Female set #5

NovallTalon

Well-Known Hunter
Well, since I am finishing up one set of female armor I figured that I might as well roll on into another set.

Using some new techniques on this set with some new additions such as lamellar armor pauldrons instead of my usual leather pauldrons.

Just started on the chest pieces today, so the attached picture is still extremely unfinished.

Once finished, this set will be going up for sale...so save your pennies! :D

Update time!

Ok, there three pics show where this set is currently at. Collar and ab plate are done, and I've put some fluting into the surface of the ab place (will explain below). I'm also substituting the leather pauldrons I usually make with some smaller pauldrons made from mild steel lameller plates. Lameller is the type of armor worn by the ancient Syrians, it's also the basis for lorica plumatta which to me look like the inspiration for the Kama type armor that Zam wears in Episode II.

I'll try to explain how I do the fluting for anyone who feels skippy enough to try it:

First I use my T square to find the center-line, then make a mark down the center . Next use the dead bottom of the center line to make another strait line up to the top outside corners...giving it the nice V shape. Then I put that on the anvil side of my beakhorn stake and crease it very lightly so I don't make dishing harder. Then I dish the curve into it.

The next big step is putting the flute into the metal without shrinking the size of the plate. To do this I use a cold chisel that I ground down and put a dull point (oxymoron) on for impressions only. Then I open my vice to about 1/8inch, lay a piece of cloth over it and begin chiseling down the lines I made using the stake. I make 3 passes with the chisel, then once thats done I put a flat sided stake into the vice and use a an old slagging hammer I modified to have a thin rounded polished head to give the fluting some structure and smooth out the sides.

Shoulder bells are done. Just need to anneal them for strength. I've done a concept of what the shoulder armor will look like when the lameller shroud is in place.

Cod armor done for this set. I do have to test fit it on my girlfriend just to make sure it sits right. This is a special pattern I made called the "Bikini" cod. It's much more narrow in the middle and doesn't have nearly the cupping action of a boba/jango cod.

The right shin armor done. I rolled the edges, and maintained the tapered look on the bottom edge. I also added a long T shape raise down the center.
