A home of our own - dedicated server for TDH

As we continue to grow our needs from our hosting service grow as well. We are currently paying over $75 a month for a virtual private server service through our current host yet we are still not seeing the responsiveness from the board that we would like to see. As we continue to grow the sluggishness we now see will only increase. With that in mind we have decided to leave our current hosting provider and upgrade to a new provider where we will have our own dedicated server. This should increase the responsiveness of the board and give us a considerable amount of breathing room for the foreseeable future.

Stormtrooperguy has graciously offered his talents to help us get the new server up and running as well as maintain it for now. Our goal is to be moved over by mid-August. This may mean there will be some downtime for the board. We will do our best to minimize disruption.

We are very excited about this move and hope it will allow us to expand and grow in new avenues.

For those that may be nervous about this random guy juggling around the lifeblood of TDH... Fear Not!

I've been a full time Linux sysadmin for over 10 years. The 501st Legion Forum was initially set up by 3 people, me being one of them, and it ran on my personal server for over a year when it first launched.

I've also hosted and operated the 501neg.com site for a few years now.

Through all of that, I've migrated from host to host many, many times, and am very confident that the outages will be minimal, and nothing will be lost in the process.

And thus Linus Fett was born

UPDATE: Thanks to stormtrooperguy our new server is up and running. We only have a few things left to test and tweak before the final move. We anticipate making the final move on the weekend of the 15-17. Because we are making a DNS change the board may be inaccessible to some of you for several hours to several days. But hopefully, by the 18th it will be fully accessible to everyone.
