Seller Feedback

For years members have been asking for a way to give selllers here feedback and for years we have resisted for reasons that I am sure don't need to be mentioned.

However, as times get financially tougher and our community continues to grow, we see more and more scammers slinking into our midst.

With that in mind, we have implemented a feedback ratings system (similar to eBay) called iTrader, which allows you to rate your interaction with a seller.

How does the system work?

First, you can see an overview of the system by clicking iTrader in the Community dropdown menu from our navbar or you can simply click the following link:

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/itrader_main.php

This will allow you to see ratings, search for members and get an overview of those who have had positive transactions and those who have not.

Beyond that, when you view a thread in the Cargo Hold you will now see a "Feedback" score beside each member's post which is the total accumulation of feedback points a member has gained. Obviously, everyone is currently at 0. Negative feedback results in a -1. Positive results in a +1 to your feedback score. As with eBay, while a single member can rate a seller multiple times, it will only count as 1 positive or negative point (meaning a seller can't have a friend up their score multiple points for them).

At the bottom of each FIRST post in a thread within the Cargo Hold is a Rate Seller button which allows you to rate your transaction with that seller.

You can also see Feedback information and submit Feedback from a member's profile page by clicking the Feedback Score tab.

Some general guidelines for ratings.

Sales and Trades are PRIVATE transactions and while the Staff may step in to stop an obvious scammer, it is not our job to mediate every sales dispute. Likewise, if you are a seller and you earn a negative review, please do not come crying to us to remove it. That defeats the point of the ratings system. It is up to YOU to work with the buyer to ensure they are satisfied with the transaction.

With that being said, if we find that a buyer is taking advantage of the ratings system, or trying to use the ratings system to extort product from a seller, you may be banned from the site (and keep in mind that if you are banned from the Dented Helmet, you will also be banned from all of Movie Prop Sites properties, including therpf.com.

Please do NOT go into the details of a transaction in the "Short Comment" field of the Feedback form. Something like "Good shipper." or "Great transaction. Would buy from again." will be fine.

Please note the "Additional Comments" field of the Feedback form can only be seen by you, the seller and the staff. It is NOT visible to the public.

We hope this addition is useful and encourage you to rate all your transactions here on the Dented Helmet as it will help other members decide who to deal with and who to avoid. It will also help the staff decide if particular members (those with overwhelmingly poor feedback) might need to look for another site on which to sell.

While I didn't made any transaction on TDH, I welcome this rating system which will be a great asset especially for the new-comers who want to know in which seller/buyer they can trust. I hope this will eliminate those threads where some of us (because of the gathered frustrations over the times or in lack of patience) are rushing to negatively label some of the traders while they don't deserve it.

I think this is an excellent move Art. Not only will it reassure buyers that they are buying from reliable people but it also will be nice for sellers to get recognition for their hard work.

Asok, RKD and Stormrider spring to mind for best service. But I bought from them through PM. Need to get the hang of this. :)

You can still give them feedback even if there isn't a thread associated with the sale. Listing a thread is optional.

I agree. Members have been asking for this feature for years and we have always been a bit reluctant to implement it for a couple of reasons, but the primary one being that we didn't know of a solution that integrated into the site as well as this.

I hope that the addition of this software does two things: 1) gives potential buyers more confidence in the person they are buying from and 2) encourages sellers to provide top notch customer service.

This seems like a great system. Now let's hope it will work.

I hope it works too! As with anything, the system can be misused like 1) seller's telling members they won't sell to them again if they get bad feedback or 2) members threatening to give bad feedback if a seller doesn't do what they want. If we see that kind of thing begin to happen, we will have to deal with those who are misusing the system, but given the overall tight-knit nature of this community, I don't think we will see that much.

I don't want to get on a soap box here, but in my time here and at the RPF I have come to see that the vast majority of a good transaction comes down to managing expectations, which inevitably becomes a manner of communicating clearly. Almost every transaction that ends unpleasantly is because at least one party didn't do what they said they were going to do (like missing a ship date) or one party had an expectation that was never clearly defined by the other party (like a buyer thinking they could get a refund on a deposit because they arbitrarily decided to back out of a deal). In knowing that the feedback system now exists, I hope it encourages buyers and sellers to talk more and to communicate clearly with one another, managing expectations and making for happier transactions. Ultimately this will mean happier buyers and happy buyers mean they will tell their friends who will then also want to buy, which ultimately means more sales for the sellers.

That's great, however nearly all of my commissions are done via pm with no "for sale" thread at all.
I was just trying to understand how that would work.

Your customers can still leave you feeback by clicking on your profile and going to the feedback tab. I would encourage those of you who do provide services to encourage your customers to leave you feedback so that future potential customers will feel more confident in you and will be more likely to want to work with you based on recommendations from previous customers.

We are working on a "Nobody likes Nathan" button. ;)

No, seriously, because the system is so simple of "positive, neutral or negative" any sale can be rated.
Lmao that's cause we love him right
This Is great art glad this is happening it should prove to b another invaluable tool here

This is a great idea, I think it will alleviate hopefully questions about buyer threads ...where is that "Nobody Likes nathan button"? I jest...I jest...

I've been trying to leave some feedback for another member and the page remains white and stops loading, I have tried different browsers and clearing my cache- no results :(

I've been having that same problem. I thought it was Safari related. I really want to leave positive feedback for Darkside. He was great to buy from. He was able to leave positive feedback on me as a buyer, but it won't let me submit feedback on him. I'm super bummed and hope it get's corrected. I've been trying to submit for 3 weeks now.
