Another last minute costume.

loveless

Jr Hunter
My Niece doesnt have a Halloween costume. She was buggin me about one.

So I decided to make her one.

I was gonna use this helmet as a cast for junior size Fett helmets, but instead will scale down my replica fett helmet for lil kids and teens.

Sooooo, I am gonna post pics and progress reports for her costume.
Basically, the vacuform master piece is what I am gonna use for this. As I will completely redo the vacuform master piece for accuracy purposes.

My money is VERY low, and my main tool is broke down.
So this will be the best I can do by Halloween for her.

Using cardboard, bondo and water based paint.

Thats the start.... Already around but will be modified greatly.

SO.... here goes nothin...

UPDATE:

Well, here's where I am at:

1-3.jpg

I am using cardboard for the armor, then will cover it with cerial box cardboard to smooth it out. I have the night off and all day tomorrow to work on it. So here goes!!!

Please god, I will have pics of this completed and not looking like it was slapped together in about 20 hours, lol

NOT TO BUMP: 3 HOURS LATER:

Here's where I am at now...

I decided to cut some foam I had for her pouches.
1-4.jpg

^^^Oh, I also painted the green water gun silver and distressed it.

1-4.jpg

Then covered them in black fabric I had lying around. I then painted them with alot of white. Hey, it actually kinda worked.
2-3.jpg

Next step I will paint them brown and then distress them and do a lil kit bashing to add buttons on them....

5-2.jpg

I covered the chest armor with cerial box's, to smooth it out, then I damaged it with a knife.

3-4.jpg

I added cerial box like pizza cardboard to the brow and then filled it in with bondo, that way I can just use the half sheet of rough sand paper as I dont have my drumel.

Then I added damage it.
4-1.jpg

I cut up an empty 2 liter bottle of soda and used that as her visor.
6.jpg

I will post more picks later today when I am finished her back plat and gauntlets. Then the final costume. I think I will make it white, purple and lavander. I gotta hurry though.

Please dont move this thread, this is the only website it is on. It will be finished later today.

EDIT:

The pouches came out ok. I used umm.. tire thingys from a model kit for button snaps, they dont really open. and distressed them.
2-4.jpg

Here's her backplate and two gauntlets. The one gauntlet is covered with Cereal cardboard, gotta do it to the backplate and second gauntlet, then kit bash em.
1-5.jpg

I'm tired. And getting cranky : ( I'm almost there, sorta.

The dome of the helmet was um...a plastic helmet, so I put the heat gun up to certain parts on high, then took a knife to it underneath and jab and twisted through. the sides I used a grinder and knife. The chest plates was just a knife.
I have a grinder and heat gun. and hot glue gun, thats it.

Stormrider, LOL, it's for alil movie called luna. It's a 50 k thermal nuclear warhead, ah, long story.

I am still workin on the costume.

wow that is very cool. I will have to get to work on my own lil guy
s costume aftetr haloween sometime. He troops with me most of the time. Soda bottle for avisor THAT is inventive. love the helmet

Thatnks for the complements : )

This is way off topic, but I had to post. My nephew didnt have a costume to take to school, I wouldnt let him wear my avatar unsupervised, so I Got an old shirt and pair of pants belongin to him, made it look dirty, did some fast fx make up, and sent him to school like this. He wasnt too happy, but looked cool.

1-6.jpg

He was also still waking up, lol.

^^^ Had to post that. Back on topic,

I covered the gauntlets in cereal box cardboard, I also put lil toy missles on there just to add somthin.

2-5.jpg

Then primed them: As you can tell, they were made as quickly as possible. lol
5-3.jpg

Then I did the same to the backplate with the cereal box cardboard.
3-5.jpg

I heated up some plastic coat hangers and bent them, then glued them inside the backplate so it keeps it's shape.
4-2.jpg

Then primed it and of course added distressing to try and hide the rush job:
6-1.jpg

Then painted the armor, I knoe, purple, but she's a ten year old girl. She wanted me to make it sparkly too, lol, um...NO!!! lol:
7-1.jpg

Bad pick.

I have to distress this stuff now. But it sucks cause now she might not even be here to go trick or treating. 24 hours straight, been up for over 35, and now it might all be in vain. oh well.

I will post the shine pads and knee pads if I add them as she will be wearing a kinda skirt so no code piece, that is if she will even be here now...:cry

The heck with it, I'm gonna take a break for an hour and get an ice cold beer!!!!

Hey if nothing else you can taker her to a con with you so it will not be in vain. ;)

Thats one impressive job there. I am curious as to how well the face can be seen through the improvised visor. Is there a way we can have a picture showing how transperent.

Give your self a pat on the back you need it.

Looks great! WAY TO GO!

I saw your nephew on a news article somewhere (in his mando)...I will have to post it when I find it again!

Thanks for the reply, Loveless. I'm really diggin' the helmet damage. When there's time, I'd love to see a closer pic of how it looks after painting.

I hope your hard work was put to use tonight. You should be very proud of this, on top of being able to pull it together so quickly.

Well, she was able to make it through after all. I finished at the last second.
I just got back from taking her trick or treating. It was a blast to do this project and succeed. Also, I have a VERY happy niece.

I am a bit dissapointed with how the final came out, but for less then 2 days, excluding the helmet on green screen, and $0, I cant complain.
Funny, I was actually distressing the final pieces and adding paint chips while she was wearing the costume just before we left the house. If I had her for the whole two days, I coulda fit it on her perfectly, but only was able to do quick reference measurements 5% of the time I worked on this.

I am tired, 40+ hours, and I am finally done.
Here are some picks.

2-6.jpg

I added those lil gladiator style thingys to her skirt in the last hour of the project. I wish I thought to add them sooner, As I coulda designed them better.

3-6.jpg

I am dissapointed because the most important part imho, the distressing, got rushed within about 30 minutes.

4-3.jpg

5-4.jpg

Here is one of the quicky varient gauntlets.

1-7.jpg

If you look closely, you can see her eyes through the visor. I painted the inside of the visor with black water based paint as it was clear from a 2 liter bottle of soda, I was then able to wipe away some where her eyeline is so she can see out of it. At night, you couldnt see her eyes at all, but she was able to see through it just fine, so it worked out ok.

6-2.jpg

The damage again, was super rushed, and kinda breaks my heart a lil. It should have more silver and all that stuff. But I will fix that once I get back on my feet and have financial flow coming in.

Right now, I am gonna sit back, smoke a cigar, drink a beer, and relax, while eating some candy maybe : )

But I did what I started out to do with really nothing for the cost of nothing, so I cant complain. I am satisfied. :) Thanks for all your support through this lil journey.

Have a Happy Halloween everybody.

EDIT: Oh sorry, I am glade you like the backplate. It is Jango Fett inspried : )

Gosh these picks are really bad, I need to sleep. I will post better ones tomorrow when she gets outta school so there not all dark and stuff : )

Again, sorry for the bump, just REALLY late in posting CU of the damage. Just heated it with a heat gun and stabbed it with a pocket knife. The chest armor and sides of the helmet are cardboard just kinda cut up with a knife and painted. I will repost better picks when it is ready for a con in 2008.

The bump is well warrented. That scarring is insane, even if you don't like it that much its still extreamly well done.
