he he no Lev'ika it's a PARTIAL redesign... the ninja turtle comment just kinda pushed a button I guess
ah i see.. ya i understand, though i see no resemblance to a ninja turtle whatsoever.
I love the design on you chest plates! Do you have any ideas i could use for mine cause i really do not want them plane black!
Oh and how did you do the rust effect?
Oya manda! Redesign if that's what you think it needs, then BACK AT IT! :D If you're having technical trouble, shoot me a PM and I can either answer the ? or I'm sure I know someone who can. :)
:cheers
thanks vode
@ Lev'ika: I'll see what I can come up with ner vod, as for the "rust" it's actually just copper colored paint underneath the primary color.
hey all... I have a few things to update u guys on. First... I've finished the phyiscal redesign, I'm quite happy with it, minus colors. I'm working on paintjob right now. Next I want to update u guys on my build... I've put the second coat of resin. on the greaves (shins) and I just finished putting the first coat of resin on the gaunts. Next layer on the greaves will be a layer of fiberglass on the inside with some griptron padding pressed in to help hold it in place while worn. I will also be adding straps to the back to hold the greaves in place once their done. I will add at least 1 more layer to the gaunts, but it will probably be a fiberglass layer. I will also add a layer of resin to the inside with some griptron padding to help them stay in place. I still haven't decided on whether or not I'm going to paint the gaunts green or blue but I'm thinking about adding some brown splotches into my green paint scheme.
hey kal ur stuff looks awesome
how are things w/ the move?
umm... well we made it! lol we've been on station for about 4 months now. Arrived 1 Dec of last year. I'm actually almost done with training here now. I have to get my 8 training flights in and then I'll be going to my line squadron. Once training's done life will settle down a bit and I'll be able to be a lil more active with my artwork and such.
Whats your AFSC bud? I know your a 1A but not sure which one...3 or 4 Im guessing
It's 13B3
yeah it is... it's an officer's AFSC.
**** officers lol....makes sense NOW...my buddies over there for Flight engineer IQT right now
awesome what are you flying?
E3 Sentry... it's a moddified 707-300 series.
I did goto SERE with a few of the newer guys and girls that came your way in Oct/Nov...when did you go through SERE?
October 11-November 8
Right after we went you went to the Winter sites right?
yes, sure did... and now for some mando stuff... I have more concept sketches. These are for color scheme, I wanted to try a few things out and I just can't decide.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/Concepts.jpg
Yeh we were the last fall site class
cool... any opinions on the kit? anyone?
I think I like the second from the right on the bottom.
yeah I actually tried out my green plates on the green jumpsuit today... not a good idea. That ones out.
the coyote colored one looks good...maybe even get some multi cam?
yup I think I'm liking the coyote webgear too.
4th one top row, second bucket, third gun... Adonian has spoken and it is LAW :lol
going with the coyote vest and webgear! I realized that I can actually get most of that stuff over on the Navy/Marines side of the base at their tactical gear store... currently don't have a brown set of fatigues... looking for those but until I get 'em I'll be using the greys and... I'll do the camo pattern once I get some brown paint.
I say go with multi cam
lol it just doesn't seem very swarzy... I love it tho!
ok just a quick update for y'all... I have resined my shins on the outside... I have put the first coat of resin on my gaunts and my chest/back plates are finished. I'm working on finding my vest and belt... I need to get my pistols before I can build my thigh plates... because I'm using the integrated holsters. I'm waiting for words on my buy'ce... A'd'ika? I've got the grey fatigues... I'm working on making some real high speed battle dress.
good news! I ordered a new plate carrier... meaning I now have a Coyote Brown vest on the way to use for my flak vest
dude with all of the switch ups and changes.. all your hard work will equal something amazing!
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/DSCN1662.jpg
Well here's the vest with the plates... they're not attached yet I just wanted to show off something. I think I need to cut down the collar plate a bit
I like.... I like...
