Kal Skirata Kal is marrying Rav

Torment

New Hunter
Well I am getting married in January and in true nerd fashion we are getting married in Mando gear. We both are huge fans of the Republic Commando books and Kal and Rav are our two favorite mando'ade from the books. I will be dressing the part of Kal and have been working on the suit a bit now. I have most of the armor done. She will be dressing as Rav and I am getting into building this as best I can.

This is my helmet. I based it on the few obscure images of Kal. I know the black on the inner cheek is not right, but I thought it looked better. I just weathered it yesterday so it has a bit more of a grime to it now than that shiney look it has in this picture.

The rest of my armor has been hand built by me. I cant afford the top notch parts since as much as I hate to say it, they are just way to expensive. Most of the armor is replicable if you just do the extra foot work. I have sheets of ABS and have been cutting and heat forming. I think I spent 40 dollars on plastic and have been able to make an entire suit.

Ill post pics of them when get home later.

What I am really proud of is the knees. I really thought that this would be a part I would have to buy since I wasn't sure I could make them look right. I didn't want to just do round and flat. I really wanted them to have a proper shape. So after lots and lots of work, I figured out how I wanted to do it. and got them to shape just right.

I then did my fiance's knees the same way. I think you can gather her size difference from me. My knees are built off of my own plans that make them similar looking to Jango, but distinct and slightly different. Alison's knees are completely unique to her costume and a complete one of a kind.

I have done her chest armor I will also post that up later. But I really wanted to get some stuff up here today. I can't wait to post the rest that I have done.

this is totally Awesome! My wife and I love those books too. We really can't wait to see your pics from your special day! Congratulations Vod !

Best wishes to you and your wife fellow geek!

NOTE:I use the term geek as a show of affection for fellow star wars enthusiasts of all kind.

great work so far! what are you doing for gauntlets? if you need some rotj boba style ones for anything i can give you a pair as a wedding present.

This is very cool! Congrats!

Show us pics when you finally reach the big day! (maybe I can convince my wife to renew our vows in Star Wars style when we hit our 15 year anniversary!)

You inviting the garrison to come I imagine? Whens the date?

LOL if I had that kind of Money I totally would. Its gonna be a small wedding with about 35 people in attendance. Mostly because thats what we can afford. We are getting Married in January so time is pushing.

As for her guantlets, I am using a pair of kid boba gauntlets I came across for a great price. 15 bucks. They were vac pulls and in really bad shape. But I have cleaned up the edges and added a few things here and there to make them look good again. I should have pics of those up soon. working my rear off to get this done as fast as possible!

Well if you want my old sintra shin tools lemme know pay shipping and theyre yours bud, and if u need sintra hit me up on PM and I know one of the guys who can get it for u

Ok here is the Torso Armor. I have to add a bit more color distinction as I feel it has a bit of Blocking feel. But I will work on it and get it right.

This is a shot of the completed knees. I just got the aluminum knee darts in from Fenixprops yesterday. They were much smaller than I was thinking they were gonna be, but then again im much more buff than Jeremy ever was. So I figure its about half right in size.

This is a pic of Her gauntlets. I had to add a top fire button since the vacuform parts are really, really soft pulls. The left guant is still just taped together for sizing issues. Thanks to Brian, I may be able to replace these with something far better!

Lastly, here is a pic of her torso armor.

It's only half done and half painted, but its going to be the shape its gonna be. I changed ever so slightly some of the curveture to have a more organic feel. The longer narrower lower part of the chest made it look unprotecting. So I adapted the shape to give it a more armored feel with a more in sync mando style.

Jason this is looking good...are you gonna make the Kal armor Gold? Pretty sure its supposed to be gold right?

Looking at the pics it may be gold but flash playing tricks?

That's the color I painted it. Its a sand gold color. However the paint color is called champagne gold. I didn't want to go all 14kt yellow on this. Seems wrong somehow.

So I decided to tackle another project that I wasn't sure I could to on my own but have been finding to be easy. I am making a girth belt and pouches. for my suit. I wanted to go with a jango style belt since that is what is seen in the films, and looks more real in my mind. Really I got a great deal on my leather. for less than 100 bucks I had enough leather do to the bandolier for my Tarfful suit, I got my girth belt backing, and 8 pouches out of it. I could make more, but no real need as far as I can tell. I think I also have enough scraps to make a holster for my sidearms. I think Kal is only supposed to have one, but I am going for more ****** than right. Well I will be getting cord, for my girth soon. I really liked the rope meathod I saw on here, then dying it. I cant wait to get that done. Next on my list of things will be to make the hip pouches. Well here is a pic from like 2 this morning. Insomnia can be great some times.

Ok let me catch everyone up on what I have been able to do so far.

1. The girth belt is finished. I took a page our of a thread I saw here and glued braided cord to the leather backing. Then dyed it brown to match the rest of the suit. kinda a cross between Boba and Jango on this one.

2. Ammo belt is done. Jango style belt. Making the pouches was not that hard and straping them to a belt blank was easy enough. I dyed the belt to match the dark colors of the gloves.

3. Gloves. Yay Walmart!

4. Surprise for me. My fiance has been maskerading as me and got me gauntlets. What better way to hide things for me then being me and not telling me. LOL

5. Back Armor and bells aquired from RKD. Gotta clean them up and reshape a bit to fit, but those should be done this weekend.

6. Fiance's gaunts are just about done. Gotta add the missle to it it. I dunno how accurate they are to any try art work, but then again, each person I have seen do this costume has done it slightly different.

7. Rav torso armor is done.

8. All plastic for remaining parts is on order and will be picked up soon.

Things to do.

1. Both sets of thigh, shin, and foot armor.

2. Flight suits and vests.

3. Her helmet.

4. Cape for rav

5. Belt for Rav.

6. Leather shoulder details.

This arrived at my door yesterday and I started work on it today. This is my 5th or 6th Mando helmet build for either myself or someone else. But I got it from a raw pull to this in just about 9 hours. Im quite impressed with myself for a days work. Thought Id share it with all of you. I am building the whole suit to go with it as well. I have about 90 percent done as of today. I moddified some areas to make it more in line with what Mando's look like than the art work. Ill post pics when I can later.
