Jaster Mereel Jaster pistols

Cruzer

Well-Known Hunter
I started work on some Jaster pistols this last weekend for a couple of members, and decided to use the toy rebel blaster grip as my base for sizing purposes. It still has quite a ways to go before being done, but I'm satisfied with the progress so far. My goal is to mold this master and eventually make these in either the Task 13 or 16 bendable resins available from Smooth-on.

Thanks guys. Made a lot of progress today and finished it off with a coat of Valspar which does wonders in smoothing everything out. The scope was made by cutting up a $9 scope from Walmart. The back part was cut from one of my resin gauntlet missiles and then sanded down to decrease the diameter. Just need to dial in a few small details. I'd also like to see if I can find some red lenses to glue in place at the front of the scope like in the reference pic.

Unfortunately I haven't had enough free time lately to mold this blaster, but I did get a chance to make a set of holsters for another member's Jaster blasters. It was difficult trying to get a consistent design from the comics, so I mainly used the action figure references and did the best I could to accommodate the blasters' construction.

Thats awesome. how did u do the barrel?
The barrel is just a collection of PVC piping that I fit into or onto one another. However, I began by inserting a piece of 1" PVC pipe in the hollowed out rebel blasters' original barrel. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys. Well I gave the holsters a coat of atoms wax to seal the color, misted them with some Rustoleum dark grey primer, and followed up by rubbing them down with some fine steel wool to bring out some highlights here and there. A little weathering goes a long way in enhancing amateur leatherwork. They are officially done and ready to be shipped off to their owner.

First resin casts of my scratch built Jaster pistol. They each have a 1/2" diameter wood armature running through the center of the barrel for strength, with 8-32 threaded steel armatures screwed into the wood and that go up into the stems for the scope. Each trigger guard also has a 3/32" diameter wire armature for strength. I hope to start on the mold for the scope this weekend. [emoji106]

The scope mold is finally done and the first casts are made with 3/8" diameter wood armatures for strength. Now begins the holster making! [emoji848]

Had some extra time on my hands last night so I tried creating an industrial rubber version using some Task 16 resin I already had on hand. I'm happy with the yielded results, and the overall weight is only about 1.5oz more than its 13.9oz resin counterpart. The rubber did have to be pre-tinted using smooth-on black dye added to both parts A and B to get this deep of color. It hasn't been painted.

I wouldn't mind casting an occasional pair for the serious Jaster costumers striving for comic book accuracy. Unfortunately, I have other projects I'm working on and just don't seem to have the time I used to for making props. However, once I get these initial casts and their holsters in the hands of the member who I undertook this custom build for, I'll throw whichever casts they didn't want in the cargo hold.