Where'd you get that vest, I want one in black.
cheaperthandirt.com... but it wasn't very cheap. I paid $80 for this carrier... but I'll be able to use it when I deploy too because it is a real carrier made by condor tactical. I have a lot of their other gear and it holds up well enough for me. I love this color tho... the coyote brown is amazing.
Very nice ner vod!!! Hey, I have progress on your helmet btw, gonna post pics once life decided to give me a break...
sweet! That's really good news because I'm stalled out right now. I'm going to have to redesign my rifle, and I have no money to buy parts right now for my kit :( I'm still working on getting everything together tho
Yeah, I think almost everyone I know is in a bit of a money pinch right now. I know I am...:doh But, never fear! I'm having Demagol over tommorow and we're gonna crack open a new tub of bondo and get to work on some 'gam (Your lid being the highest thing on my list :) )
sweet!
ok vode... just wanted to let you know that I am limmited on my current activities. I had my wisdom teeth removed today and I'm on profile/quarters until monday. I have however come up with some ideas. Some of my weapons that I think I can manage to build... I'm going to make/carry an Apache style tommohawk, and a tactical combat knife with about a 5 or 6 inch blade... The Tommohawk will be sheathed on the back of the webbelt behind a buttpack, with the blade and a small part of the handle exposed to allow ease of access. The combat knife will be mounted in a sheath on the front right side of the chest plate, with the handle turned down and left to allow easy pull for my left hand (because I'm a south paw). In that configuration it'll also allow easy access for the right hand, just not as easy. I'm going to try to make a tension lock sheath for it, so that the knife will just pop in and out. The knife and tommohawk will be made from pine wood boards that I have left over from a failed attempt at a rifle.
What do you guys think about this for firepower?
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...80Tactical.jpg
Are these options for a gun? Because they look really "real" and not star warsy...MORE MODDING! :b ;)
Maybe he killed an Endor Rebel and took his weapon. They weren't modded much either.
Actually... they are modded A280s, which yes is the Endor Commando Rifle. Check out wookiepedia, it's a pretty solid piece of kit but I don't like the whole long barrel version. Mine will be a bit more... customized. I'll probably add a little bit more to it but the big changes are I shortened the barrel, added a cheekpiece to the stock and trimmed the buttplate down, also added some muzzle devices just to make it look more tactical. Here's some pictures of the originals.

http://www.studiocreations.com/howto...le_diagram.jpg
And this one is the Hoth and Endor rifles compared... as you can see neither are modded too much so it'll be easier on me, and it's an "in universe" piece of kit, so it should pass muster. One is an AR15 (which I can EASILY build up) and the other is a German Sturmgehwer 44.
http://www.studiocreations.com/howto...comparison.jpg
ahh...lol. was never a fan of that rifle for that very reason. lol. But hey, if it works! ;) :D
lol I just need something tactical... and it's kinda there. Any progress on the buy'ce ner vod?
hey, as long as you like it ner vod, go for it!
And actually yes...sanded the hell outta it and it's starting to look more correct and less blocky...gah! I need to take some pics and show you what I mean...
lol yes! Pics would help very much!
lmao no kidding! Where has everyone been anyways? A'd'ika... pics! lol Don't make me get Adonian's whip!
Apparently Adonian has been moving &c., Levi's been job searching, I've been slowly crushed under loads of college work, I dont know about anyone else...lol.
And NOT THE WHIP! :b I'll get on that ner vod...I just hate posting pics when it's like just not quite perfect....yet...
lol yeah I've been really busy at work... you'd think there was a war on or something! lmao anyhow, yeah I've actually almost got the armor done, I'm still trying to get a few more pieces/parts made and painted, then I'll be ready to rock!
