Custom SWG armor (Steel)

Alright before I begin, this is my first post and kinda new at this.. I had this idea about 3 or 4 years ago so hope im the fist to post this. The armor i made is about 50% complete so far. Its quater inch thick so 16g high grade steel, very nice stuff. It was cut with a torch and grinded and shaped it and semi buffed it so i wouldnt get a ton of surface rust.. I think its comming along very well... It is all self accurate to my body, im 5'11" 192lbs, and every part of the armor is proportional. BUT!! the reason why im trying to finish it is due to Celebration IV.. Which has got me very excited to finishing it. So right now most of the peices are cut out except for a few to name; back, knee guards, under thigh guard, top of boot guards and last above foot guards. If your wondering what im talking about ill soon post them,
i just have to torch them out first. But the Silver bucket is my one ill be using with this suit, It is not steel sadly :( still working on making a steel bucket that i can bead weld together. But this one is still nice is a aluminum powder and resin cast with a about a nickle inch of fiberglass on the inside for strength but very light. On the other hand the black and OD green helmet is very heavy lol ! about 2-3 quater inches of fiberglass and weights about 4 pounds, that one took the longest to make! Let me know what you guys think of it so far, and its supposed to resemble the SWG mandalorian armor off the game. Ohh yeah btw im 19 and this is my first time working with steel if anyone is wondering.

looking pretty sweet. how did you form the steel? just bending and hammering or what?

Thanks I got about 13 hours into so far. Yes using a hammer and I have a rail road beam I use to hammer it on. I think the steel is 16g also I forgot to mention and should have put this under WIP.

Will post more pic's of complete suit by today or tomorrow with a few exception of some parts... Still throwing idea's around about a vest to attach it all to. Im using paracord and drilling small holes to fish it through to tie/strap to my body. Hope it will come out good.

Looks like you could sustain some heavy damage with that armor! Good luck!

Wow dude that is awesome. I did my helmet in 22 gauge steel and spot(bead) welded it together. I will warn you, my helmet is really heavy and the steel I used is a few millimeters thinner than the stuff you are using. I also plan on making a full suit out of the same 22 gauge steel but I just moved an the project is on hold for now. I look forward to seeing how you go about finishing your suit.

Hey thanks guys! Very jelous of your helmet Joe, but the suit is coming along pretty well so far, still working on shaping the shin guards been pretty tough beating them into shape.. I should be painting in no time and I think im going to go with the silver/aluminum for my base color keep it plain and simple for an original look..

Hey guys been working alot but I do have a little update here. I decided to keep the bright shiny steel look of the armor so in the shoulder pic, you see a before and after. Then the shins are beat to shape but still have a lot of touching up on them since you can see every hammer ding and the large vice teeth in them! But it should come out pretty decent and yes i know they arnt excatly like the ones in swg, but fairly close I think. Going to get them as close to the real deal. Then the bracer pic is how Im drilling holes in the suit to attach it all together and the holes are fairly small so that the paracord can go through it. And most pieces are already hardened if some are wondering, they have been hardened with a torch untill bright red..THEN the worst part is that what you see in the complete pic so far the whole suit right there weights 22lbs. And thats not including the back part and a few misc pieces. So it should weight close to 30lbs when done. Here they are tell me what you think so far.. :)

Here's a few pieces of advice for you.

1. Smooth/polish down the head(s) on your hammer(s). Those dings will go away if you get rid of edges and blemishes on your hammer heads.
2. Choke up your grip on the hammer. Your strikes are going all over the place from the looks of your shin armor. You need more control, and holding closer to the head will give you that control.
3. Shorten your swing distance. You shouldn't need to swing at that armor from a greater distance than 6-8(max) inches away. That means the head of your hammer shouldn't go beyond 6-8 inches from your metal at the highest point of your strike. Otherwise, you lose control and create bad dings.
4. (lastly) Find your nearest Harbor Freight store and buy the football shaped auto-body dolly. It's like $15 but will be a great starter planishing stake for you to get those dings out with.

Its awesome to see some armor from swg come to life! Hope you didn't have to grind down in dwb for that armor lulz. Looks awesome !
