Looks AWESOME!!! Did you make it from cardboard???
No dont tell him the secrets...
uh oh... that's an awesome bucket A'd'ika!
I built mine from cardboard!!! *turns away indignant* j/k
I made mine from cardboard too, its the cheapest way
mmg- thanks man!
Adonian and FF- All the detailing (dragon, knot work, eye &c.) is all 1mm plastic. The rest of the helmet is...ah, just check out the original helmet thread...
Kal'ika- Still waiting to start yours...do you have any concept art or referance yet?
There are a few things more I want to do to this helmet, so stay tuned!
he he... noooo... lol I've been swamped at work, and this week ain't lookin' much better but I'll try to get it done asap.
wow... i think otherworldly would suffice for description. i mean... wow...
dangly good job on that bucket A'den!!
Alright vode! I have some lit up pics now!!! (I got all my electrical work done last night):

looks great vod! how did you do the stretching design? I kinda looks like those leather belts, u know? Great work!!
I LIKE IT! Kandosii ner vod!
It looks amazing! Well done my friend
Thanks guys! I just finished getting the range finder fixed (I had to replace the entire thing, with a metal one...) So, a few more tweeks, and I'll post up some finished (yeah right...) pics.
get the range finder fixed yet?
Sounds good, but be sure to diffuse it so it's a soft eerie glow. Makes your target fear you more when he see's this glowing eye lookin at him.
Ok, so I have decided NOT to do the light in the dragon's eye. Saz pointed something out that I might have overlooked; to many lights=christmas tree mando. Which I'd rather NOT be the first one of those...
x-mas tree mando
Gotta change your colors to red and green
Wait a minute, those are Fett's colors...HMMM
OK then! If it's good enough for Fett, then it's good enough for me!
...I'm still not doing it...
That bucket is sweeeeet!! Kandosi, vod!
Alright vode, I just went out and bout a 4'X10' sheet of 18ga cold-rolled steel. It's massive...I've traced all my patterns onto the sheet, and I plan on having my plates cut out by the end of the day, so stay tuned for pics!!!
oooh... metal plates! sounds great ner vod can't wait to see it! I think I'll stick to the lighter weight plastic plates tho. Going to go get my MOLLE vest to use for my AFSOC mando soon, just have to pick a color pretty much, and save a few bucks to buy it with.
:O wow ner'vod!!! You are moving up on the protection ladder!! :P
sooner or later he'll actually be bullet proof
he he he... believe it or not...lol I was actually considering using my actual MOLLE plate carrier as my vest for my SAS mando... can't use it for my AFSOC one because I need a different color, mine is black
What would you be doing in your kit vod?
@Levi: Oh nothing much... just easier to attach plates to MOLLE webbing than anything else I've found.
@A'den: He he that makes 2 of us goin that route ner vod! lol jk
wow your helmet looks amazing!! Great job!
robbing banks in your kit kidding haha
I think the only porblem with any of us knocking over a bank in out armor is... we all know who's behind the bucket.
lol true since we're all so unique... except for the Fett replicas... they all look alike! lol I wouldn't advise knockin' off banks tho... could be hazardous to your health, and ur freedom
haha ***THIS JUST IN, AFSOC MANDO ROBS BANK!!*** hmmmmmm KALLLLL!!!!!
IT WASN'T ME!!! lol
A'den! Wicked bucket! Loooove it.
Yeah A'd'ika does some fine work... can't wait to see what he's got for mine!
i wouldnt have been able to make my blob without his help
hey A'd'ika any progress? Haven't heard from u in a few days... oh yeah I'll PM u back sometime in the next few days.
Yeppers, I am still alive and active... I've been helping Dem'ika on his stuff and working on my metal gear. I'm just missing a few more pieces...then you all shall see it...
And yes, send me a PM!!!
I'll prolly update this post with some info before I head out to Cali on Friday. I'll be gone till Sunday, so there will be no updates in that period...
SWEET!!! Glad to see u're still kickin'! lol
Hey A'd'ika! if you dont mind me calling you that as well Im not sure if you've checked out my mando sketch thread butttt i was wondering if you wanted to have your mando in the group sketch? If you do and theres any changes on your kit just send me a pm, and make sure you post in my thread that you want your mando in
Totally Levi!!! That'd be great! And sure!!! A'd'ika is totally fine.
And...I have no update pics...BUT I did get all the upper body armour (Chest, ab, collar, shoulder and bicep) all hammered out today...I have MOST of that painted...