A'd'ika... any pics? Oh Ado'ika... I need your whip ner vod! lol As for the kit, I'm still working... a little slow right now due to work and the fact that my wife keeps planning out every second of my weekends. I'll see what I can do about getting something done this evening. May have some time tomorrow afternoon. Anyhow, I've also decided to go with a bit of a camo pattern, but I'm not sold on which one yet.
cant go wrong with multi cam
Just been telling him to use multi cam for a while now...It would go with the coyote and be different.
the multi cam doesn't look like normal "earth" camo to me. It would probably translate well to a custom mando.
lol I may use multicam eventually... but it's not going on my plates ner vod. I was referring to the armor itself, not the undersuit. I too like multicam, and I was one of the guys who was pushing for wider adoption of the stuff when we got the ABUs, instead we got the ABU pattern, which is fine when working in urban environments or when working with the Army because it helps us blend in with them, but I've noticed a lot of our combat airmen (spec ops guys) don't wear the ABUs in the field. Instead, it seems like they opt for the older BDUs and multicam fairly frequently.
also... started on the frame for my A280 Tactical Carbine... however due to weather in the area I'm going to have to put it on pause for the time being. Pics when I can.
hey A'd'ika any news on my bucket ner vod?
Yeah, it's still sitting there...with PCC coming up in the next few days it hasnt gotten any work. I'm kinda stressing my shebs over here trying to get some of the other AZ boys finished in time to go...
lol understood. Dude I've been so swamped the last 2 weeks. I've had a REALLY busy work schedule, in fact I was at work 13 hrs today, 12 yesterday and 10 on Friday, and that's the norm lately. Average duty day has been 10-14 hrs the last 2 weeks. I did some work on the blaster rifle this weekend, but I've been so busy haven't had a chance to take any pictures.
Hey guys! I have some pics for ya! Ok vode, here's the progress work on my carbine. Some of you may see it and think... that looks a little odd, is that a hinge there? Well the answer would be ABSOLUTELY! lol Yes I added a HINGED stock! Still working on it, but the idea is a hinged stock with a hook mechanism that I can use to lock it in the open position. So... opinions? Comments? Let me know what you guys think.

just a quick update... more work has been done! No pics right yet, I want to let the glue dry and do a bit more fitting to everything before I post those up, but keep an eye out!
Love it vod collapsalble stock is awesome! and i love the m-4 body great work man
Adonian has RETURNED!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzttttt CRACK!! NOW GET TO WORK!!
:lol
Man is it hard to pay off 10 grand in credit debt... (still got a loooong way to go) and me and the family living at my parents house is REAALLLY stressing the wifey out.
Worse yet.. I have NO room to do anything Mando related, so I will be her just to hang out and give advise.
I'll check in every few days.
@ Jango: Thanks ner vod! It's slow but it's going to be quite nice when finished... I THINK
@Adonian: Easy with the whip ner vod! I'm still working! lol I know the feeling on the other subjects tho... we had to live with my folks for 6 months between school and active duty, and we owed/owe a lot thanks to school and other such necessary expenses. Speaking of which...
Unfortunately the real world is kicking my shebs right now... I've been on those nice long 12-16 hr days for the last several weeks. Flying A LOT, and trying to get ready to go get into this fight we've got going right now. The wife's going back to school for her RN, so I'm having to pay for that and have lost some of my budget for the armor (because it ain't coming out of the gun fund) lol. I have ALMOST everything built/resined... need to do some bondo work on it and get it painted, plus I'm looking into soft parts AND... building my blasters on the weekends. Will be out of touch next week, got some military stuff I have to go do, but I'll get back to work when I get home. Promise.
Kal
I wouldn't expect anything less than the best from you, and I plan on catching up to you guys soon.
I'm gonna go look for Levi.
well bad news vode. My gaunts and shins were left in the floor of the garage when I went on TDY last week. We got record rainfall in the OKC area and my garage got a lil wet. Long story short, gaunts and shins were ruined. I guess it's back to step 1 on those.
that no good vod , hopefully you can get them redone some time
btw the gun looks sweet so far!
