Updates?? The art is just awesome!!
Oh yeh. Thats nice. Glad to see this thread back on the map
I love those concept drawings they're awsome
wow those drawings are amazing, how long did it take you to do them?...takes me forever to finish a drawing and mine arent nearly as bueatiful as yours :thumbup :skull

Jeeze, I'm sorry, the project's been put on halt as of late, I just haven't found the time or energy to get another project going, but I promise I will eventually have something! The ugly Rubies Jango helmet stares at me every day begging to be finished so I'm hoping to get something done perhaps before the new year.
Sorry for the lack of updates!
I love the designs you've done! I really can't wait to see the finished product! The colour scheme is fantastic! Love the weaponry!
I've never been a fan of fem armour, but after seeing your designs and also the mando wedding pic, I'm actually really digging it. But it has to be natural, and form fitting, the way armour should be! I'm in the process of designing my armour and hope to be able to post sketches soon! :D
Hydra - awesome concept!! WOW I am kinda' inspired here. I need to read up more on the Mandolorians and the history of the Fiets. Very awesome stuff and as member of Cobra Cares 21st Infantry I would have to say yes the Commander would love you. Infact you should expect a ruby-diamond power lazer for X-mas this year, LOL.
..awesome and interesting concept.
im looking forward seeing the result ;)
I'm definitely Not an artist as I really wished I could draw a Mando form just so I could see what my armor would look like completed. Oddly enough, I no longer have to do that as our armor (even though I'm male) colors are Very similar-yours are FAR more intricate compared with my simple grey with white borders...I was really starting to doubt my color scheme and was thinking about changing it, but now I can get a basic idea about how it'll turn out. Very nice work-Lucasfilm needs to take notice of your talents, and I honestly mean that. I can't wait to see more of your work in the future-including your backstory.
:skull
I demand an update! Please :? ?
I was actually talking with her about this project a couple nights ago, but I'm not going to release any information because it's not mine to give.;)
Aurgh, quit bumping my thread, it's embarassing when I don't have anything to update on! Hehe.
Very soon though, my grandfather just passed away and I'm a little overwhelmed with other personal issues at the moment. But thanks for keeping faith in me folks!
I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Take your time with your personal issues and I look forward to your return.
With great sympathy, I can relate to your situation as I send my message as its been a hard road for me as well as of last year my mother has been in the hospital for the last 9 months due to her emphysema. Doctors gave up all hope, told me its time to shut off the life support, but we keep pushing and now she is getting better and we hope to bring her home soon.
Looking forward to this new year to be better than last. Still I hope for strength and peace to you and you family. Keep strong and keep up the good work!:hug
oo...sry to hear about yur loss. GL though, get the updates when yur good and ready!!
Sorry to hear about your loss :(
I'm sorry about your loss. IMHO this will be the best fem-mando ever if it is ever finished
Awesome drawings and awesome color skeem for your armor!!!! 100/10!!!
Oh hay thur! Long time no... update. Well things are a little less hectic around here, just got through the college year and have a stable well paying job headed my way, so I figured... time for my mando again!
I went to work and one of the more difficult aspects is nearly complete. Though I think I went a little too small on the size of the curvature, but it'll do fine for my first chest pieces.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5040017.jpg
Please please pleas, excuse the bits of tape (I still have a bit of shaping to do) and the dirty mirror (hobbing < cleaning).
I do have a bit of a request though. I'd like some hints to a place for cheap cheap flight suits? (The army surplus here in the Vail valley is wanting $70 a piece, ouch.) Or appropriately, a place I kind find a pattern for a flight suit, I've looked everywhere with no luck.
Next up, the rest of the armor and the helmet!
Awesome, been wondering baout this project.
Here's some resources on softp arts at Mando Mercs. There's a flight suit source for $40 and cheaper. and it's the same flight suits that sell on eBay for $70 and up. Includes stuff on girth belts, belt pouches, boots, ect...
Hope that helps, can't wait to see this finished! :thumbsup
Good to see your project is back up and running, really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. The chest plates look great, natural shape, realistic. Great stuff.
(sorry to hear about your loss).
obscuring face... success!
there's a kwik-sew pattern that i'm having tailored for my flight suit. it's a mens coverall, but it might work: http://www.candleonthehill.net/store...g.php?item=167
but i've said this before in another femando's thread that a one piece flight suit may not be the best, logistically speaking, for a woman. bathroom breaks for a guy just involve moving the cod piece out of the way and hoping to have had the foresite to install a double zipper. for a girl, you might want to start planning to go pee about 20 minutes before you actually have to go, because you're pretty much going to have to take off most of your armor to be able to get the flightsuit to the point that you can use the toilet.
but back on topic, :thumbsup on successfully creating boobie armor.
