Gauntlet issues... piano hinge size

Ok, so I know that most use piano hinges, but when I went to Lowes all they have is like 36" & 12". Are these hinges something that can be disassembled and modded to be shorter? If not, besides just using other hinges, what are some solutions?

I really wanted piano hinges, since they are light and small. I got some small 2 screw hole hinges to test fit and it looks like they won't open the gaunts all the way. I guess I should note that my gaunts are scratch build sintra gaunts from WOF templates.

I had already read those. I know how to install it, but am wondering did people use the 12" ones and mod the hinges or is there another type and source out there.

There are shorter ones out there, trust me, one of my jobs is moving pianos... there are shorter ones! LOL Try a piano shop, or just a general music shop, they should have the right size. I recommend the 2"-2 1/2" ones. Hope that this helps.

If you have a dremel, they will cut right through those metal hinges. That's what I do when I make gaunts, I just measure out what I need from the 36" strip then cut it using a dremel. Takes about 5 mins to go through it with a reinforced metal cutting wheel.