C
thx ner vod. I have more done on the rifle, I'll try to get some updated pics up.
quick update... The Rifle is almost finished. I have just a few small finishing touches to get done and it'll be ready to paint. Also, I have a custom made combat knife that's ready to prime and paint. I made it myself, it's a wooden knife and I'm actually so proud of how it turned out I'm thinking about offering my services making these things. I made mine in the span of a week, and my wife said it looks vicious. I'll post some pics of both the rifle and the knife this evening.
Ok vode, here's the pics I promised... first up is the combat knife, just because I'm so freaking proud of it. I'm actually thinking about offering my services making custom knives for fellow mando'ade. What do you guys think?
One of the Knife by itself, one of it in my hand for scale purposes. It has a 5.5 inch blade, with a bolo recurve for a heavier front end (more forceful thrusts and slashes) and a partially sereated blade. All safely dulled and rounded of course since this is a prop.
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/DSCN1691.jpg
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/DSCN1689.jpg
now for the carbine. The stock is not attached yet, that's why it looks so darn long. The stock tube will actually fit up inside of the buttstock itself when finished. It was deliberately done with a slightly Verpish design. Also, the white piece of PVC is the forearm that will cover all of the random pieces that are glued under the barrel. The muzzle has a properly dulled strike face with an oval shaped emitter.

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/DSCN1688.jpg
impressive Kal! How much do you plan on selling these for?
the knives? Oh probably $25-$30 shipped inside CONUS. I think to ship one to Candada would be about the same tho
Thssssssssss Nice progress, Took a year, but Nice progress, I've Pretty much scraped everything and started over EXCEPT MY GAUNTLET PLANS, and one shoulder, for some reason, I can't find the other one, Yeah So I've been gone for a year, what about it
Sorry bout the double post, but Kal'ika, How much would i have too pay you too buy me a Surplus BDU? and Molle Vest, I feel like doing that instead of flak vest
umm... well we don't have BDUs anymore, we get the ABUs now and that's all they have in the BX, which I cannot buy for you. I could get in trouble for that. As for a MOLLE vest, we actually can't buy those here. I have to order my stuff online just like everyone else. I recommend www.cheaperthandirt.com... which has BDUs as well.
Ooooooo Funz, Its because The Cost for surplus uniforms in canada are outrageous unless you ship online, and then shipping in canada for surplus uniforms is ridiculous, I think i might just buy from an Airsoft shop, because for some apparrent reason the surplus for uniforms clock at either 30-50 and molle vests are like 50
yeah actually it's about the same everywhere I guess. Our BDUs were $30 a set when we had those, the new uniforms run about $60 a set, and that's for US to buy them, I don't wanna know what they run surplus.
Whats the difference Between Uniforms?
material and capability, plus the pattern is a USAF proprietary pattern, it's trademarked and everything.
Oh, what fun
So the uniform sizes are the same as Mens adult so if I'm a medium I would have to wear a medium ACU?
uh... dunno honestly, ours are based on chest size. For example I wear a 38 Reg in my ABUs, where as I wore a Medium Reg in BDUs, but I don't have ACUs so I don't know how their sizing runs.
more progress... still on the rifle this time. However, it's so close to finished I may work on the plates again next week so stay tuned! lol.

http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/DSCN1714.jpg
http://i756.photobucket.com/albums/x...4/DSCN1713.jpg
Awesome! This is a dumb question but how did you connect all the pieces of wood? Glue? Nails? Both? I'm thinking about building my own weapons out of wood like you're doing.
glue and woodscrews... no nails in there but I do have a lot of woodscrews to hold together the main pieces, and I used Gorillaglue Woodglue to hold the majoriy of it together.
I fell In love with your Rifle Kal.... Can I be like a marine and sleep with it?
lol es my rifle, u wanna do that u'll have to get ur own.
