Feedback system

Hey guys, Fractal here.

I was wondering if we could do something like what they do on the Mercs site, have a feedback rating, just as an assist to caveat emptor. I have seen a disproportional amount of deals going sour, and some of these might be avoided if we had something like this. my .02. :D Please tell me if I am out of line or in the wrong place, but please think about it. :D

Man, this is too bad. I have made a bunch of transactions both buying and selling on here. I have had great luck with both. Most people on here are some of the friendliest folks on all of the different forums. Almost family like. I have seen numerous people dig deep and donate cash to members in need, to the TDH forum and even offer to replace or fix props from deals gone sour that were not even their own. It is too bad that there has been so many flakey sellers lately. It really detracts from the family feel of this awesome site. I would like to see some sort of feedback system as well. To all of the honest sellers and buyers I have dealt with, thank you!! You make this place special.

Jason

/\ Extremely correct, most members are great, but some come here just to defraud awesome members, and some just plain old don't come through, this is a less intensive punishment than permanent banning, and for those "real" members, it adds a kind of competitive edge to their transactions. :D

I don't think it is something that will happen, it has been mentioned before. It implies some kind of protection or guarantee from the site. All transactions are entered into by private parties and TDH can not know if the deal will go bad.

I try to work to my own set of rules when buying.

If the deal looks too good, it probably is.
In these cases be aware that what ever you pay is a gamble.

If the member has like 5 posts they could disappear as soon as they have the payment.
As above, only pay it if you are willing to loose it. Not that older members are not capable of a rip off, but it is less likely.

Buy from members and/or vendors with a good reputation.
The safest way to go. For example, if looking for armour and you are still unsure after researching the posts start a thread asking for advice, you will get advice on product and vendors.

I disagree with this statement. It doesn't imply protection, however it does give a buyer the opportunity to form an educated decision based on the outcomes of other people's transactions with the seller as well as their product. You can't imply protection or guarantee without saying it in words, however giving members the ability to make informed decisions based on the experiences of other members can help stem potential problems from bad sellers while helping the good sellers get their product out.

I know on some boards this system has been abused, I can say from experience that the year we've been using this system...it's never been abused. We have many Mercs-exclusive sellers who love it, and several sellers who work both TDH and Mercs who have benefited on TDH from the feedback system on the Mercs site.

Anyhow, thought I would toss this out there. I'm not in any way saying that adding a feedback system is a solution to the problem, but the potentially good outcome may be something worth looking into.

I sold over 100 mannequins on here and would gladly welcome a feedback rating. Some people were overly happy and some needed other parts here and there but I would love to know the truth if everyone was truly as happy as they say they were...

The problem with most gone bad transactions are from a member wanting to sell items they have bought and not a vendor with a reputation to uphold.

I would much rater see a closer community helping one another than feedback, we have ebay for that? I have seen dodgy looking sales and messaged interested members with my concerns, but in the end it is down to the individual I guess.

If members wanted a feedback system so much why not start a thread like FP Feedback -and post: What a great transaction, again, Thanks Chris, but we know this, it is the member who bought a bunch of stuff 8 months ago and has now given up on the costume. They come on to sell it, it goes bad and they cause these issues, like Greengriffin not long ago.

I also know we had a run go bad recently, but the guy had an ok rep, I don't see how feedback can help in any of these cases.

The board staff has said many, many times that it doesn't want to get involved with transactions in any way.

Cargo Hold Rules said:
The administrative staff will not assume responsibility for transactions conducted on the board, and therefore will not act the role of mediator, negotiator, arbitrator or enforcer of any sale. These are private transactions, and the purpose of allowing such sales on The Dented Helmet is ONLY to help members sell and buy items from one another. However, if The Cargo Hold is used as part of a deceptive or fraudulent transaction, swift and decisive action will be taken. Banning of involved parties is one potential outcome.

The other reason this has been shot down many times is that this is an "underground" type hobby... Vendors might not want to have 500 good reviews on the quality of the helmets they sell, since that would mean they sold 500 helmets.

To me, this is like asking for a feedback system for electronics bought off the back of the truck in a dark alley...

Although I am a "proponent" of this idea and have expressed it fairly recently on more than one thread ... I have to agree that this couldn't be more true.

Great analogy

Thats a great point!

One thing we have found by using is that not everyone leaves feedback...in fact it's at best 40% of buyers that actually do leave feedback on a seller. I'll use Gypsyboy as an example, because he is both here on TDH and on Mercs. He's sold many many helmets to Mercs members, but only has 3 feedback comments. So you can't really gauge the amount of production through a feedback system, it's unrealistic to think it would provide any sort of accurate production/sales count.

I completely get where your coming from stormtrooperguy, not trying to discredit what your saying by any means. Just letting you know how it's working for us.

I was just thinking like a ranking system, like basic propbuilder, to PROP GOD, anonymous feedback, without the admins having to get involved, each positive vote counts as a point and each negative counts as well, a negative. :p

I understand where everybody is coming from, and I REALLY don't want to over-burden the mods (who are awesome P.S. by the way. :p)

Do ya guys know what I'm saying???

I get what you're saying - as long as there is some sort of grand daddy thing put in there for those who have been upstanding in the community. I for one would hate to have a 0 rating to start this new system after all these years. That would be less than fair - at best

:lol:lol: I'm not sure if we can rely on your reputation entirely. :p

Yeah, there should be something like that, maybe having previous customers add their take might work out. :D Given your volume of sales though, should be enough of an indicator of your pure awesomeness. :D