Maybe picture for you tomorrow...
maybe?!?!? how about DEFINATLY! i want to see this, vod
I'm leaving for cali tomorrow, so if I have time, I'll post a few before I head out.
alright Have a great trip!
I shall indeed...Silent Planet (my favorite band) is playing in Oceanside...just 5 minutes walk down the beack from my grandma's condo...so perfect...
So I have no idea how I missed this thread until now, but dadgum that is a gorgeous bucket! I agree with the dude earlier who said it's almost steam punk, I like it a lot. and the dragon, words can't tell how cool I think that is. I might just steal that idea. A'den you're skill astound me.
I want to see the armor!
Of course that being said, how many builds do you have going vod? TOR, this set, the modular b/sfg, and doing stuff for friends? where do you find the time? Do youself and all of us a favor man, SLOW DOWN and/or TAKE PLENTY OF BREAKS!!!
Don't go and burn out on us, ok?
Silent Planet.. hmm ive never heard of them Guess i better search em up!
have a safe/fun trip ner vod.
Levi, look em up...they are really amazing...
SM- thanks! and no worries about the burnout...I have so many projects going that if i burn on one i just move onto another...ensue repetative cycle. And this armour is really close to being done actually...
what genre are they?
Celtic. With a bit of a modern twist... I'd link you to their site but I cant copy and paste on this crazy DSi.
Hey guys!!! I just wanted to let ya'll know that once I get my hammers and anvil back (loaned em to a friend) then all I have left are a few more plates...Pictures to come very soon...
Hi vode!!! I have some update pics for ya'll!!!
My uppers (minus the ab plate which I made to big and gave to Dem, and the diamond which is lurking somewhere in my garage...)
My bicep plates:
My shoulder bells:
And my favorite, my greaves!!!
Plates I am missing (except for the diamond, which is MISSING, but I have it...somewhere) :
-Thigh (cut out but unformed)
Anyways, oya manda!
WOAH!! I cant wait to see the painting/weathering, that's gonna kick shebs!
Hi, sorry for being a total noob but I have a quick question. I have been thinking of making myself an armor set, and the idea of making one out of steel like you are doing is pretty cool, I am wondering, what tools would I need, how hard is it, and were did you get the steel? Also, how did you make your helmet? I have been looking arround for threads but I keep getting lost in all the sub-forums and everything lol
(FYI your armor and helmet look totally awesome!)
Hey mate! No problem! We all needed a place to start!
I'm using for the armour 18ga steel. Many people use thicker with better results, but I was flat broke. The method I use to form the steel is Beviin's, which can be found here:
For the helmet, I would look in the Boba Helmet section and check out the stickies there, there's some really great info.
Tools are listed in the video and cost is around $100 for them and the metal.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the help!
he has plates!!! And they're metal! kandosii ner vod, looks great!
Looks sweet vod looking forward to seeing it done.
how about you donate those awesome pieces to a fellow vod?!?! kidding! Im going to have to get my sorry butt up and start working faster!
Vor'e ner vode! I got another piece (left thigh) done today and all the unpainted plates have had a go-over with the wire brush so they are all shiny...now to paint em a nice black...
There was some mention in this thread of a lightwip or swords. If your mando is somewhat melee oriented you might want to make a neck-ring or collar piece for fighting jedi, when boba fett had a beskar armor set made for him in one of the recent novel series a neck-ring was part of the set, so it is canon ^^
just an idea : )
wow, my posts aren't posting ?
Anyway, the laser whip we keep talking about is just us guys taunting each other to get to work.
I am usually the one to crack the whip, and most people here fear the whip
@A'den, dude those greaves look SCA ready vod.
By the way zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztttt crack... I have a question on my thread I need your help with
lol...SCA, perhaps not...but the next person who goes "what is this made of" and punches me is gonna be in some pain...every time I troop SOMEONE has to hit the mando...
I got my stuff painted today (what I have done so far) and I tried something new; I left the metal slightly oily (didnt wipe it all off) and the paint is starting to chip...it's amazing!!! so now I'm going to go back and sand all my other plates, re-oil them, then paint them to get that "real" chipped look.
The next day:
OK vode, LFL has a nation wide event going on October 10th. Break out the whips. I need to haul shebs and get this set done before then...
Last edited by A'den Kyramud; Sep 30, 2009 at 2:13 PM.
the chipping idea sounds great, post pics, I want to see!