Well, Imma need too make a rifle nao
actually... I think I may make a new rifle... I came up with a pretty awesome idea that's a lil more Swarzy using an enfield action and magazine, m4 stock and pistol grip and some pieces of PVC, and some ideas i got from the Fallout 3 Laser Rifle. As for the armor, well I now know a time frame I NEED to get it done in. I want to have this kit ready by Halloween, so I'll be REALLY hitting it hard over the next few weeks to get it all together. After reviewing some threads over on the mercs, I think I will be greening out and making myself into a Mandalorian Protector.
and it's a bit easier... the shin plates are in the works right now, I'll have those done shortly I hope. Then I'll be working on Spats, vest, thighs and the gaunts were actually mostly salvageable so... I still have gaunts, they just need to be finished. Maybe after this weekend and next weekend I'll have most of a suit.
I NEED HELP!!! I need to have this kit done by Halloween, 31 Oct 2010, however... I'm going on TDY for 1-2 weeks on the 18th of October so, it really has to be done before then. I need to fix/finish the following items:
1. Shins- Somebody please tell me the best way to make a good set of shins because ALL of my attempts thus far have failed miserably.
2. Vest- I have plates, I have a vest... but I have no way to attach the plates to my vest! My vest is a nice MOLLE plate carrier, that I do NOT want to damage. Therefore I need to find a way to attach the plates via the MOLLE straps and I have a VERY limited budget... and ideas would be great.
3. Knees- Somebody please tell me how to make a good pair of knees... everything I've tried thusfar has failed miserably.
4. Shoulders- I need some suggestions for attaching the shoulders to the suit, they need to be the type that flow with the arms.
5. boot plates- I had plans to make spats, but due to problems with not knowing how to sew correctly and not able to pay someone to sew it for me, it ain't gonna work... somebody tell me how to attach these things to the boots.
Unfortunately with the new rank and new job title, a possible deployment looming and the fact that this kit has been a WIP for 2 years now I'm running out of time. Add to that the fact I've already spent a LOT of money on this, my wife's getting fed up and frankly so am I. I REALLY want to finish this kit soon, or I'm going to have to abandon it. Help me vode... you're my only hope!
Ok...
1 and 3: combine the shins and the knees to make a full pair of greaves. Lots more comfortable and far more practical than seperated pieces.
http://www.google.com/images?q=greav...w=1440&bih=707
Get a round plastic trash can, trace your design, cut it out, form it up, add straps, paint, and go!
2: ...no idea...mando armour and MOLLE have never been friends it seems...
4: Attach them around the top straps of your MOLLE rig. sticky backed velcro.
5: go with actual plates on the boots. like so:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/...&id=1396557142
It's really simple to make, then you just run a strap to your greave and another under your boot (use elastic) and it stays on perfectly.
You can do this ner vod! OYA!!!
1. Shins/boot plates- Personally I'd go with the trashcan method. Shape them with a heat gun, and voila. I'd use plastic cement to attach elastic bands that you can just slip the armor on and off. Basically like Skip did here. http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showt...l=1#post464724
2. Vest- MOLLE clips I would think would be the best choice for not damaging your vest.
3. Shoulders- If they're gonna be permanently attached to the shoulders of your jumpsuit, I'd again go with plastic cement.
4. Knees- Ooooh. Tough one, bro. I'm not the right guy to ask on this one.
OK, plan is to acquire a boba vest, use snaps to put plates on the vest and straps to wear my shins I guess. I still want to do the traditional knees, I'm going for a protector style kit. Shoulders should attach to a boba vest easily enough. I'm going to try my best to sand down and fill/paint the shins over the next few days. They have 3 layers of fibreglass on 'em and 1 layer of resin on the inside. The gaunts need to be finished, they've got about 4 layers of resin outside, and 2 inside with fibreglass touchups around the seams. I still need to place hinges on those and get 'em painted up.
sorry guys I'll get some pictures up as soon as I can, I had a family emergency and had to go out of town for a few days.
EDITED: DISREGARD
