stolen property.

Hey all. I know I don't come around like I used to, and I haven't forgotten about this place. I still have hopes of one day making a Fett suit. I hope you've all been doing well.

It has slowly become apparent that I have been robbed. I used to live in Tennessee and had my Rubies Fett helmet and gauntlets at the time. A friend... or should I say ex-friend, said he'd fix them up for me. He's kept them at his house over time. We used to work together, so I had no reason to even think he'd steal from me. Then finally, the time came and I was moving to Georgia in early 07. He said he would fix my stuff up for me then send them to me. Casually over the years, I've asked how my stuff was coming along, and I'd get responses like, "Same old." or "I'll get to work on it on my next day off." etc.He was always online invisible because he'd usually get loads of messages from his contacts Now, April 2009. We were just talking like usual (we talked on messanger) and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We just talked like normal. However, that is the last time I talked to him on messanger. Over the months, I've asked his wife where he is and why he doesn't get on, etc. She just says he's busy, etc. I slow began to suspect him of turning his back on me, yet I didn't want to rush to conclusions just yet. finally, back in October or so, I finally called his house. I know he still has his number, because I searched information. He answered the phone. I knew it was him because I knew from his voice when he answered. and he immediately knew it was me. So, he disguises his voice in low pitch and tells me, "Uh, you got the wrong number," then hangs up on me. The thing is, I knew where he worked. so, I had another family member call him and surprise him, and basically told him I was wanting my things back and left a message at his house number as well. Later that night, his wife messages me asking my address. I asked her if she still had the phone number, and she says yes, They got the messages at work and at home. So in other words, she admitted that it was indeed himAnyway, I've given them time and then called her at work asking about the status of my Fett stuff. She says They've been "busy" and haven't had time. uh.. yeah. The last phone call made was a couple weeks ago, and naturally.. no answer. I think it's apparent he's stealing from me. He KNOWS I've been trying to contact him because I've also had other people pass messages along to him. He has $240 dollars worth of my Fett pieces.

I know some of you probably think I brought this upon myself, and should have gotten my stuff back when I had the chance when I last saw him. Honestly, I agree. I just thought he was my friend and wouldn't do this to me.

can anything else be done? Or has he gotten away with it? Can anyone offer advice?

Just let me know. Thanks all!

wow that really sucks bro. I am not sure if anything else can be done, maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself will chime in but thats really crumby of someone to do to someone. I hope you can somehow get your stuff back.

I feel for you man. I would just write the stuff off doing so will only bring you better things in the future. It pays to be the bigger man. Good luck.

Well, I would take - on the next Day off - a Trip to his House and get the Stuff back.
He cant change voice or have to send you a package if you stay right in Front of him.

At this point there were two choices: Either he give you your Stuff back or might tell you a true Story about the Remain (maybe he Lost it and is ashamed) and you act in Magnanimity and go in peace or you might proberbly wanna kick his *** and cancel the Friendship.

That would be my advice.

That sucks man. Unfortunately I think that unless you can prove he had them and that you didn't give them to him you're out of luck legally. Not to mention the amount of time that's passed. I agree with Mafio, if you can go to his house I'd drop by and say "Hi there. Remember me?" He will be forced to give them to you or admit to what he did. Either way at least you will be able to get some closure.

These things also happend in the RPF forum, and the usual suggestion is to take your case to a small court to get things resolved.

Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone. He lives in Tennessee and I'm in Florida now. it might be a while before I'm up in Tennessee again. I have looked at the possibility of of claims or something. He made a post on another forum a couple years ago about making his Tie suit and helping me with a Fett suit. Plus I have a couple pictures of when I first got the helmet. Could that be proof enough? And how long would a filing a claim take? a month? If I do go back up to Tennessee, it'd only be a visit..

Thanks for the responses everyone

It would take about 20 minutes before the judge. Explain what happened, the judge will order him to return your belongings and if they are damaged, the judge will order payment in an estimated amount. You don't need a lawyer, but you do need to be prepared. If you have no evidence, the case will be dismissed. When he gets notification of the pending case, he will probably return your stuff anyway. If he sold it online, you can take the case to trial. There are fees for small claims court, but you can include legal fees in your claim. If you have no documentation of the arrangement, you will need witnesses that can swear before the judge that they are privy to the arrangement. The more proof you have, the better your odds of getting your stuff or getting compensation for your loss.

