Dented Variant Helmet Ideas

Don't be afraid to stray from the standard Jango/Boba earcaps. If you read the Jango Fett: Open Seasons comics, you'll notice that the majority of the Mando's helmets are comletely different. I sculpted custom ears for my Jaster helmet to match those in the comic book.

Very true. Jaster Mereel is inaccurate if not with the Open Seasons ears, 'cause he doesn't appear anywhere else.

These helmets look awesome!

Its 3ds max v9. You can download a month trial on their site. This ones educational. its alot cheaper, but I just do this to not go crazy. Same program I used to make this last year for a project...

This isn't going to be very helpful, but I like both designs. I think the earlier design, with the larger tubes, while potentially heavier, still looks good. Vaguely reminiscent of tks, but not obvious or over the top, and the hoses running out the back brings the design farther away from the stormtrooper look. The newer model looks great, too, and I actually like that little bit above the rim, below where the turn signals are on the Fetts' helmets. I don't think it's pronounced enough to look silly, and the narrowness of the rim gives it a more menacing look. Can you show more of the back? I'm curious about the blue pieces in the design all the way at the top of the thread.

Thanks ioelus that actually did help.

Heres a reworked helm, with a rebreather type.
As im thinking about this, I came up with a couple of ideas.

1. Why not make helmet kits. Ones with interchangable parts. I mean, you should be able to only get the parts you need. And if there were multiple sets of ears, mandibles, ridges, etc, wouldnt that be nice:) You could pick the jaster ears. The TK keyholes. The TK eye slits. Vent holes (and place where you want them and run the tubes.

2. As Mojo said, what about hose fittings and rebreathers that are actually removable. I mean, (and i realize this isnt real. Re-breathers. Filters. Heavy weapons systems, should be able to be 'fit' to the helmet, and removed when not needed.

In this picture, you can see the tube interface. And theres some pictures with the breather on and off.

Im not crazy about the rebreather, I just added some greebles to make it interesting.

I like this helmet shape though, and I started the scratch build on it tonight. Once I get the base helmet set up, ill take some pictures and go from there.

Im going to try to get the base helmet hashed out this weekend, and some of the custom pieces added/sculpted in, and ill get a pic of something tangible up. I have to decide if I want to build up with plastic, then use a coat of filler to smooth it out, or sculpt all the add ons.

To do a project like this _right_ I think you need a very wide toolst. You need a nice sturdy resin or fiberglass helm. Resin pieces for fittings and vac formed pieces for some of the larger stuff. Like the re-breather fittings and the TK rear helmet bubbles.

Thoughts?
Again, thanks for reading.

This helmet looks really cool, and I love the idea of the rangefinder on a track on the brow.

And another slight change. My idea is also to have a track on teh eye ridge. And instead of the eye stalk lowering down, have it slide around the forhead on a track.

Ideas, Comments?

If you are asking for ideas, here's how I think you could develop it:

Firstly without rebreathers, I changed the angle slightly (apologies for the poor photoshopping, I'm in a hurry today) just to make it seem a little sleeker.

Then with your rebreather, I thought, why not make the earpiece the control box for the rebreathers? so the tubing goes through the earpiece and into the face plate?

Obviously, you could do a better job of it in 3DS, but I thought that would look pretty cool :)

Edit:

Had a third idea, as I was thinking, having an exposed pipe that could be punctured in battle is probably not the best of designs for a Mandolorian, so I've modified my idea to include encased piping. Hope it gives you good ideas ! :)
