If it's a light colour then I would say yes, BUT you may need to research the flightsuit material to get the right dye.

I'm not too sure if Bleaching the suits would get the old dye out or not, someone with a little more experience than me would need to answer that.

If you leave the old colour in, it would effect the new colour.

Technically, you should head over to Wal*Mart if you have one in your area and pick up some leather material. There you can make your vest. I tried searching for already made vests and nothing really came up. Well some stuff came up but nothing that would fit me as I am a small person and therefore need a small vest LOL!

Now as for attaching the plates there are a number of ways.....industrial velcro, bolts, snaps, and harnesses. Epoxy can be use to get the overall toughness in your armor which is what I am doing with my cardboard armor. I am placing cereal box's over the top of them and pushing them together then using adhesive to keep the armor firm.

I have not actually gotten to Wal*Mart yet to get the leather material. But if you live in the area that I live in...you will want to use velcro or snaps. But if you are aiming towards where you want the armor already attached then might as well go with velcro or snaps. You might want to look in the crafts section at Wal*Mart or just go to a crafts store. They have all that stuff you need to make a vest.

use snaps. put the male side on the vest and then epoxy the female side on the inside of your armor. actually, turn that around, put the female side on the armor first, find where you want the armor to sit, mark it, then put the male side to the vest.

yes, snaps or industrial Velcro (the sew on kind on the vest the glue kind on your plates)

use Duck-cloth or marine vinyl for the vest.

You could theoretically make the vest extend lower into a "coat and tails" kind of look, but I think it might be hard to move around. After all, your belts are going to be going over your vest, and with that much fabric hanging in the back it'll be like wearing a shirt tucked in that's way way too long.

    Just my opinion.

If you want the tails, I'd suggest something like a Kama. I'd post pictures, but I'm at work on a lame computer. Dang.

Anyway, a kama is a piece of fabric or armor that covers your backside, and hangs lower than the upper edge of your thighs. Some call it a skirt, but it doesn't have to go all the way around. It would probably work better for you movement wise, since it would just be attatched to your belt.
