It has begun!!.....Custom Mando Underway
Ok, Ive been planning and putting off and planning and putting off.....No its go-time
Im currently in the design/pre-pre production stages of a custom mandalorian costume.
Heres a picture of chest/ab armor I made using the trash can technique.

Any and all comments and suggestions are welcome as I have very little if any clue as to what Im doing. Just making it up as I go
PS, whoever it was that thought of using trash cans for armor...youre a freakin genius!!
Re: It has begun!!.....Custom Mando Underway
Are you using a template to gut these out or is it your own design? So far so good =D I would definitely suggest getting a heat gun and flattening it out. You can always go back and add contour to it before you paint.
Re: It has begun!!.....Custom Mando Underway
Its my own design. Not much to look at but Im still in the design phase
Yeah, I tried flattening it with a hair dryer but i dont have much room to work on it. Might invest in a heat gun later when I have a more stable job, but I have enough to do to keep me busy. Im only working on this as a hobby to keep my brain from going to Jello.
Ive got a lot of good ideas for this costume; including LEDs and, of course, enough weaponry to supply a third-world militia (props, of course!)
To all veteran Mandos...please keep the suggestions coming.
Re: It has begun!!.....Custom Mando Underway
BTW, if anyone out there is wanting to dump a half-decent helmet for a good price, Im in the market. Customized, paint, style etc is no big issue.

Okie dokie...update time
Well, not much to report just now. Ive decided to have three principle weapons; twin pistols and a rifle. I found something I think would make for good sidearms.

Im not sure what they are, but they werent expensive and they have a Star War-sy look. Heres a pic of the box

All it really needs is a faux scope, coat of paint and a few cuts and its okie-day!
Keep checkin'

The armor, when spaced, covers about the area of the normal Boba or Jango armor. Its about 2-3 mm thick, but its very flexible. I tried bending it with a hairdryer, but no use.
The guns were a lucky find, actually. I was looking all around town and popped into a shop and heard this voice behind me screaming "Pick me! Pick Me!" I turned around and there they were!
Ill for sure paint them, but I may leave the grips. They just unscrew anyway. As for the rifle, Im gonna build one from scratch using a toy one as a base. Im collecting bits and pieces from work like scrap pieces of metal and PVC tubing.
Thats all for this week, ladies and gentlemen. Keep the comments and suggestions rollin'. Experience is a wonderful teacher!
Oh, Jodo, I got them from a store called Red 5. They have a website; www.red5.co.uk

Possible star Wars reference? ;)
Re: It has begun!!.....Custom Mando Underway
I immediatly figured it was some sort of Rebel costume site. :lol
Re: It has begun!!.....Custom Mando Underway
Actually, its not.
Thats the name of the store. They have a shop here in Glasgow and sell all kinds of stuff. Though I do appreciate the irony.

Please dont delete this thread
I havent abandoned but Im in a bit of a financial stretch a the moment. Progress has been slowed to what I have now and what I can get from the local Poundsaver.
Although I stopped into a Games Workshop the other day and a clerk was telling me of a neat weathering technique using rock salt that he claims is more realistic and less time consuming than traditonal methods. Has anyone else heard of this?
Im gonna get another trash can and start on the guantlets soon whenever I get the money to buy a heat gun.
Anywho, as always, suggestions are more than welcome
