TDH is working on conjunction with the Mandalorian Mercs to have a presence at New York's Comic Con which will be held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City on Feb 6 - 8, 2009.

You can learn more about the event by clicking here.

If you are going to be attending and are interested in helping out with this event, please post here so we can get a count of how many TDH members plan to be there!

Thanks!

We are trying very hard to make this happen. NYCC has NO fan table policies, so it's something I'm working very closely with them on. Depending on how many people we can get to show will determine weather or not this will happen.

Anyone from TDH want to get a dinner organized? If you all wanna do a combined dinner, that would be great!

Consider also that the 501st/Rebel Legion will be doing similar... since a lot of people are members multiple places, we probably don't want too much division. I know it's not possible to please EVERYONE, but it never hurts to try ;)

Both. We're doing a combined table...splitting it half and half.

This makes it easier for you guys here on TDH, because basically we (Mercs) had to make an agreement with NYCC to make this table possible. We've got a table in the lobby with 2 chairs to man the thing. The thought behind doing this combined table is that both our groups seem to have a decent portion of people who go to NYCC, but not enough to man separate tables entirely. I've set this up so that it doesn't cost TDH anything other than the people and gear for their part of the table, personally it's my belief that no con should be charging anything...be it money or services to a fan group for a table.

Unfortunately NYCC doesn't feel the same at this point in time, but the agreement Mercs made with them falls ONLY on Mercs and not TDH...and it's not anything more than plugging them on our site and in our future podcasts for X amount of time. This is an opportunity for both groups to have a presence in a decent sized convention where we have never had it before. Since many of us at Mercs started and continue to visit and support TDH...it seemed like the prudent idea to be able to combine forces for this.

Thanks, and I'm sure this won't be the last time this will happen either. I think everyone from TDH who has spent any amount of time talking to me knows that I am a huge proponent of groups coming together for the love of Star Wars and costuming...not to try to out-stage, back-bite, or fight with eachother. Maybe in the past there were reasons why something like this wouldn't have happened...but I don't see the need for those reasons to exist any longer. Especially when at least 75% of the events all groups do is related to charity. There's no argument that can put a smile on a child's face, or save a life through monies raised at events.

Lol, don't get my on my soapbox...this should be something for one of them Jedi robe wearing guys to preach on, not someone in Mando armor. ;P

Cool, I'll be there with the 501st, I have a bunch of armor costumes but haven't finished a Mandalorian yet (sorry). Looking forward to meeting some of you, I'll definately search you out.

We should have a few Fetts and maybe even a custom Mando from my Garrison...

I have a few questions. This comic con we speak of. My wife and I would like to attend. Are there any local members in the area who have good reliable information about accomadations?
Any one who may have been there before. Is it to late to get an inexpensive decent hotel room.
We will be traveling from Ohio and have never been to NY before.

I guess thats my two cents.

I've stayed at the Best Western Convention Center Hotel the last two years. It is a half a block from the Jacob Javits Center so it was easy to walk down each day with my armor tubs. I booked late last year and ended up paying like $250 a night or something crazy, but this year I already booked and it was like $175 or so a night. Believe me, hotels aren't cheap no matter where you go, but this one is great, close and safe. It has everything you need too.

The area is fine, but if you don't know NYC I wouldn't stray too far away alone. The hotel is a short walk to Times Square and Empire State Building, but if you go left instead of right you end up in a shady area. If you book here I'll hook up with you and help you get around. Each year we did a 501st / RL dinner on Saturday and then me and the woman did some shopping or sightseeing the other nights. We walked everywhere and it was no problem. :cheers

With parking you have to go to a lot, the BW Hotel has a deal with one a block or so away and it was like maybe $50 a day. Yeah, it's an expensive weekend, but well worth it IMHO. :)

Also, last year there were like four other couples from the 501st and my Garrison at this hotel...

If you go to Hotels.com and look up New York city, Milford Plaza is around a mile away from the convention center and is $143 a night which is cheaper than anything NYCC has a deal with it looks like. It's also pretty close to the center of the city if you want to see some sights.

I'm not from NYC, and I won't be able to be at NYCC...but I'm looking for the best rooms for my people and I'll forward anything I find to this thread also.

Definately look around, just remember distance plays a part if you are draggin' tubs of armor. Also, anyone driving in you will have to park in a lot and pay about $50 a day even for a one day visit. Just be prepared, LOL. And don't hesitate, book immediately, rates go up every day now with this approaching and plan on dropping between $150 - 200 min a night with taxes and stuff...:wacko
