Isabet project

Devilstar2k2

Active Hunter
I have a build thread going over at Mercs, so I'm only gonna post finished (or mostly finished) pics in this one.

Here's where I'm at right now, but I have every piece paid for that I need for the costume, except for the jetpack rocket (hurry up f4r! =P) .

The goal:

Here we go, this one might be a bit more clear... I was actually taking a pic of the sanded helmet (doing a repaint for a garrison mate), but found myself squeezing them both in the shot. Don't mind the mess.

EDIT-

It's still not quite showing as orange as it looks in person. Next time, I'll get my camera out and use the flash. Also, that dark green visor isn't permanent. I have a shade 5 on the way. That one is too 'emerald' for me. The shade 5 could be too green still (against the yellow) and I might have to get one of those smoke ones from ebay.

Got the RF drilled and assembled today, and hinged the gaunts. They still need some trimming though. I was in a hurry to get them together. I still need to get nozzles and put the flamethower together as well. Also, does anybody know anyone who makes the whipcord housing for the opposite gauntlet?

EDIT-

Nevermind on the whipcord housing... Just found one. :)

Who built them, or vac'd them? I built them, Stormtrooperguy made the shells. They were B/C pulls that I snagged at a discount. :)

EDIT-

All of the parts are either; 'seconds', scratch built, or rebuilt, besides the helmet and Woodchuck blaster. This was supposed to be a budget build, but its been coming out really nice. None of the seconds stuff has really been that bad, imo. Well, the jetpack is pretty ugly, but it was dirt cheap so I can't complain.

I would cut that vac'd top hose fitting off the right gauntlet, patch the hole with some sheet styrene, and let me send you one of my gauntlet hose fittings to attach.(y) Regardless, looking good so far. The hinge job looks super clean.

The hinge job looks super clean.

Its not... I have some gaps there. :(

Thanks for the offer on the hose fitting, but Isabet doesn't seem to have any hoses. I'm just gonna leave it as is. I was actually pretty excited that I wasn't gonna have to do much to it. ;)

Okay, so I had a miserable night. My pattern for the vest was off. I did the chest measurements, and added a taper, but for some reason didn't total up the length of all three pieces at the bottom. What I ended up with is a vest that will fit my wifes chest/shoulders/neck, but won't even fit my 9 year old's waist. It really sucks too, because this thing is like 1/2" thick and stuffed with batting and everything. Other than not being able to fit, it's actually pretty nice. :(

I have to tweak the pattern to correct the problem and start over. If everything had worked out, I was going to dye it to match the edging color, which is a medium charcoal (also, the color of my wife's Red Kap suit).

I guess its alright for my first time out... Plus, it was done on a temperamental 40 year old machine. We are gonna go machine shopping this week and also buy a darker fabric from the start this time.

Pic of epic fail:

Yeah, the gaunts are a prototype / work in progress, which is why I haven't said much about them.

On my resin gaunts, the hose connector is molded in so they come out all one piece (lazy design!). I just carve the lines in with a dremel to make it look like a separate piece, but it makes assembly easier and makes 'em nice and strong.

For the vac ones I'm waffling between cutting it off the ultracal master and making a separate piece, or leaving them that way for "quick and dirty". I'll probably cut it out, but I'm not sure yet. The niche I'm going for with these is less super accurate and more budget-Fett. I want a pair of gaunts with all the resin parts to be around $80 at the most, so I want them to be easy to make!

Okay... We have blasters... The Woodchuck came out a bit lighter than the pistol. I'm gonna mist it and redo the edging when my airbrush arrives.
