first mando armor
hai yall
me and a couple friends are gonna make mandoarmor for Halloween this year, but none of us have any experience or knowledge working with Sintra, which we figured would be the easiest and cheapest. does any one have any tips that might help? especially about helmets, we don't want to buy helmets cause they are mostly too big and unpersonal.
thanks:)

Re: first mando armor
You can find all type of scratch build helmet tutorials by clicking here.
Sintra is fairly easy to work with. You just need a heat gun, patterns, and well ventilated area.

Re: first mando armor
judging from what i have seen on youtube and such it seems so.
what i am wondering about is how to connect to sheets of sintra to one another and how to connect them to the clothing underneath. i was thinking velcro-fastening (not sure if that is right, found it in a dictionary)

Re: first mando armor
Velcro or snaps work well. Velcro is probably the easiest to use, while snaps can be difficult for the beginner.

Re: first mando armor
I've attached my sintra armour with velcro and it works well. Just make sure you use sew on velcro to the cloth side, and stick on to the armour. I've used stick on against both sides, and ended up having to have it stitched to the cloth as well.
Using velcro gives more flexibility that using snaps (or press stud type things), so it's more forgiving if you don't line it up properly

Re: first mando armor
thanks a lot guys.
ill see if i can post some pictures of our progress, although at this stage we have just some basic shapes in cardboard

Re: first mando armor
Ya Sintra as mentioned is very easy to use, just cut out, boil and mold to the shape desired. :) As for helmets, I'd still recommend grabbing a cheaper "mystery helmet" sence you've never worked with Sintra before. It'd proboly do the job just fine. :)

Re: first mando armor
could not agree more! but accessibility and prizes in Norway differs a LOT from England and USA, the voice changer helmet costs about 108 dollars and so on.
what iv been thinking as doing something like Biohazard did here; http://mercs.firespray.net/forum/ind...?topic=1763.15
although i want to make a republic commando type of look

Re: first mando armor
just wondering what kind of paint i should use on this plastic.
i was hoping to use normal spray cans, but some say that probably wont work
-
Re: first mando armor
with sintra you can use normal spray paint but it may rub off.. krylon fusion paint would be recommended
-
Re: first mando armor
thanks:)
i got most of the plastic i need so ill try to upload some pics soon
-
Re: first mando armor
Yea, Krylon paint is absolutely amazing for close to anything on your props. I don't use anything else...
