I hope not...:lol great stuff that glue!
And as for the visor Ord'ika, I usually cut it out at the very end. Then there is no chance of warpong or distortion. :)

A'd'ika u're just so helpful ner vod... lmao I'll be gettin' ahold of ya when it's time to visor up my buy'ce
Sweet! I'm excited to go buy gorilla glue now, LoL. But Finals are coming up and my family and I are going to go see Star Wars in Concert this Saturday so I don't know how soon going out and buying it will be.
Guess what my Spanish class decided to do? Make pinatas! Here's my groups:
Ori'kandosii Ord'ika! That's super awesome!
your not gonna hit it are ya?
NEVER! Everyone in my class loved it so much that they volunteered to sacrifice their own pinatas for ours. :D
That is awesome ord'ika!!! :cheering
sick! If you hit that.... :lol
Oh heck yes! Way to go Ordeyn!
OKAY!!!! I"m back from Christmas break and now its time to work me shebs off to get this set done before next week. The reason why is that next week is spirit week at my school and there's a character day, which I'll be dressed up as myself but in my mando armor. :D So, helmet it getting smoother--at least the dome is, hehehe-- and I came up with an ingenious way to attach elastic bands to leg armor:
STAPLES!!!!! I reinforced the back of the staple with the gorilla glue that didn't work attaching the elastic to the plastic. (ignore the rhyme.)
More pics later when I get more work done...
Brilliant!!! That's awesome Ord'ika!!! :cheers
Ord'ika that's ingenious... I may have to steal that technique
Next week?!?! Hope you can get it all finished in that time! But then again you're not as slow as me :D haha
well she already has like 90% of it finished lev'ika... really all she's lacking is the buy'ce and getting it all together
Hmm true, but even that would a while for me haha
hey Ord'ika, just wanted to give u a quick thread bump whilst I'm online...lol any progress?
Can I cut out the visor yet? I've only got till Wednesday night to finish this and I need to know if I have to get stuff to attach the visor. :D
Sorry it's not detailed, I'm short on time today...
Ord'ika I'm no helmet expert... but it looks like u've got enough layers now to cut it out... I'm impressed with your progress tho. I still don't have a cod piece... I need to get that part made already! lol Is it your birthday? didn't know that happy birthday Ord'ika!
Quick tip with those ear greeblies hun, put some sandpaper on a flat surface and move the greeblies up and down on it where you need it to be straight.
Yeah, paint your helmet, cut the bad boy out and size your template up quickly, I'm guessing your helmet won't have the keyslots.
No, it's not my birdthay, sorry. I just said it to make the post more exciting.
Yeah, my ears are really pathetic. I was really experimenting, but I'll sand em and slap em on there. I cover em with bondo, right?
lmao I get it... at least u have ears for your buy'ce! I have none.
i have to thank Jayson for the ones he gave me!! theyre amazing!
And btw Ord'ika.. youre bucket looks WAY better than mine!!! :thumbsup
hmmm... true this is... Ord'ika's does look better
Well, I'm rushing now. Tomorrow is my last day to get it done. I finished up what sanding I care to do on the helmet, putty and all. http://i564.photobucket.com/albums/s...N/DSCN8804.jpg
And cut out the visor because I needed to bondo some of the areas where the cardboard was, if that makes any sense.
So, ears? How do I do em? Bondo them up and screw them in? And the visor? How do I get that puppy on? Does it matter what color I paint the inside of the buy'ce? Please help me Obi-all of you people who know how to do these things Kenobi. You're all my only hope!
JB Weld, screw em in, magnets, even hot glue can work for the ears. Same goes for the visor. However, I just simply duct taped mine in there. After trooping in 4 events, one being a 5k run, I think I can attest to how well tape works.
Painting inside...just be careful. Remember that you will sweat in there, so be prepared for some of it to come off on you. I have not painted inside any of my buckets, but have thought about it.
For visior, take a piece of paper and trace the visor from the outside with a pencil, add about 1/2 an inch then cut it out, test it on the back to see if it fits, cut it back until is does, once you have a nice fit you have a template to cut out of your welder's mask.
Use hot glue to hold the visor in.
You may need a bit of foam to stop helmet wobble.
As for the ears, I personally would screw them in, but it depends on the deepness of your earpiece.
Without ado'ika around, I'm afraid I'm the one who'll have to dispense with the laser whip.
Get moving girl!
Progress, and I'm almost done! Just got to attach those ears and paint everything. :D I'm going to be to tired to be Mando-like tomorrow... And the visor is not actually installed but I set it in there for pictures:
And yes, I'm cheating and just doing a ton of putty on the ears.:rolleyes
So I wore my armor to school. I stayed up til 5:30 in the morning trying to finish it--something Im never doing AGAIN--and got and hour of sleep. But I pretty much finished! All the little kids at school thought I was the coolest person ever cos I looked like Boba Fett or Jango Fett, even though I was purple...Anyways, that was two weeks ago and I'm finally posting about it.
