does anyone have any suggestions what i could make the rangefinder stalk out of? i really want to make it motorised, but finding the money to buy a pre made circuit is not likely, and have no idea how to make it, so will have to stick with a plain one. :\

any advice would be great. Vor'e

    greetings vod an.
sorry its been a while since ive posted here, lots happening and the armour kinda got shelved. however in the past week, things have slipped into place, and i have finally managed to start on the plates. it is a little unusual, and not sure everyone will like it, but i have made a solid chest plate with the mando style plates as extra plating on top.
have also managed to start the rangefinder for my helmet.
Will put up the design i have later, but for now i hope you will enjoy these pictures.

Chest plates look solid, vod. Will there be some sort of belly plate too? And the RF looks good.

Hey ordeyn. Thanks for the comment. Means a lot as I've been following your thread and you have some pretty awesome skills.
It is pretty solid. Fibreglass on inside and out to make certain. There will be a belly plate, but it won't be a solid plate. Going to make it in about four strips going horizontally across beneath the chest plate, a bit like mediaeval knight armour.
Ordered a cheap remote control car today that I plan to butcher to make the rangefinder motorized.
Will try and post the rough designs for the armour soon.

I drew this picture very quickly over an image i already had. it shows the basic idea for my armour.
it will have a big backpack with twin harpoon missiles, explosives strapped to the left shoulder and the clan logo design i have made on the right shoulder.
The ledt gauntlet will have the flame thrower/mini missile launcher thing, and the belly plate will be like lobster style armour.
the right arm, eventually will have a latex prostetic to look like a cybernetic arm, but a much cruder version than those given to jedi and such.
hopefully you will all like the idea. any comment will be welcome.

    Much thanks Kal'ika.
Its taken me a while to get to this point, the armour always seems to take a back seat when things start to get busy, but gonna keep up with it this time.
Hopefully it will be a kit worthy of this site where everyone has such awesome armour!

was working in the shed today and after making the chest piece, i took a dremel to it and cut out two holes which i then filled back in to make a dent in the chest. it came out great and will try and get some pictures done soon.

Okay. so today i managed to steal a few hours and started with the filler to smooth out the plates. In the uk its P38 car body filler, not sure what you would call it in america or elsewhere. here is a picture for your consideration. i know its not much process, but im so happy with how its looking now.dsc_0438-jpgdsc_0437-jpg

Ok, so no picture updates as not done much work on it over the past few days, but it is coming along nicely. Managed to add more filler and shaped different plates. And also go a cheap remote control car so I can butcher the parts for the rangefinder. It already has the wireless bits, just need to extend a few cables and should be able to make a working rangefinder! Hope you guys aint getting bored of this thread

ok, so the right hand plate is nearly done, and then going to start on the left side. i know its not really that interesting, but i kinda want to keep up with it, and this seems to be a way to keep my optimism about it high. done a load more designing about the armour itself, so i know where i'm heading and whats the next step.
    will keep you posted

Certainly not getting bored here! I'm enjoying it very much and you are doing a really good job. It's been slow going for me too, so I understand. Btw, body filer = bondo in the States.

Ah, fair enough. Kinda had an idea what it was from the look of it in some of the pictures, but couldn't be sure.

Re: Kyr'am Galaar custom armour atempt 3(ish)

so, didnt get a chance to do any work on the armour today, but had a lot of time to think at work (was pretty boring today).
The initial idea for the armour was to put a bit of a mix between clone trooper and Mando, that back story being that my mando was once a demolitions expert in the grand army of the republic (hence the cybernetic hand from a previous detonation he was a little too close to). He was left for dead on a planet and found by a mando who helped him escape the planet and introduced him to the mando way. He took a new name and became a merc.
Its kinda why the design of the chest plate is one solid piece instead of the plates, cos it offeres the greaters protection, but it also pays homage to the mando design. Ive also used clone commando style shoulder plates, and a friend suggested i use the clone trooper pistols shown in the clone wars cartoon. I like the idea, but wanted to know what everyone thought.

Any other questions will be happily answered. (like i said, it was a boring day at work )

Re: Kyr'am Galaar custom armour atempt 3(ish)

Cool back story, it's really interesting and very Mando! I've been wanting to do something similar cos I LOVE clone troopers thanks to Karen Traviss and the Republic Commando video game. I wanna do some sort of clone influenced kit too. As far as weapons go, the DC-17 hand blaster might be the pistol from the cartoon (they're the one's Rex uses). And there's some other guns there too that clone troopers use.

DC-17 hand blaster: DC-17 hand blaster - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki
DC-15 sidearm: DC-15s side arm blaster - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki
DC-15 blaster: DC-15S blaster - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki
DC-15 blaster rifle: DC-15A blaster rifle - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki

Oh, and next time you are bored at work you should keep planning out your armor, if you can. The more you plan, the less time you have to spend to re-do things. Right now, I've got this one piece of paper with tons of scribbles of things I need to fix, what I'm going to do next, etc. It's super helpful to be able to think things out a bit before you do them. Therefore, I encourage you to continue to do so! (cos you are doing a good job!)

Re: Kyr'am Galaar custom armour atempt 3(ish)

It's thanks to Karen Travis that I came up with the idea as well. I've never played the game, but have read all the republic commando books, and love what she's done with the mando's and clones. I guess that's also where I got the idea for the cybernetic arm (though it will be a nightmare to make) as trooper Corr had two.
It is probably the DC-15 I will use, but am going to try and make them myself. I've seen some on the forums that have been made for sale, but I want to try and make some.
As another though I'm tempted to give him a kamma, as the ARC's like them, and it was a traditional Mando piece.
Thanks for the input, and the help. Always grateful. And as for the good job, Ordeyn, its not brilliant, but it will do.

Just a quick addition. Just done some research on wookipedia (at work, bored again, go figure) and saw something totally awesome. The DC-17m from the republic commando game! Their hand blaster, the DC-15 looks cooler than the clone wars version too, so I'm going to try and make them, attatchments included. Big task, but hey!

Re: Kyr'am Galaar custom armour atempt 3(ish)

    Hello again vod'an.
Managed to get some work done on the armour today after a week of no progress. The right side of the chest is almost finished, lots of fine detailing work to do, but managed to start adding the filler to the left side today, and sanded down the first layer. another layer should see it smooth out.
I feel i wasnt too clear about the weapons in my last post, and so to clarify it a bit:
the larger weapon i am going to make is the DC-17m multiple weapons platform (as seen in the republic commando game)
the smaller, hand held pistols will be the DC-15s (also seen in the republic commando game)
The reason i have chosen these weapons, is that i think it will add more to the character i am trying to build, his past being based on a Clone who has been declared KIA and has since become a mandalorian mercenary. I think he must have been some form of heavy trooper or demolitions specialist (having lost one of his arms on a previous mission, and since had a cybernetic one, and the skin is starting to peel off 'cos he doesnt bother with the upkeep). It also explains the double harpoon hell-seaker missiles on his backpack, and the fact that the colour scheme is similar to a troopers (mainly white with the red stripe bordered by a black pinstripe either side)

Will hopfully have more progress pics soon, and in the meantime, any questions you have will be happily answered, and any help will be gratefully accepted.

id never thought about it being him. it could work, but im not sure how other fans of the game would react :\
i did have an idea that he may have been a commando though (even came up with a name, RC-1756 "Boomer", because of his expertise as a demo man)

The chest plate is getting there. All the big areas are pretty well covered and sanded. A few smaller details need doing to get it done, but am happy with the progress
