!! I do agree with the others that the bucket just over powers the whole costume. kinda like 24" rims on a car. The whole car might be sharp... but you keep looking at the rims!

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Holy Old thread batman....
2006?
StudioFett,
Why did you dig up this ancient thread?
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Because he liked Lonewolf's helmet. :b ;) :lol
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Holy cow, I had forgotten making this thread:lol
Thanks for the compliments anyhoo. :)
I actually have to revamp this mando. It was just a quick build for Dragon Con, and the only impressive things are the helmet and the backpack. I need to make new armor, sculpt custom gauntlets, and have something better than US flightsuit and my dannerboots:o
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Still John, the helmet is pretty darn sweet. It's even cooler in person!
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
yeah, i'm with them. that helmet is really well done! now you'll be all inspired to do more upgrades!
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Deffinatly a sweet helmet!
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I'd like to see more shots of that backpack too. It looks like it would be really impressive from what can be seen
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I just noticed that is Jubilee from X-men with you, haha, awesome.
-
Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
I'm interested in those blasters...

Re: The Lonewolf at Dragon Con
Iam thinking about partly steeling the bucket design.