The whole school dressed up cos it was Character Day. These are my sci-fi buddies. Left to right: Donna Noble, The Doctor, Han Solo, and Me. :D
There ya go! I'm going to do like a photo shoot with all my kit on eventually when it's not snowing, so there's something to look forward to.
Ori'kandosii Ord'ika!!! Only thing is I Didn't get the colors right on ur buy'ce in my sketch... guess I'm gonna have to change that! lol It looks great tho! Are you goin to start on your guns now?
BTW... ur buy'ce looks amazing!
It'll look even more amazing once I'm done with her :)
Kandosii Ord'ika!!! Looks awesome vod!!! :cheering
Looking nice for a purple mando. I was thinking of mixing in purple with my armor seeing as purple is my favorite color but I thought red and black where unique because of using it for my roleplay character on myspace.
lmao I wasn't gonna say anything Ord'ika
LOL!!! :b It looks GREAT ord'ika! Now take some more time and clean it up a bit! :thumbsup
I will I promise. I just had to have something that looked like a helmet. ;)
It looks great Ord'ika. Way to go.
Any idea what you're going to do for guns?
Yeah...let's see some weapons progress!!! :D
Been away from the board for far too long. Looks really nice. Keep up the good work. My 1st attempt was a trash can build as well. It didn't turn out so well, so I'm looking into metal.
Metal is the way to go ner vod! :)
Yeah, once I finish this that's what I want to try: metal. :D
hmm... sounds like a good idea to me... not with my kit because mine would be REALLY heavy if it were metal, but a kit like yours would be fine.
When you're ready for metal Ordeyn..Drop me a line. I know a few people who work it.
Awesome seeing you in your kit finally. Your thread is the one that inspired me into knowing I could make my custom Mando.
hey Ord'ika how's the blasters and such things coming along?
I like the look, it is coming along nicely
BUMPED, Nice work on it Ordeyn, Oh and here's a shocker, I'm actually working :D, Well not anymore, on a lack of supplies
Okay, I'm not dead! I've just been ridiculously busy. Soccer season is starting soon and I'm trying to home school Algebra 2 over this summer...which is barely happening. But a itty bitty bit of progress is that I removed the masking from my shin plates! Yay!
Weapons. Right. I'll just have to use the power of my mind for now.
I'm trying to get back to working on this. Hopefully I'll have something to show you all soonish...
hey she lives! Ord'ika if u need any help with hardware (weapons) I'd be happy to help out if I can.
Thanks, kal. you'll be the first one I go to if I crash and fail. :)
Pics of the shins:
With the boots I'm wearing, which aren't my actual boots, I made the shin to fit over the ankle of the boot and sort of move with it the way I walk (hence all the action shots). I used a buckle on the lower part so I could adjust it to the whatever boots i'm wearing. I did buy some black boots, I should show them to you guys.
Until next time...
I LIEK THIS ALOT...... Liek isn't good enough I LURV IT
gettin' there Ord'ika... it looks like those shin plates will work quite nicely
They also look like they could take a beating
Doing great! Still watching this one with a lot of interest. Can't wait to see more
hey guys! I AM alive. :P your kit looks AMAZING ord'ika!
OYA!!! A'den K. reporting in!!! Everything is looking good Ord'ika!!! :)
I know how much you all love pictures so I've prepared a little feast:
This is the new hardware I installed to keep my thigh plates from falling down my legs...
...I took some old straps that used to be on a old pair of my brothers shorts--and were green so I spray painted them--and sewed them to the clips.
Lower half of my armor all together. (Boots are under the jumpsuit legs)
Lower half again. (Jumpsuit legs tucked into boots this time, which I think looks better)
These are my lovely boots that I absolutely fell in love with when I saw them. They were the perfect pair for me cause I can wear them with my armor and with regular clothes too. :D
Better shot of the pant leg on the outside of the boot.
Okay, so, questions: does the lower half look funny without knees/do you think I need them?
And do you think having the pant legs tucked into the boot is better than having the pant leg on the outside?
looks good, but yeah I'd def add some knees, it just looks a lil odd without 'em
Yar, knees will help. Just make sure you make em outta something good and strong, they take a serious beating on troops. But other than that, it looks amazing!!! :D
Awesome first outfit.Keep those pics coming!I like the color pattern of the armor, and the weathering is good too!
Knees and some spats to cover that zip on the side of your booties!
^Explain spats to me.
How does one go about constructing knee plates?
And I'm letting you all know that my first semester of school is going to be pretty crazy with soccer and college classes so my visits to TDH will be...infrequent to say the least.
Spats, they are a bit like a cloth version of an ankle brace, but looser, if you check Boba Fett's feet out, he has them.
Cut out the general shape but ensure that there is one side that is still flat, then you place a box like structure onto it, however, as you are constructing your own then you can either use some pre shaped plastic or your own design.
understandable, Ord'ika, do what u gotta do, real life has to take precedence sometimes
Wow Ordeyn i just now started following your Wip and you have given me ideas for my custom mando that i just started working on. All i know is that bondoing a helmet is a pain in the butt
"Cut out the general shape but ensure that there is one side that is still flat, then you place a box like structure onto it, however, as you are constructing your own then you can either use some pre shaped plastic or your own design."