I really like your designs. You have a really good feel for the character and colors you choose work nicely together.
I haven't done much in way of original mando designs myself. But i did come up with my interpertation of Kal Skirata.
I'm saving it till i get extra helmet to try it on.
Looking at your first drawing i would go with a jumpsuit. Your design would work better with a form fitting shirt, maybe thicker material and maybe a cargo style pants??
Experiment with different clothes matching your colors in your design. I say formfitting shirt because of your chest armor. Think about Zam Wessel form fitting outfit. The chest armor is not laying on a baggy top.
Theres no rule saying you have to wear a jumpsuit.
Keep up the great work Hydra. :thumbsup
IT'S ALIVE!
Glad to see you back at it:cheers
Actually I was thinking about this, I was thinking of installing a flap or actually splitting the suit in two, but installing a snap system to keep it "whole".
Thanks for the sewing pattern link! I've been looking all over something like that, modifying patterns is alot easier then modifying a larger men's premade.
What I have planned for the over all material, is, kind of like a stretch denim or a similar material and making it a little tight fitting, but towards the chest area, changing the material over to some sort of stretch knit blend. (Kind of a band around the chest, like a boob tube.)
Then for the flak "vest" I'll be using a pattern for a woman's "lined vest" that'll fit pretty tight (the curvatures), kind of like a corset.
great to see this on the road again...i cant wait to see this come to fruition! looks great so far...i may have missed this but what did you make those chaest pieces out of?...cause im working on some femme armour for a friend of mine and so far all of my attempts have been terable
well i'd certianlly woudl like to be honored with one of your designs to bring into the metal shop and make another female fando.
Hey Hydra, your designs are AWESOME.
We've got a female member over at Mercs who is doing a 2 piece flight suit for herself. Here's the link:
Verdaera's Soft Schtuffs
That may give you some good ideas on where you want to go with your 2 piece. Seriously look forward to seeing this done.
NovallTalon,
This is exactly what i was suggesting to Hydra. This 2 piece formfiting top/bottom will bring out the female look i was picturing. But at the same time it maintains that dangerous mando edge.
-Michael
The coolest thing about this 2 piece is that she's pulling it off to make it look JUST like a 1 piece. Like another poster above stated, lets face it...ladies just can't drop and go any time in a 1 piece, and there is just no way to make mando armor that accessible and keep it looking fierce like it should.
Women doing custom armor really should think about this as an alternative to the full flight suit. With a girth and ammo belt, nobody would know the difference.
Awesome! Sweet progress, can't wait to see it all finished!
-Naas
Got the rough draft of my flack vest done! Spent the last couple of nights tailoring it, which was considerably hard (not having a dressform sucks). It's sleeveless because of "shawl" type piece that'll go over the shoulders.
Now to transfer the pattern to some faux leather!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../flakvest2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../flakvest1.jpg
Hydra i think its gonna look cool once it finished. ;)
What color is it gonna be?
The vest will be that chocolate brown color, hopefully I can find a nice soft pleather, no pattern on it...
Also, I'm putting the final touches on a few designs I'll be able to give away, for real this time, haha, 3 male and 2 female.
Not bad at all! Gotta love having to hand tailor parts, it's always enough to make you wanna choke something at times. =)
Looking great! Nice to see you can get back on to your project! Try JoAnns or Hancock Fabrics for patterns. You could also PM SEEKER. His Jango is a 2-piece. You could also check some of the Dance Costuming companies, Curtain Call is a good one, they have alot of generic costumes that can be used as a base.
Keep up the great work!
Geo
Hydra I think you've overcome one of the toughest obstacles on making a costume: keeping it rolling after the initial enthusiasm wears off.
Looks great! If you decide to go with a jumpsuit, I bought one fairly cheap on Flea-bay. Keep up the good work. :cheers
Great concept and very nice design work!! This should be a kickass costume when it all comes together. Nice going :) :)
WOW, now this is a custom I want to see done...:thumbsup
Very sweet design. :thumbup
And as for a helmet.... YOU have some skillz so i say custom helmet is needed.
Kandosii stuff nervod! pm sent.
Can't wait to see it when it's done! Will you be attending any conventions in the near future in it?
Thanks guys! I'm currently going for a flight suit on eBay (probably a men's small), figure I'll chop it at the waist and modify a zipper or snaps for easy bathroom accessibility haha. I also want to hem it so I get a very form fitting... fit.
As for conventions, jeez. I reeeeally wish I could make it to both Comic Con and Dragon Con, but that kind of money is a little far out of reach. Dragon Con's price tag is a little more realistic, but I have a niece being born early august (travel to Utah), two weddings mid and late august (travel to Kansas), and college starting back up the first week of Sept. Though Aug 30th is my boyfriend's birthday, and he lives in NC, so I'm figuring I'd go for a visit and we can drive to Dragon Con. Oh wow, rambling! So um... yes, I hope to make it to at least DC. I'd love to meet some of you guys and have this custom done too!
