What is a Warning?

honestly, every message board needs a thread about spankings. every board i've ever registered to has one.

My bother and dear friend. The Sniffer himself admires your name. Perhaps one day we shall join forces and rule the galaxy together.

Sniff on my dear brother! Sniff on!;)

Ok, gang. Goldenrod informed me that this is from an episode of Spongebob which I do not watch and would not recognize. When we see posts with $%@# we are going to assume that they are curse words, esp when you have the letter "f" in front of it and enough symbols to spell a certain word. Technically the only reason for using @#$#% is because you are wanting to say something that can't be said, whether it be in a cartoon or whatever. You will receive a warning if you do this so I would advise you not to. This is a thread about why people receive warnings, not to push the rules because everyone is joking around.

I think this whole censorship thing is going a little too far. I can understand going Al Pacino Scarface is a little over the top, but when you can't say the "D" word or even the "H" word, thats overdoing it. This isn't PeeWee's playhouse.

Terms of Use #17 states you are over 18 or have legal consent from a parent to be on here. I think you mods need to go have a beer and relax.

The mods seem pretty relaxed to me if you look at the joking around in this thread alone. (y)

The language guidelines are actually at the request of a lot of the members at TDH. You can read about that in the other language guideline posts.

Seriously, if you think about it, actually typing out curse words is pretty goofy.

Wes,

While I understand where you are coming from, the only reason it appears that things are being carried too far is that our members are 1) not reading the rules, 2) not abiding by them if they have read them, 3) testing the boundaries, 4) attempting to be humorous by skirting dangerously close to the line at which they are breaking the rules. So far we have grinned and bore it as this is to initially be expected. However, that time and our patience is drawing to a close.

The rule has been set in place and clearly defined to the membership. We have been open to suggestions, like enabling the censor filter, but we are standing by the rule. Inappropriate language is not needed or wanted here. The rule will be enforced and if members repeatedly break the rule, especially on purpose, such as using asterisks and other symbols in place of inappropriate words, there will be consequences. We are not trying to be harsh or oppressive. These are simply the rules of this board.

The terms of use do not prohibit individuals under the age of 18 and while many parents have no problem with their children being a part of this board, they do not want them to be subjected to such language.

We have no desire to drive members away from TDH, and if enabling this rule does so, then I am at a loss, as there is not a single reason why someone NEEDS to use such language to express him/herself. Unfortunately, the terms "mature" and "adult" often seem to equate to the ability to do and say inappropriate things. However, the fact is, maturity and acting like an adult is taking responsibility for one's actions. We are asking that our members to keep their language on a truly mature and adult level.

Hey Dent,

You seen that movie with Johnny Depp, From **** ?
Or what about that new Vampire movie coming out next year **** Nation?

This is what I'm talking about, you gotta draw a line somewhere....

Wes,

There is no arguing that these words have been used in society to the point that they have become banal and are now more or less considered mainstream and common. However, because they are used so flippantly in virtually every aspect of society does not make them acceptable here. Likewise, because a Rubies helmet is acceptable as an accurate representation of what is seen on screen by most of society, does not make it acceptable as screen accurate here.

With that in mind, we will look at this yet again, and if you have specific terms you feel should be accepted, please email them to me at thedent@thedentedhelmet.com. Thanks.

Oh and just for the record, I own a copy of that particular Johnny Depp movie. ;)

I see your point D, and don't totally disagree with you.
I think the filter needs to go or at least the less harsh of the few and those people caught abusing their right to free speech should be dealt with. I just think totally wiping out words, which in my example blew two movie titles, is a bit much. This board is full of adults and they should behave like it.

Thanks for your reply D,

Wes

The words "damn" and "hell" have been removed from the censor filter and their usage will be judged by the administration on a case by case basis. Do NOT misinterpret this as a license to use these terms as expletives.

As has been stated before, the updating of the inappropriate language section in the Code of Conduct is process that will take some trial and error to perfect. We will never please everyone but we want to be reasonable while maintaining the high level of quality our members have come to expect.

It will depend on the usage. I will reiterate and want to make it perfectly clear that we will not tolerate members testing the limits of this issue. In regard to Delta 75's examples above, there are some uses for these words that will not result in a negative reaction from the asministration.

I never really got where people came to the underdtanding that the first amendment says you can walk around and spew whatever they want out of thier mouths, used to have great debates about this in college.

how about just saying that inhales vigoroulsly........ or that exhales vigorously. See ya can use intellegence to explete and/or speak what is on your mind without being vulgur there are others too where your not swearing but they are rather descriptive and might actually be more....explicit.:)
