Custom mando for my wife

Custom mando for my wife - FINAL PICS!!!

What can I say...I'm easily distracted. I should be working on my own armor, but I like multi-tasking. :D

I'll post some progress photos tomorrow, as I actually finished building all the pieces and got a good bit of painting done already.

Because I had already bought a green flightsuit for my wife (which I'm going to try to alter into a two piece), I knew that I needed to work around the green in the suit, and I wanted her favorite color blue to be in the color palatte, too. I also managed to pick up a pair of finished Ruffkin gauntlets on TDH in orange that just need to be trimmed a bit to fit her -- so I threw those against the design, as well. Here's what I came up with (with a little help from the Mandomaker and Photoshop -- and inspiration from drooling over Hydra's designs!):

I still have to decide what those symbols will ultimately be, so I just sketched something rough in for now. I've got Rotton's excellent chest armor already halfway painted. All the other leg pieces in Sintra are cut (from WoF's excellent Jango templates and Boba knees), trimmed, primed, silvered, and have one or two primary colors as of today (it was a busy weekend with her out of town!). And the knees and boot tops are totally done.

Progress pictures forthcoming, but let me know what you think of the design.

Wackovia.....funny.

Enough talk....here it is!

Original design:

Realized in plastic and paint:

I had actually taken a load of photos of just the armor before I realized I had her flightsuit inside, along with my vest and neckseal -- the same LadySewforus vest and seal that I am also getting for Staci. Put it all together and I'm only missing her girth belt (which needs to be dyed) and ammo belt (which I left out of the pic).

Here are a few more closeups. The chest, diamond, and ab armor are Rotton. Collar and everything else are Sintra cut from Wizard of Fett templates and modified a little to suit a woman's size. All edges are beveled to get rid of what I liike to think of as that dreaded Sintra edge.

The guantlets are Ruffkintoys that I picked up used. I'm going to be modifying them heavily to make them smaller, but the color will be perfect once I hit the armor and the orange of the knees and boot armor with a few acrylic washes and more weathering.

I'm really pleased with the shins, too. The original template calls for separate plates to go on the front of the shin and make it look square. I tried an experiment on my first shin. Before heating and bending it, I lightly scored the lines where I wanted the bend with a box cutter. When I heated it and started to bend it, instead of the gradual curve bend I got in the shoulders or thighs, I got a perfectly sharp bend! So I didn't even want to attach the plates on the front!

I'm still not totally sold on the cod and the colors there. I may go for a solid blue in the end. Next up is getting her vest and neckseal ordered, finishing my mods on the gauntlets, and ordering a Bradleyfett bucket.

Might be a while before another update. Let me know what you think!

I'm thinking I should change the cod back to my original design. Here's a Photoshop mockup:

I like how it is now. I don't think you need to change the cod piece colors, but it is yours and your wifes. Stupid question, but did you ask her?

She wanted a single color cod originally. I already blasted it with white and will probably make the outside blue like the photo. I think it's a better transition to the legs that way.

No idea on fit yet. Gotta get her into the suit and the vest is still not made yet. I may have some trimming to do before all is said and done, but we'll see.

Helmet is done -- once I get the rangefinder and stalk from Daz and paint it up! It's a Bradleyfett that I reinforced with fiberglass and then sprayed with Plasticote inside to cover any barbs.

My wife is actually an artist, so she'll be painting her own symbol on the front in white -- whether just a mythosaur or some other icon.

Once I get the vest and neckseal from Debbi, I just need to add her cape and put it all together. Still well on schedule. :)

Quick update as we creep toward Halloween!

I broke the collar armor putting it away -- which is okay because it was too wide anyway. Took me about an hour or two to cut out a new correctly sized one, paint it up, and weather it to match the rest of the armor. And I got the symbols painted on the shoulders. They look pretty cool now:

Today I also got her pistola together:

A Nerf N-Strike Nite Finder, piece of copper tubing from a sprinker for the barrel, and a compressor fitting and greeblie off the same sprinkler attachment for a flash suppressor. I think it's lookin Star Wars-y enough. :)

AND...Debbi's revised vest and neckseal came and they fit great on her!! Plenty of room for all the armor. Next step is to actually fit it on the vest with the velcro and then I'll see about getting more finished pictures together.

Her costume is down to attaching armor, fitting elastic, popping a RF and stalk on her helmet and getting a cape. She's actually generated quite a bit of buzz for her costume among friends and at work. Ought to be quite the unveiling. lol

More to come. Helmet (with her new emblem) is next!!

That is awesome.(y) I wish my old lady would wear something like that. She has a Padme white battle costume which looks great on her, yet she has only wore it once three years ago.

Make sure you post some pics of her wearing it! :cheers

All done now, except to get a slightly bigger web belt (so I can take my ammo belt back!!) and maybe trim a gauntlet a little. Let's review....concept:

And here it is in all it's glory:

And my favorite, from the side....

Actually, she's all excited now and wants me to put them on her Facebook page. Halloween should be pretty fun.... (y)

Cheers!

Well done ner vod!

Though she needs to get that hair braided, the buy'ce sits better on them apparently. :) You dog does indeed look a little perplexed. My kids get the same expression when I try my gear on for fit tests too. LOL!
