    Custom Mando Woes

    Hey Gang..

Been working on an awesome custom mando, but I've hit a snag.

I cannot find a large enough silver/mirrored visor to fit my helmet.

I need a visor that is at least 11 inches in radius and 7 inches in height.

Spent the past month and a half scouring the internet and ebay,
and the closest thing I've found are motorcycle visors which are a tad too small.

I've seen VERY LARGE reflective visors before, usually worn with firemen's helmets, and so far searching firefighting supply companies has turned up zilch.

Anyone have any tips, or insight on how I might find such a critter?

By the way, before anyone suggests it, silver window tint won't work.

    Thanks in advance!

What about full face welding shields. I think I have seen some that are all one big tented visor. Guess it would be hard to see out of.

Could you get a normla face shield and use some sort of one way mirror film. I am sure you can buy one way mirror film, I just don't know where.

Can't find full face welding shields in silver reflective.

Can't do window tint since one, the adhesive is on the wrong side,
and two it won't stick to plastic right. The first time it gets warm, it will bubble like mad.

Never seen anything like that. Short of window tint, I don't know. I thought that I've heard of folks trying that in the past - are you sure it won't work?

You can can do the window tinting. I have used it for two years for my Crimson guard visors. I have never had an issue with folks complaining a bout bubbling or anything like that... unless you leave the helmet in 120 degree heat for a long pirod and with any helmet I dont think thats a good idea. You have to apply the tinting very carefully though. I will look and see if my auto place has any since I am fixing to need it for a helmet as well. If I can find it, if you send me the visor trimmed and ready to install in your helmet I will tint it for ya or I can send you the tinting.

Definitely auto tinting. Evan's offer sounds like a winner =) We have a few customs who have silver tinted visors, and one who is contemplating a gold tinted visor.

you should try a two sided mirror like the police use in interrogations.

    Hi Ray,

You might want to get a flat sheet of mirrored acrylic but you will have to heat and bend it to the shape you want. Here is a link to an online provider. I would suggest getting the 1/8" thickness to minimize distortion when bending. But for what you're doing I don't think it will affect it too much. Hope this helps!

Do not use the police window tinting. If a shadow comes across your visor at all your face willl be seen. Trust me, I interview often. If an intervierwee. Cups his hand and looks he can see the peolple viewing , but not recording him). Never admit anything.

get in contact with someone in your area who sells PVC/polycarb/acrylic/ABS etc... they will have what you want and should be able to cut to size

i just scored a 6mm thick slab of PVC from my local guy for $5 AUD about 90cm by 60cm perfect for blaster stuff gotta love offcuts
