    Just starting out tips welcome!

Hey everyone well i have decided to creat my own custom mandalorian costume and i was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some pointers. i have been surfing this site for a few days now and i have templates for the helmet and some concept art finished. i was wondering what would be the best material to work with for a first timer. and where could i get it. any comments would be greatly appreciated!

The best thing to do really is read through as many threads as possible. This site is full of pointers, but you're going to have to invest a good chunk of time to discover them

If you're working on a helmet, start in the helmet section and just browse through the various titles. It takes a lot of time, but it's going to benefit you to do the research.
Plus, it's part of the fun making your costume !

Also, try the Mandalorian Mercenary site in conjunction with this site. They have info there as well.

Good luck, take your time, and have fun !

Timmer gives good advise! Reading and research are your best friends! Try antman and digifett's threads (do a search for their names) they have some great material for a first time bucket.

The two posts above are pretty much correct on all points.

Most custom mandos are built out of plastic or PVC foamboard (known as Sintra). The cheapest way is usually by using the trashcan method. Some people have even used cardboard or cardstock layered over with resin and fiberglass.

Patience cannot be stressed enough! You need to have patience and really look around to see what others have done. You can always pop over to the Mandalorian Mercs site also for help, we have tons of catagorized tutorials.

Same as the above advice. Im slowly planning mando builds x2, working on
a clone trooper, and maintaining the family jedi costumes. I probably have
spent 80% of the time reading/making notes and 20% of the time in the
garage. Ive learned to enjoy the reading and touching base with all the
other fans/builders out there is like a hobby all on its own anyway. Welcome to the gang and good luck! If you want to do something fun while doing your research -build one of your weapons!

Hey. All this advice is great! Ill take all of this into consideration when im working on mine. Im now interested in this PVC board.
But just keep planning (you can never enough plans) If u havn't already make a sketch of your full mando it will really help with planning your mandos details. When its sketched up you'll come up with ideas you havn't thought of yet!

Give that a try and see what you come up with.

You could also start posting any pictures of your progress.

    Well have fun

sintra really isnt board. it depends on the thickness you get. go with ABS if youre conna make plastic plates. use .90mil

stay away from .4 or .6 thats good for other things, but not armor. too flimsy.

go get a sheet of sheet metal or aluminum or steel from the store. only about 20 bucks for what youd need.

Yes, the postings are very complete, it appears. I've already seen several ways to do produce a similar item. Things like budget, time, use and skill all come into play. It is all here, though! Thanks from another new guy.