Fun schedule, hope you get good gas mileage.
He lives in Raleigh/Durham! He's not totally into costuming... not as much as I'd like him to be, not yet. ;) But I'm starting a Darth Nihilus for him and he's super excited about it. (Eventually hope to do a clone and a mando for him too.)
It'd be awesome to meet up! I understand there's quite a few mando enthusiasts in NC, it'd be great to get all together.
Wow thats awesome. He's not into costuming (yet) but I take it he likes KotOR and other EU stuff?
You'd better make a progress thread with that Nihilus costume!
And yeah, theres at least 4 TDH members (that I know of) within a 50 mile radius of where I'm at
Awesome, I'm going to being spending 2 years in the Raleigh area for my church. Maybe I'll run into you guys! That would be sweet!
Yes I apologize... (looks down).
Look'n forward to next pic.;)
Well he's a bit of a closet geek, hehe. Would never guess from looking at him that he's into gaming, muds and even larping. We met about 3ish years ago through Halo 2, and he likes the SW movies and games, but I'm trying to get him deeper into the fandom as a whole though (costuming included). Some day a boba will be in the picture too, hehe.
Yeah! Ok great! We should definitely plan something! I hope to have Lizean done by then, perhaps we could all do a photoshoot?
Oh LAWDY not larping!:suprise
Yeah I've met some interesting people through Xbox Live, one dude I've been playing with for 4 years and hope to meet him in the next few years; another guy I've been playing with for about a year and a half and I'm meeting him this summer.
I think a photoshoot would be an AWESOME idea, I'd definitely have my Boba done by Aug. Need to have it done in time for the Clone Wars movie! I'd be really excited to see your custom fem'mando in person, so I am watching your progress here in this thread closely.
Sorry to be more off topic; but I wish my other half was into SW. She's a Trekkie. **** shame haha.
If you guys do that I'd love ta see'em.
Hhmm, lets see, I'll be reporting to the MTC in Provo UT on the 23rd of july, I'm staying there for about 2 weeks, then flying out to Raleigh. I don't know how I'll be able to meet up cuz once I'm in the mission field I'll be work'n alot. And i won't be able to get on to TDH, or possible my personal e-mail, only the one they give me. So meeting is possible but it'll be a pain. but hey I'll be there for two years I'm sure we can work something out lol.;):thumbsup
I'm totally interested in the Nihilus, I loved both KotOR's.
Well I'll be visiting in probably early July, if I do come and visit before Dragon Con, the trip might be short and might now have enough time for anything substantial in NC. So a meet up more middle of summer would be better, I had been thinking for a while about a camping trip, but camping is always more fun with more people. Lol mando camp. There's also the inevitable notion out there that I might move out and join him in his town house soon, so..
And oh noes! I think a larper is a little better then having a trekkie! Haha! (I kid I kid)
Anyways!
1) I actually acquired my boots, finished 3 pouches, got some leather for the belts and holsters, and the fabric for the cape and shawl.
2) Have all of my armor cut out, today I'm in the process of reshaping it and I'll go ahead and be priming it later.
Won't have a decent camera until Sunday though, I'll see if I can go dig out my ancient Kodak digital (6 years, haha), so I can take some shots right away.
Sweet, look'n forward. lol mando camp lol...... lol.....
Pfft, I'd take a larper over someone who thinks Spock>Yoda, ANY day!. Blasphemy to my ears, I tell ya. haha but srsly.
I like to go camping at some state park, about every two months, and you are right, the more the merrier.
But on topic: If you use your archaic Kodak, will you have more progress pics up tonight or tomorrow?
I apologize i'm sorta a tard, but wats a larper and muds?
You're not a tard. I'm embarrassed to say I actually know.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-User_Dungeon
We've got to stop 'jacking her thread.
Ah shoot sry Hydra.....
I'll pm for now on. (told you I was tarded lol)
It's alright, haha.
Yeah, hopefully I'll be able to dig it up and post some progress tonight.
Looking forward to it;)
These are very terrible shots (as much of the little details seemed to have disappeared in the white wash) taken from my laptop's webcam, but it's still an update!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...armorv1001.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...armorv1002.jpg
I am with out a sander at the moment, but I think I'll be able to start painting by next week. I have also ordered my flight suit to be, stay tuned!
Nice work so far:thumbsup
How will to be placing those finger details?
Sixx
Looks good. You don't have a backplate? And is that a belt buckle between the ab and cod?
Yes that's a buckle and yes, there is a small "small of back" back plate, but I didn't include it in the picture.
