First Mando, help!
Hye I am going to start making my first mando soon and I am trying to come up with a way to make a good chest plate because I'm a girl so I cant use the conventional way but I want it smooth, what do you think of a cardboard base with clay or filler over top sanded down do you think that would work? I am making it out of card for the first time are there any hints that I could get for doing this?

Re: First Mando, help!
get a mold of your chest
And vacuum form plastic and then cut out the armor from there
best idea out there

Re: First Mando, help!
Haha zuka! Do you realize how much work that is? :lol
R u thinking of a full armor plate? Instead of three seperate pieces (traditional mando armor)

Re: First Mando, help!
Get a female mannequin body and but the chest off.... boom
-
Re: First Mando, help!
The female mannequin only really works well with certain body types.
Vevut, I don't want to steer you away from TDH but here is a great thread on the Mercs site about using paper tape and fiberglass. We had a member who's girlfriend did that method and created an AWESOME set of chest armor.
Female armor using tape and fiberglass.

Re: First Mando, help!
At the moment I dont have access to a vacum mold and plastic for it or fiber glass but I will have a look at that site thanks Noval, and I was tinking of having a three piece chest plate or a two peice like the clones with the chest sliding over the stomach.

Re: First Mando, help!
standard chest plates are 3 piece... one on each side of the chest (= 2 plates) and the diamond makes three. With the abdominal plate it's a 4 piece set. I will say that I have seen a few of the 2 piece kits that turned out well, Creon (on here) also made a 1 piece set that turned out well, but he's not female. I would suggest checkin' out mandomercs too, we have a lot of stuff over there. Also, Rotton sells some vac formed chest plates but... no one's seen or heard from him in a while so...

Re: First Mando, help!
If you plan on doing cardboard (if that is what I read from above). Then head over to my thread. http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f34/new-custom-bounty-hunter-costume-33205/ I am actually working on a set of cardboard armor and it is turning out really well. All I need to do is get a design on it and then it will be ready for painting.

Re: First Mando, help!
Those look good thanks L3G3NDQ and Commander720. But what do you guys think of using clay or filer over card?

Re: First Mando, help!
Bondo or bondo glass would be a better option.
-
Re: First Mando, help!
You could also do "Rondo", as Skip (Skupilkinson) calls it. It's a mixture of resin and bondo that makes for a pourable liquid. Easier to apply than bondo, and almost as easy to sand. You make your card forms the way you want them, and then pour this stuff over the top.

Re: First Mando, help!
I was assuming that if they don't have access to fiberglass, they don't have access to resin.