Good luck with it.

Some courts allow e-mails as evidence. If you have any (or any real letters) where he acknowledges having your helmet+parts, you can use that in court as proof that he has it. If you don't have this try and get him to admit it in an e-mail. Sorry to hear he's being a ****** bro. :/

What a dishonest friend! I hope you get your belongins soon. I cannot offer any help... I don't know USA laws... but... I think you can post a picture of him, the name of the street where he lives and his e-mail so that everybody would know who is... and may be that would make him feel ashamed and would give your things back.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear that....

Ogait-Nas...if you do that..maybe he can sue you...i wouldn´t do it that way. Get as many proofs as you can, ask a lawyer (if you have any close, or if any of your friends is a lawyer). Maybe you have a free advice service in your community...

And if all this fails... maybe for 50 dollars you can pay someone to brake one leg...(just kidding).

Good luck

I haven't been able to contact him, (aside from him faking his voice over the phone and hanging up on me) yet if I could get proof from a conversation between me and his wife, could that work? If so, then I think I can pursue this further

Is there any chance that you can get his wife to talk you on Yahoo Messenger or something like that? That way you could save the convo, print it off and see if the Police will look into it.
I hope this helps vod.

Dude that sucks! I would be homicidal if someone stole my armor. I agree with everyone else here. Take a visit and try a court. Justice may be blind, but with enough proof and (possibly) a guilt trip on his part, you could get it back.

Well, at this point I think it's safe to say I won't see my belongings again. Neither of them have showed up online or said anything to me. plus, I won't be up in Tennessee for a while. He's a 501st member and I've considered posting his profile page on here to warn everyone about him. He put his email on his 501st page, yet if he can sue me for posting his page up, then maybe it's not a good idea. I don't think it would do much good to contact the garrison either. I've read and saw that a few others on here dealt with similar situations. I don't know what I can tell you guys either other than I know how you feel. Yet anyway, thanks for the input everyone

Just an idea, He is a 501st member, they wouldn't like it if on of there members steel. Can't you try to contact them and let them know what happend. They shouldt atleast warn him. Maby they'll bann him if he doesn't give your gear back.

Best off luck,

Ruben

In 1989, Tennessee revised its criminal code. The following year the statute of limitations was revised to conform to the format of the revised criminal code. The statute requires prosecution for a felony to begin within: fifteen years for a Class A felony; eight years for a Class B felony; four years for a Class C or Class D felony; and two years for a Class E felony. See T.C.A. § 40-2-101. The state must commence prosecution for a misdemeanor within twelve months after the offense has been committed. See T.C.A. § 40-2-102.

Theft by false pretext includes any crime of theft where a person uses false pretext to obtain property belonging to someone else.

Theft of property or services is:

(1) A Class A misdemeanor if the value of the property or services obtained is five hundred dollars ($500) or less;

(2) A Class E felony if the value of the property or services obtained is more than five hundred dollars ($500) but less than one thousand dollars ($1,000);

(3) A Class D felony if the value of the property or services obtained is one thousand dollars ($1,000) or more but less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000);

(4) A Class C felony if the value of the property or services obtained is ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or more but less than sixty thousand dollars ($60,000); and

(5) A Class B felony if the value of the property or services obtained is sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) or more.

I am not a lawyer but i hope this helps.

OUT HIM! I would post his BS everywhere every chance I got. If he can't afford to send your stuff then he can't afford to sue you. Contact everyone all the time. Call his work and let them know that he has your stuff. Beilieve me, when (and if) he would have the balls to attempt to make a harrassment report, the truth would come out over his BS dealings and nothing would happen to you. Take my word for it. MAKE A SERIOUS NUISSANCE OF YOURSELF! He will come around man. Call his house every hour being polite and ask for your stuff. Send him registered letters asking for it. Hound him relentlessly in a professional manner and anooy the bejesus out of him. It will work.
