I'm starting with the ears and will then mold them and attach resin copies to a BKBT Jango helmet. Only thing I'm unsure of as of today is what the back keys look like. So if I can't find any reference, I'll keep them Jango style.

Thanks bro...it's all due to your inspiration!

Filled the helmet with rigid foam and allowed it to cool overnight. Just finished cutting out the ears.

And a coat of rustoleum flat black to show me the blemishes. I'll let this dry over night and then spray it first thing tomorrow with some professional automotive polyester filling primer.

    Thanks guys!

Ok, here's the final version before beginning the molding process. The rangefinder ear cap is temporarily attached and will be removed for molding separately. I also decided to keep the original Jango keys in order give the helmet some detailing in the back. Please excuse the exposed light areas on the edges as they are the unavoidable result of lightly scouring the helmet with steel wool to make the surface as smooth as possible for molding...

    Jul 6, 2014, 8:27 PM - Helmet project #13

    Thanks guys.

The design of the non-rangefinder ear has bugged me since the beginning of this build. I knew I had to confront the issue before molding or I'd regret it later. So today I added more detailing to it after studying the details and artist's shadowing in the main reference pic for that ear. Now I'm satisfied with beginning the molding process...

First cast in dark cc with a movable rangefinder at the owner's request. The rangefinder is a Jango version that was modified to resemble the comic style. Finally this project has come to a beautiful end ...

Glad you guys approve, thanks. It was a fun project, but a lot of work for just one helmet. Guess that's what I get for agreeing to make attachable comic style ears, and not realizing my prop making OCD would kick in!!

I'll make them on an individual basis. A gel-coat fiberglass version would be the same as my other specialty helmets-$225 shipped in the U.S. However, the finished one seen in the pics above is a "dark cc".
