We should all do an international common project, each one does one part/piece and then everyone gets one of each

    Keep the good work Cruzer!

Unfortunately I only have enough time right now for making the helmet. Plus I would still like to finish my Deathwatch armor sculpts and would like to try my hand at the v2 Viszla helmet.

The helmet is looking good..........I can't wait to see some one tackle the the new Visla helmet too.

Did you base this one off of your smaller sized helmet cast?

Re: A little side project for a friend...

This helmet is a modified deathwatch helmet, so it's going to be a tad smaller than that helmet after all of the modifications. As it is right now, the Female helmet will have an inside circumference of 26" at the base of the dome.

Thanks guys for the encouraging words. Here are a few more pics. The rangefinder ear is temporarily attached until I can finalize the rangefinder attachment and construction. I also still need to fill in the little rectangles on the keys so they are straight slots. Let me know if you have any recommendations for improving the accuracy.
    Thanks,

Re: A little side project for a friend...

Thanks guys. I decided to narrow the elevated areas behind the ears by a 1/4" because they just seemed too wide, and I finished up the key slots in the back. Now I just need to figure out how the rangefinder ear cap is going to attach and stay in place. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

Definitely movable. I wouldn't want to "short change" LFL's first female helmet.
I finished the rangefinder ear cap last night and am moving on to the actual rangefinder this weekend.

Re: A little side project for a friend...

Jeff had shared with me that you were going to be working on the soft parts for this costume, and I'm glad to hear it!

I decided to extend the bottom of the helmet in the back to make it more accurate. I also permanently attached the rangefinder ear and began filling in around it. I'll try to get some progress pics up today after work.
Please let me know if anyone sees anything that needs adjusting.
    Thanks. - Cruzer

Re: A little side project for a friend...

Ok, here is where the helmet is as of right now. I don't plan on making any major changes unless someone has a suggestion. I did narrow the visor area along the top line by 1/8", as well as increase the width of the widow's peak to bring it lower. However, I'm not happy with the visor area, so please let me know if anyone sees anything I should change.

    Thanks,
    Cruzer

Re: A little side project for a friend...

Sorry for the lack of updates, guys. Had to step away from this project to finish "way overdue" Jango orders. The movable rangefinder stalk is completed. Now I have moved on to the rangefinder and hope to have it finished soon. I'll try to post pics tonight of the stalk and rangefinder progress.

My intentions are to cast the rangefinder stalks separately in aluminum cold cast with metal armatures to alleviate breaking, and then cast the rangefinder in white resin with the stalks embedded in them for permanent attachment. Once i have the rangefinder completed, I'll probably have to do a small preorder run at a discounted price to drum up funds for the four separate molds that will need to be made to put this helmet into production. I'll try to get some pics of the rangefinder and stalk up tonight.

    Take it easy,
    Cruzer

Re: A little side project for a friend...

Sorry guys i failed to make the time to take pics. Over the past few days I've now logged about 5 hours on just the rangefinder alone because this thing has so many angles and sides. To make it I'm using a combination of styrene sheets in various thickness' of 1/8", 1/16", and 1/32"...and filling in with bondo when possible. It's 85% complete, and today after work I just need to finish up the curved detailing by the RF stalk, to be done. I promise to have pics up tonight.

The RF stalk height looks good. Looks about the same as a Boba or Jango stalk.
    Nice detail in the RF

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it.

What SEEKER is hinting at is that he and I have already begun collaborating on bringing you guys all of the parts necessary to make Bo-Katan's entire suit. He is diligently beginning work on all of the leather items and soft parts. Likewise, I have already begun construction of the body armor, which I hope to have the majority of the upper body armor completed and ready to show off after this weekend!

    Small update...
Well the silicone didn't arrive before the weekend to begin the mold. This turned out to be a good thing because I'm using this time to reshape the dome to be more accurate after studying ref pics more.

As for the rest of the armor, I have the basic shapes made for the upper body pieces and will post pics once they're a little more dialed in.

    Thanks for the interest

Hey, so I'm just curious... About what size person would fit this armor the best? I mean, I don't want huge or tiny chest armor... Her armor is perfectly fitted to her body. I'm just worried it won't look right...

I'm making the armor to fit a female that is approximately 5'6". Unfortunately I do not have a real female body to test fit all of the pieces to, so I just bought a female mannequin upper torso body off ebay that I'll use. The dimensions of the mannequin are 35" bust, 24" waist, 34" hips, and 18" shoulder width. I've also obtained some basic measurements from two fellow female costumers that are both 5'6" to help me in the construction. So I'm making this armor hoping it can be used by most people between 5'2"-5'10, and can be trimmed slightly if needed. Hope that helps.