I assume you're referring to the knee plates, right Saz?
Yup yup :)
Guess what? One of my two soccer seasons just finished today! I'm that much closer to getting back to working on finishing this set of armor. No real updates besides that. But I have been wanting to do some full armor pics, so that may happen eventually...
*chants* do it do it!!! ;D
nothing like peer preasure...lol armor pics!!!
I've been a bit of a disappointment in the photo department. I just haven't gotten around to it... and we lost the camera. So, I have a question instead: how does one keep light from coming up into the helmet and revealing one's face inside? Is there a good way to block light from getting inside the while wearing it?
bucket skirt... it's a piece of material (fitted to the bucket) that fits under the chin and blocks out the light.
It's like a seal on the inside of the bucket. Usually you can make it with fabric and an elastic ring in the centre. :)
yeah... what A'den said...lol
Awesome, thank you! I'll get to work on that, some weapons, and some pictures....eventually.
I make weapons if you need 'em Ord'ika... may have to wait a few months for me to get back stateside tho.
Kal what type of weapons?
well... I do a wide variety of knives, I have a Power-5 Design that turned out pretty good and could easily be modded to a DL-44, I am working on a Power-5 Carbine, a Verpine Sniper Rifle and a Verpine Assault Rifle, I'm also building a CQBR version of the Blastech A280. Basically... if you have a good image and it's not too complicated, I can probably pull it off.
Well, kal, when I try to make my own weapons and if I really suck at it I will let you know. I'd really like to give making my own custom weapons a go. :)
of course, but hey I'm here to help so if you get stuck anywhere or you need any tips/tricks let me know.
Awesome, I will.
I decided I ought to try to do something so I was doodling last night (at like midnight when I should've been asleep) and came up with this:
It would be an awesome build for the Krayt bucket I got from Saz (that I still haven't done anything with). I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but it would be cool nonetheless, no?
I really like that! Quite ancient looking.
yeah I like it, I think it'd be an interesting build, besides you show the raw talent to be able to pull it off.
Thanks. :) I was looking at it earlier and it reminded me of the way Kaleesh (Grievous's species) look.
The snow rolled in this morning and cancelled school! I decided to use the day to do some work.
I began work on that helmet light-blocker:
I also got started on touching up my bucket, like covering up the ugly sides of the ears. I taped around the ears and put putty filler on 'em cause I don't want to deal with bondo and hardener. And started working on repainting areas that need it by spraying the spray paint into a container and using a detail brush I'm not terribly attached to to accomplish that.
And I thought about hiding the zippers on my boots. I figured out a way to do it on the bottom, but now I have to figure out something on the top. Any ideas?
this is looking really good kandosi'
I can't really see the top zipper... Maybe I'm just missing something. If I could see it I may have a few ideas :P lol
LoL, I didn't even think about it, Lev'ika. But I think I may have solved my own problem. I give you the Mandalorian leg warmer:
And I finished the spat-like mod for the boots. I pinned it together on the boot and went from there. Btw, both of them are made from scraps from my vest. Also, the "leg warmers" are made from leftover material from my kama.
I'm also thinking about throwing on some armor onto those spats:
I think it all adds detail and complexity to the kit, making it better overall. And it also keeps my pretty boots from gettin' all scratched up!
So, what do you all think? Yay or nay?
armor those spats up! It'd look good, and yes I think the spats are good, they definately help protect the boot and they look like they'd support some small foot plates quite nicely.
:D looks epic, are u gonna do a viewfinder? Also the drawings you did on this page look great, i like the cloth around the neck idea. Kind of adds a rugged snow type look to it.
Those boots are looking fairly awesome Can!
If you want to armour those spats, keep the "Metal" material thin and use velcro :)
That's the plan, Saz. :) I'm going to use scrap plastic for the armor. Just have to shape it a bit and stick it on.
I have pics of the finished ears -- golly they look so much better -- but I don't have time right now to put them up. Soon!
I've been done for a long a time, but haven't had time to put them up. At last:
Not too exciting, but that's all I have right now.
Looks good Ord'ika!!! :thumbsup
Nice work ord'ika... SamMooseSimon that's inapropriate and won't be tolerated.
Great job! I love your color scheme and enthusiasm. Are you gonna wear the big gun you were showing off or decided for some small arms?
Thank you all! I'm hoping to design and build some custom rather large pistols ( I am slowly working on that). It is also warm outside so I think some time soon when I have a chunk of time where I don't need to do anything important I will go out and have a little photo shoot you all can see everything together finally.
Got that helmet skirt finished:
(yes that's a lamp...)
Can't see my face! Muwahahahahahahahaha!
Everything is velcro-ed inside. It isn't pretty, but it gets the job done.
Next up some time in the future:
-hopefully a photo shoot of the full kit
-completed knee armor
-maybe some weapons...
