Issue with user names

Dark Jedi

Active Hunter
I noticed we now have a new member on the forums going by the user name DarkJedi while I have been going by Dark Jedi for about four years now. Is there some way we can prevent this in the future? I already contacted DarkJedi to see if he will vollentarily change his user name.

Personally I can't see how you can stop people from using a particular User Name on any given website, and is more likely something you are simply going to have to learn to live with. Just look at the number of people with digits after otherwise identical names. A fact of cyber-life my friend.

Unfortunately, there is no way to keep someone from using a name that is similar to an existing name. These issues can only be handled on a case by case basis as you are handling it now. The software simply isn't intuitive enough to realize that DarkJedi and Dark Jedi are essentially the same name. :(

I realise that names do get used by other people on other forums and their are alot of names that are the same except they have a number (For example, ObiWayne was already taken on Xbox Live, so I became ObiWayne1500)

Now if the gentlmen went with Dark Jedi and some random number it is pretty clear to see that his name is diffrent than mine. But if it is just a space things are going to get confusing really fast. Can we have the software not reconise spaces?

I added the UK to the end of mine (something that UK bands have done when in the US), some one had the name less the UK bit, but I use it other places (now all changed to UK).

It happens to a lot of people lately. there is a new Irish Fett too different from the one I know in Tallahassee , lol And a Bubba Fett, and I'm pretty close to Wolfi I just have an E. I'm Wolfie on pretty much every forum I'm on but if it bothered Wolfi I suppose I could add 13 or something to the end of mine, lol

I would say just make sure you have a very different sig file and user name so people can tell you apart. Its easy for mine cause I'm the girl Wolfie. I just make sure I keep my name in my sigfile.

Well, in the interests of maintaining peace and harmony here, I'll change my SN. Trouble is, I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Maybe I missed something when I was looking around under 'My Helmet'. Would someone give me a hand here?:confused

Click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page, let the admins know your desired user name, and one of the admins will look into changing it.

Hey.. People sometimes get me mixed up with "Steve the Swede" for some reason... and the only thing similar in our forum names is "Swede" ..

At one point in time it happened so often that i acutally had to put a statement in my signature that i was "NOT STEVE THE SWEDE".

Eventhoug it was a compliment to me to be thought as Steve The Swede i'm pretty sure it was offensive to him.. ;)

Wolfie...you mean there is a clone of me out there:eek:!!!! "There can be only one".

But seriously at leats there are not a thousand different boba fett and a # out there. Instead of learning names we'll then have to learn numbers.:wacko

I totally see where he's coming from though.... and I'm glad this already worked out.

This could be used in a deceptive form however and I think that's more of an issue.

What's to stop anyone from registering as TheDent and acting like the board owner...to someone who doesn't know any better

or a username of a respected prop maker on here and trying to scam people.

Beyond it just being confusing...i think there is harm. But like The Dent said, if it's a software issue I guess people should just try being fair working it out with new members and using caution when buying from people.

That's what I think. lol

heyy mann...totally understand what y'all feel...hmmm...maybe if we didnt like another one of us 'adopting' our U.names...maybe we could suggest a better name for them?like translating it to Mando'a...like mine...hee hee XD

i mean if the guy's really a hard core SW fan...and he's aliit...then i guess he'd find it...i dunno...'cool'?...well...its just a suggestion...but honestly settling it on a case by case basis is still better in the long run...

anyways...kinda a new guy here...so if anyone could show a greenhorn the reins to getting his own beskar'gam up from scratch...this evaar'la vod would be really appreciative...

Vor'e vod!
