A Helmet For A Marine

Another quick detail question, should the EGA's (or certain ones) have the ribbon in the eagles mouth (believe it says "Semper Fidelis")? I've seen it both ways, with and without the ribbon..

you'll find that the metal ones found on uniforms do not have said ribbon.
if that helps answer your question for this project purpose

The ribbions worn on the right side (assuming it's the same in the Marines as it was in the Army) are unit awards. Usualy for diffrent wars or engagements the unit was in. The medals/ribbons on the left side are awards the the marine/soldier personaly earned.

have a good one,
James

The USMC unit awards go on the left side along with the the SM awards.

Ive been on both sides of the fence, it took me a long time getting used to the way the Army dose stuff.

Another set of pictures with gauntlets / gloves, other than that minor tweaks..

Missing a couple ribbons as I'm not certain what they are yet, other than that I'm pretty much out of ideas.. Pretty close to a final drawing in my mind, suggestions, ideas, praise and criticism are more than welcome of course! Thanks!!

This, is awesome 8)

Perhaps a kama? Could be black on the outside with red trim and satin fabric underneath in white, tan, or black? Would go with the long coat design of the dress blues. Could even be that short, or the normal long just below the knees.

I have skimmed these forums for a while now because I made a promise to my beloved to make him a complete costume a few years back and never had money/time/etc.

This thread struck enough of a nerve to get me to register. The reaosn why is that besides being a huge geek married to another huge geek, I'm a Marine wife, my husband is active duty, and I do Key Volunteer stuff and live on a Marine base, so I'm up to my ears in Oorah stuff here. I see it every day and I know what's out there.

As far as EGA decals/stickers/etc in appropriate sizes, have you looked at (don't laugh, really) crapbooking diecuts and stickers? I have a bunch of this stuff that I got for the purpose of making non-crapbooking projects. I have This, and it is a layered diecut that costs a little over 2 bucks US and can be easily seperated into components. The EGA is about the right size for the cover. It would have to be impregnated with a clearcoat, but it's a flat lasercut design which I think would work really well if carefully adhered to the helmet, and you would not have to have a custom decal cut.

Window decals could be used for the chevrons. Just suggesting these since I didnt' see anyone else mentioning them. They are smaller than the actual chevrons used on uniforms, since they are for indicating rank on a windshield, but that might work a little better in the context of the costume.

I can add piping to as many areas as possible to match the dress uniform

:)

I have a question about the area, where the colors change from the top of the suit to the bottom of the suit. I don't see how we can make it look like this pic, unless it is like a superman suit.
As a flightsuit, we need to stop at the waistband to change colors, or make something that is closer to the actual jacket and it does not tuck in at the waist, then it would definitely be a two piece outfit, pants and a top.

What do you think?

I can do either when you have these details all decided upon

:)

Welp, its a pretty rough drawing, and very basic.. but heres the concept I came up with.. We're missing ribbons/medals, rank insignias, belt details, possibly red striping on the upper torso.. and obviously gauntlets and boots.. Lots and lots of details to be added, just thought I'd get something out there to get some more input..

will this suit contain a cod and back plate? and do you think the buttons going down the center of the ab plate kind of throws off all the other buttons? they're all in the corners of their armor pieces but the ab is just like, "bam! we're in the center!"

Haha, yeah I struggled with the placement of the buttons.. I should probably re-think that.. Nothing has really been finalized as far as armor pieces, NovallTalon was generous enough to say he'd make some for the project when it gets to that stage..

Read your PM, I think we are on the same page. A seperate top and bottom. With the top close to the actual dress uniform. Keep in mind, it should be a lighter weight material, so it is more comfortable, there will be the layer of the vest, as we discussed and the armor and everything, it can get pretty hot.

**edit very important**

Credit to Bobamaker. :cheers

Mark took Bobamaker's pic to use as a template for the
Marine concept

My hubby came up with this idea, what do y'all think?

For the flightsuit, it must be a 2 piece if it is to be 2 colors and the top must tuck into the pants at the beltline. That is really the only way.

Opinions??

Actually, that looks great. I think doing the chest armor and cod Jango style (chrome) and the shoulders gold metal (rub-n-buff comes in gold too) would look great. the helmet you did below is a little different, but having a two piece "jumpsuit" would be cool, then you can go navy blue up top (w/ red piping) and med. blue for pants with the red stripe on em. Deb I bet you could sew it up to make a one piece suit.

Oh and knees in the gold too.

That's cooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