That's my measurements once I loose 10lbs! (Except the bust... :P ) Woot Woot!!
What will the armor be made out of?
Are you making the gauntlets and the jetpack?

I'll be padding the waist of the mannequin to make it a more realistic 29"-30". Initially I had no desire in making the jet pack. However, my sister has since decided to make the costume. So I've already begun construction on a Bo jet pack that will measure approximately 13.5" wide when scaled to my helmet. Everything I make will have to be made of fiberglass, unless I can get my hands on a vacform machine. Hope that helps.

Thank you!! I really wanted to be one of the first 501st accepted Bo-Katans, but it looks like we might have a group of aspiring Death Watch Owls. Which is good because that means people are making the costume for me to buy because I can't make anything... I really hope you get the vacform machine because that jetpack will be very heavy otherwise.

Don't you think her thigh pieces might be a bit small? I mean it has to be able to fit guns in the holsters.

BTW: Cruzer, are you making the guns also? Or are you using a set of guys to size the holsters/thighs? I just don't want to get a set of guns and have them not fit, lol.

I was thinking if you went bigger then than that, it would start looking like leg armor. Very sloppy looking. I will let Cruzer decide.

Have you checked out the DOD templates for thigh and holsters? As far as the guns, I think the Death Watch toy blasters are a decent size.

The Deathwatch toy blasters are tiny. The grip is about as long as the first 3 fingers on my hand. Woodchuck makes a nice pistol, I've made some, and Eternal Armory over on the BHG board does 'em too. I don't know that we've ever all compared sizes, but from eyeballing it they look generally the same size.

Also: This thread is awesome. I love how much attention Bo and the Owls are getting!!

I've got a shorty DC-15 from wood chuck and it is a thing of beauty. It does have heft too. I think the toy ones are the right scale for my soon to be 11 year old, they are light too. How heavy are your Deathwatch blasters? Depending on how folks set up their holsters for Bo, it will be interesting to see how it works with the tights/spandex. Got any pics of your pistols? What coloring do you recommend?

I had made a Deathwatch blaster back when they first appeared. However, I realized I had missed the taper of the gun's body after more ref pics were released. So I plan to go back and rework my blaster to be more accurate. Right now a Feather Lite cast weighs 9.7oz, so I'm hoping it will be between 7-8oz after the gun is slimmed down. I'd be more than happy to purchase a toy blaster to do a size/weight comparison with my blaster.

My guns are also cast in featherlite, so they probably weigh about the same as Cruzer's.

Looks great! My BF's Viszla has Woodchuck's pistols and they are a bit too heavy. His thigh pieces had to be adjusted when he put the guns in the holsters. I'm happy to know that you will be making/selling pistols too. I'm gonna be so broke...

I was able to get a little progress done on the Bo-Katan jetpack while waiting for my silicone to arrive. The jetpack is approximately 13.5" wide.

    Thanks bud.
Started gluing everything down in the center and giving it some shape. I'm not happy with how the bottom of the center area turned out, but I'm not sure what to do with it without better ref pics. I'm open to any suggestions.

Yea, I've seen that pic, Thanks. The bottom of that jet pack seems to be designed slightly differently than Bo's that is partially seen in the screen captures. :/

I found two sequences where the jetpack bottom is visible (more or less):

But I guess you already got these screen caps.

Lol. Hopefully I'll be able to start the helmet mold this weekend. However I already have four paid pre-orders that have priority over any orders placed once production hopefully starts sometime next week.

Thanks, the time I've logged on this jet pack is rediculous. Won't know about the weight until I can make a few casts. But I'm thinking about the possibility of two versions: a foam filled budget jet pack and a hollow fiberglass version.

Right now I'm pushing the completion of the jet pack to be able to make the molds for both the helmet and jet pack this weekend, so that I can begin making the first casts during my week long Easter vacation next week.

Small update...the jet pack body is pretty much done except for one small detailing on the bottom that I'll add tomorrow before I give it a coat of professional automotive primer. Now, I can move on to the cones and thrusters.

Finally got some of the attachments done. I just need to make two small adjustments that I missed with the strip running down the center. Then, I'll give it a second coat of professional automotive primer, and it should be ready for silicone.

As for putting the helmet and jetpack into production, I've decided I'm going to do a small run of 3-4 each to help the few people out there that are moving along with this costume. After that I'll stop production to move on to the gauntlets, followed by the backplate and then the rest of the armor. Thanks for the feedback and support everyone!