I think I will hand carve finger details in before I paint with a clay embossing tool (which will carve out a small portion).
Really kicka** :)
Dang thats comeing along nicely. Keep it up.
Oh and PM inbound...
Oh yeah!! that's looking sweet. :)
Nice. Look'n great. What happened to the 6 year old kodiak? j/k. haha.
Those are gona be freak'n awesome all painted up!
Lookin very awesome Hydra! Keep it up!
That's a lot of progress! :cheers Really looking forward to seeing some paint on that armor. :cheering
Are you doing your own helmet as well?
Because the way you have it drawn looks femine. I like it. Its still mando but has that slightly different,i want to say softer but thats not the word. Just a female look to it.
Make sense?
Nope, just going to go with my Rubies Jango for now, I might makes my own in the future, it might be cool to produce lady/kid sized bucket some time in the future.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5180093.jpg
Speaking of, I thought this was too cute, my 3 year old nephew who's visiting found it lying around, haha.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5180104.jpg
Boots aquired! I'll be removing the gold buckle of course.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5180106.jpg
And the side pouches!
I know you've decided to ditch the jet pack. I was thinking since your gloves are bit more detailed than other mandos, maybe they could be considered magnetizable when needed. For scaling the hauls of enemy ships or buildings. An upside down vertical attack would look cool. Just in theory:)
I'd say go with crushgauntlets. They're coming back into style since Karen wrote Goran Bevin as having one in Revelation. Nothing like a woman who can crush a throat at will. ;)
Hahaha! Nah girls suffocate with the... ugh never mind, hehe.
I like the idea of magnetism though, thanks!
I now have my sandpaper back so I'll be touching up the armor and hopefully painting them with in the week.
While I was going to say thighs of steel I'd thought I'd keep the tone down a little. Haha, though the phrase seems almost too.. appropriate for a female mando.
So I got my cropped flight suit in today, I think I was a little mislead by the measurements given though:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5200117.jpg
Yes I have much tailoring to do. Yes my backyard is full of dandelions, dirt and giant satellite dishes.
I'm running to get paint today for the armor and helmet.
best of luck with the painting.
im starting my first set of beskar'gam soon. already started on the helmet, and im loving it.
your armour designs look amazing.
I guess you don't have cable? :lol
I take it you are going to attach long sleeves underneath the short sleeves, yeah?
Did you happen to finish your good camera or are you still using your old Kodak one, and will you have pics of your paint progress up tonight?
hjow were you mislead. what measurements did they say?
Ya, I'd say thats a touch big on you. =D
Suggestion for the seamstress:
Get the legs tapered down to hug your ankle. looks better and feels much more sleek. Also, have them put a zipper on the inside of the lower leg that runs from half way up your calf down to the bottom of the leg. This will help GREATLY getting your boots on and the shin armor on. Tell them you want to be able to hide the zippers, and they should know what to do.
This is where I've had a hard time with the female set I've been working on. It's darn near impossible for find anything in a flightsuit that accents the female figure. She and I both hit ebay and several other online stores till we found something that worked well, then she had it tailored down to fit more snug.
They said it was an extra small, yeah right!
I'm going to get brown leggings and spandex undershirt to extend it. I'm self tailoring it, going to taper it to fit, chop in half into perhaps a two piece and ad elastic to the waist to keep it smexy.
And yeah, I have my good camera back, hope to start working on the paint tonight.
No paint on the armor yet?
actually there was talk late last night of paint and weatehring beign applied.
so heres to waiting for pictures. im on standby until sat am.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5230129.jpg
Hey hey, I'm getting there! I'm just not rushing.
I'm taking off for the weekend to Denver tonight, but should have Sunday and onward open to work on it. I also have the coveralls/flight suit pinned off to better fit the female figure, all I need to do is sew.
But, I'm in need of a visor for my helmet, thinking of just ordering from t-visor.com, since my local home depot was lacking there of, of face shields.
Also, check out the cargo hold, I'm selling an original piece of art, to fund said T-Visor.
Anticipation.. got'a love it ;)
Spent the afternoon painting! Not quite done as the green details are missing, but I got a good chunk finished.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5250086.jpg
Shins and unglued knees.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/P5250088.jpg
Chest, belly and shoulders.
Awesome work Hydra! Very detailed, I love it!
very nice job ,looks good so far
Thats looking preety darn awsome. :suprise :suprise If I my manboobs get any bigger, and I need to do some, I hope mine come out half as good as yours did! :lol :b ;) But seriously, thats just one awsome costume. :thumbup:thumbup:thumbup
what is it? sintra, or ABS?
...its not metal is it? nice paintjob, was wondering how you were gonna pull that off.
Look'n great ;)
