Charlie's Custom Mando *PICS*

Well, now that the last of the parts for my Boba on are on the way...I just had to start another project! I've begun work on my custom. I've got my ideas laid out for how i want to do the costume; so far I have finished the helmet (yay for my lens arriving today). Here is the 99% complete helmet.

I still need to properly install the lens, and I've got red EL wire to outline the lens with (a la Republic Commando buckets). I also think I need to do a bit more work with the RF assembly. As a note, the lights on the "comm box" on the left side of the helmet DO work. The GYR on the outside are constantly lit, while the BRG on the front side flash in a semi-random sequence. Thoughts/comments?

Charlie, thats looking pretty cool man!

Talon Clan is having an armor party on the 24th of Feb. Let me know if your interested and I'll send you a PM with directions to my place.

Wow! I can't believe I forgot pictures of the back! Ok, here they are.

The keyslot were removed, cause I just don't like em. *grin* They've been replaced with "sensor nodes" (I still have decals to add to them, funky writing and whatnot) and the little object to right is an actual camera from a cellphone (now, sadly nonfunctional). I need to add the detail painting to that. Oh, and the the button looking thing...it's an actual flashlight button. I'm trying to decide if I want to wire it into the lights so that if you push, the helmet "lights" up.

And Novall, thanks for the invite! I'll check my work schedule and see if we're off that weekend. I'll shoot you a PM.

Totally rad and creative!

Is that a baby monitor on the left ear??

LOL, no. It's a 4"x2"x1" "project box" (that's what they call em) from Radio Shack with a metal rod (unpainted), a walkie-talkie antenna, and the antenna from a base station of an old cordless phone. I put LEDs and LED covers on for the lights.

Ok, the EL wire has been installed. here are some stills:

I love it completely, but I feel that I need to tell you you've got some nasty splaying going on with the bottom of the visor. Perhaps some reinforcement is in order?

The daylight pics above were without the visor properly secured in. That has since been corrected :). One other thing, the way I've kinda "rebuilt" the orginial Boba casting I got, the visor IS wider at the bottom than at the top. That is, it expands as it goes down the front of the helmet (I wanted to do something just a little bit different than the straight T we know and love).

Oh and one more thing I could definitly use some advice with: the lens (although I love it) is a bit too clear. It's easy to see me through the helmet. Thoughts on making it darker? My initial thought is to take some of the slide on window tinting to the inside.

you could also just stick a standard dark visor behind your current one. I think adding window tint would probably be easier, but just giving you another option.

Reflective red is also a possibility, it might make that visor light even cooler

Charlie, you can use window tinting on it and that should work. Just make sure you get those bubbles out. Also, you can put silver tinting on the outside of it and really up the badass factor!

he's a Tau crossed with a Necron....nice use of the Tau stuff on ur lid man...i have an iron hands space marine symbol on my chest plate!

good job! looks sweet!

Kandosii! The red hud light remind me of the hud light on a Republic commando buy'ce, minus the color of course. The glyphs and symbols are what I like the best though. They give it real character and a sense of history behind your mando'ade. Keep upthe good work.
