    The Dented Noob

    hows it going everyone
i have been reading TDH forums for awhile now and i must say some of you guys are great i am beging work on my first costume soon and was hoping for a lil impute
i really love the idea of making a KOTOR style mando like in the comics and i was wondering how i could make a custom bucket should i build it myself from scratch or modify one ?
i am building my armor out of sintra and leaving gaps in it like a sleeveless shirt to show off my tats (its custom tribal like darth maul) i was never a star wars "geek" until my friend compared me to D.Maul and after that i was hooked
i will post some sketches of my armor next time and also a back story

I'm not entirely sure, but perhaps modifying a Royal Guard helmet might be the best way to achieve a KotOR Mando look.

    Re: The Dented Noob

Got a guy in Mercs who is working on making a Crusader helmet from scratch. I believe this style was fairly inspired by Canderous Ordo's helmet if I'm not mistaken.

Neo Crusader is one of those costumes that you don't see often, but you hope that at some point you do. We'll do the best we can to help you out with this project!

I think it looks pretty good, only thing you are gonna wanna watch out for is how heavy those horns are. Believe me the helmet is gonna tilt every way.

    Re: The Dented Noob

Very interesting idea. The horns are going to be problematic depending on the weight I have seen tutorial on the net using basically foam cussion material, wire, and a hardenin solution like plaster to make the horns hard. basicaly you cut the foam into the shape, then put a wire thru the middle then bend it to the curve, after that take a smaller guage wire and wrap it in a spiral then dip in the plaster, then paint. I look forward to your progress. good luck

Nice look, but I'm gonna agree that the horns may be an issue due to the weight. Unless you plan on using a chinstrap =D

well i plan on using hollow plastic horn replicas they way next to nothing and as far as keeping it in place i was also contemplating making a neck seal that really "sealed" the helmet by making a bracket that fits around my neck and connected to the helmet with magnets like in the KOTOR comics

    Re: The Dented Noob

If your going to seal the helmet, then you will have to have a way to move fresh air into and out of the helmet...otherwise you'll overheat yourself or smother to death from C02.

My advice is to work on creating that system using fans before you work on the helmet, because your going to need to know if it works or not. That would look total bad-arsed though if you can get it to work. When I get back from DragonCon I'll see what I can do to help out with that, it shouldn't be to hard to do with a small fan system and some 9 volts. We've got an electronics expert in Mercs who I may give a crack at this also.

i already have a duel fan system set up one exhaust and one intake for fresh air and to cool the helmet

    horns-

grab some styrofloam. i like the 2" pink insul foam from a hardware store. carve and sand lightly. 2 good coats in modge podge will seal em so you can paint em.
did this for some weaponthingy from kingdom hearts 2. came out great

Looks good to me. I think the colors are fine. Are you intending gray or metal on the armor parts? Either way should work well. The only thing that looks a little off to me is the stripe going down the chest. I say this because the rest of the design has such a sense of symmetry and the stripe goes against that. Nevertheless, great concept!
