My dad gave me one of his extra Air Force battle dress uniform and it fits me quite nice, I was planing on making a Boba Fett outfit, but I was wondering if it would be better to make my own unique camo one... any suggestions with the color for the armor?

The idea is really going to be if you are happy with it. If done tastefully could be a really cool looking costume. You'd need the armor to "fit in" with the camo theme but be noticeable as well. Maybe a lot of black, grey, and green used on the helm/armor?

    Victor,
I would strongly recommend doing anything to alter your father's uniform. Instead, I would recommend that you gather as many facts as you can about where he served in that uniform and write them on a note card. Slip that notecard into the uniform breast pocket and then carefully hang or neatly fold the uniform and place it into storage. It will mean far more to you and your children someday than if you altered it for a costume. Just my thoughts on the matter from someone who has served for over 19 years. Preserving it best honors your Dad's service.

I agree with Bothan on that. However a camo Mando could be cool, if done correctly as Syllander has said. I would however just purchase a modern similar camo uniform to use in your dads honor though rather than use your fathers actual uniform. Just my opinion, and something to think about.

Agree with both of the above posts. Surely could imagine a camo mercenary costume though, for some far out jungle type terrain.

Then get busy brother.....and take plenty of pics along the way. Check out the bounty hunters guild. I'd imagine someone has done some version of a camouflage mercenary. Any questions or ideas someone here might be able to help.

If my monitor display is anything to go by, the the ABU pattern is a modern take of the tigerstripe family of camouflage patterns? This reminds me of my mando-merc concept based on desert-tigerstripe (which I picked as it wasn't a recognised uniform of any armed/defence force - to the best of my knowledge)

In any case, have a look at the pattern (whichever one you decide upon) and you'll notice that:

    a. there is usually a dominant colour throughout the scheme
    b. the pattern repeats itself - look out for distinctive shapes and how many times they appear within a yard
    c. once assembled, uniform pieces rarely look "uniform"

Using the colours that appear in the camouflage will help to tie the armour, vest, and accessories together.

i know this is not the exact camo . but it might give you some ideas. You might be able to find a nice main color ( a nice red or yellow or something).. and bring in some other colors by weathering( have some of the camo colors as base layers shown through with the battle damage) .. that might really tie it all together ..

just something i've run across as an example:

I am also toying with the idea of an ABU Mando kit. Once I get a rough design going I will go ahead and post it and request input.

BTW, the ABUs are my own. I am soon to be retired from the USAF. So I will be keeping a pair of the ABUs for prosperity, as suggested by Bothan, and the rest? We shall see.