*fingers imaginary whip* Looking good, vod! Those shin plates are amazing.
he he that's why u wear a chicken plate underneath... or even better... fiberglass the armor! except u have metal... dang I need a metal set... oh well, looks good ner vod can't wait to see it all together!
haha!! yeah...it get's really old getting hit by idiotic people...
I got several of the plates attached today, and also did a step-by-step tutorial on how to attach plates to the flak vest; I'll have it posted some time tommorow...
Ok bud, here's the crack, you have 10 days to get your armour ready!
Yeah, you're tired, we all are, but if you don't do this, you will look back on this day and think "Why didn't I get up from the ground, pick myself up, dust myself down and toil away until my fingers were slightly chapped?"
If all the Glendalians decided to give up, where would Glendale be today?
Ok, it would be exactly the same place it was last week, but I digress.
Take a look around you at all these cyber faces willing you on, if you can't do it for yourself, do it for Adonian, whose eyes are willing you on and right arm bringing that laser whip down on you, do it for sabermaker, before he sets his wife on you. Do it for little Can'ika, who says she'll kick you in the shebs repeatedly until it's done. If not for them, do it for me, because I know where you live!
So when the sun rises over that purple headed mountain, you've sang allegiance to your flag, look down, look down my son to that armour that mocks you and you will say "You cannot beat me, you may take my soul, but you'll never take MY FREEDOM!" [/patriotic anthem]
Those are very good and persuasive reasons "do it for Adonian, whose eyes are willing you on and right arm bringing that laser whip down on you, do it for sabermaker, before he sets his wife on you. Do it for little Can'ika, who says she'll kick you in the shebs repeatedly until it's done. If not for them, do it for me, because I know where you live!" especially those...I need to work faster...
(wipes tear) that was beautiful Saz...
I have my motivational speach moments...
BTW... I can come up with a nonchalant threat of cartoonish and/or demoralizing physical violence if you like... lol
Speaking of that Kal...I have some interesting new discoveries for the 405th that are gonna help a lot with that helmet...
I was going to do a tutorial today on attaching armour, but I'm out of time, so that will have to wait till tommorow...
Also, I have my bicep plates finished, my greaves almost finished, my shoulder bells attached to the flak vest, and my center diamond was discovered and finished.
I owe you all pictures...
yes... yes u do... lol what's the 405th? Is this a forum I should be looking at?
lol actually... just found the 405th Website... their forums are not bad at all! Ya know my alternate armor (SAS armor) is based heavily on the ODST trooper, a lot of the reference pictures I have came from there (although I didn't know it at the time). Even my armor I am building now has some ODST and Spartan Influences.
yeah, they have some awesome stuff...and some techniques that I think would be invaluable if they were used over here on mando armour...
PS- here's a random link on how to do rondo. This is more for me than anyone, cuz I keep losing this things...
Last edited by A'den Kyramud; Oct 2, 2009 at 1:52 AM.
I feel so stupid, but what is rondo? im guessing something similar to bondo
you never heard of RONDO?!?! You know Roobie Doo and Raggie use it to fix the Mystery Machine
haha! Thats great!!
Rondo = resin + bondo. Great stuff!!!
ALSO, I got a lot of work done on my gear today...but...lol...I have no pictures...
oh ok. What would rondo be used for? would it have been better than bondoglass? I just spent all night watching Clone Wars episodes and the premiere for Season 2
Lol...the plus of rondo is that it is more liquid than bondo, making it pourable... it's good stuff...
Also, I will be double posting here...so oops...
anything that i might want to use it for?
Haha its your thread! Double post to your wildest dreams!
it looks like a MUCH easier way to smooth coat your cardboard.
I will definitely try that one.
Alright, here is my tutorial for using line 20 snaps to attach plates to a flak vest.
1. attach one end of the snaps to the plates using some form of adhesive (JB weld is what I use)
2. Put a bit of brightly coloured paint on the tips of each snap
3. Press the plate into position on the flak vest, making sure each snap presses against the vest.
Once you pull the plate off, it should look like this:
4. Punch holes in the flak vest in the center of the red dots:
5. Get a piece of scrap leather and cut it into 2-3cm squares; punch holes in the center of each:
6. Set the other end of the snap into the vest, backing them with the leather squares:
Once finished, it should look like this:
7. Snap the plate on and go troop!!!
P.S.- any questions, concerns, comments, additions, post em here or shoot me a PM.
that's gotta hold a LOT better than Velcro.
armor can make armor with it. take your trash can armor and pour it on top should make it thicker. or you can make molds of your armor and pour it in that should work.
